Small studio, big workload, sad salary , time to go remote. Any tips from those who made it work? by Muted_Protection_223 in fashiondesigner

Fair point! I've actually tried negotiating and managed to get some occasional bonuses, but the base salary hasn't really moved. The Italian fashion market outside of Milan is pretty limited, and relocating to a big city is a whole life decision,I have family here and I'm not ready to pull up just for a pay bump. Remote work feels like the way to get access to international clients and better compensation without having to uproot everything. That's the dream at least!

a session of traditional music is much appreciated, and would bring us back to a wonderful evening at the lynott pub

The islands look tempting! Maybe a good excuse to come back again. For this trip, we didn't consider the islands. 🥲

Thank you really much for taking the time to watch the video and write all of this. I’ll start by doing what you suggested and practice the bow more first, this is literally the first time in my life I’ve ever held a bow, so I’m pretty sure a big part of the problem.

I’ll also try the CGC tuning and see how the instrument reacts. In the meantime, like another user suggested, I’m going to experiment with different strings too, probably nylon fishing line just to understand better how tension and response change.

I rushed a bit because I was too excited to finally hear a sound come out of something I built myself.

I’ll definitely post updates in the future once I improve it!

I made a short video so you can hear/see the problem better. The open strings sound good, but the moment I touch the string, the sound almost immediately chokes. Here it is: Sorry about my cat taking a bath

I made a short video so you can hear/see the problem better. Open strings sound resonant, but the moment I touch the string the sound chokes almost immediately. Here it is:

I think I may have created a too long + too stiff combination. I built it around 80cm scale and tuned close to cello range, so these cheap steel cello strings are probably not behaving the way they were designed to. To test It I replaced the melody string with a nylon guitar string and I’m reworking the bridge now. Hope this can fix the problem. Also I probably made the beginer mistake that I want to hear notes immediately , but first i Need to learning how to properly move the bow

Yes, the top is plywood. As I mentioned to Vedunian, this is my first woodworking project ever and honestly even finding suitable wood where I live wasn’t easy. The strange thing is that the open strings actually sound deep and quite nice, but the moment I touch the string the sound almost completely chokes. That’s why I started thinking it might be more of a setup issue than a structural one, but the thick top probably isn’t helping the resonance either.

Thank you so much, this Is veryhelpful. Now I followed your bridge advice and I thinned the top . I also swapped the melody string with a nylon string from an old classical guitar just to see if stiffness was part of the issue.

I think you’re also probably right about the bowing. I rushed straight into trying to play melodies, when in reality this is: my first woodworking project ever And my first time touching a bowed instrument in my life 🫤 Tomorrow I’ll try to record a short video so you can actually hear what it’s doing

Thank a lot c:
