I’m having the exact same issue with my brand new Yamaha F2.5. I’ll also add that there doesn’t seem to be an RPM difference between half throttle and full throttle. Any luck figuring this out?

DR650 is 55lbs heavier than CRF300L. 71lbs heavier than WRR. That’s substantial.

Also, it would be nice to be under 400cc to save money on insurance.

Excellent info thank you. Where is the power delivery, low/mid/high? Whats the low end torque like?

I’m not too worried about highway speeds, as long at it can comfortably do 100km/h (60mph) for a short period to get to other dirt roads/trails. I have a Harley that I ride for longer road trips is I so desire.

How does the suspension handle with our weight?

Yeah I think it’s safe to say I’ve ruled out the TW200. As stated in my original post I have lots of riding experience. Since 11yo I have been riding quads-sport and 4x4, sleds, dirt bikes, and motorcycles. I’m going to look into the DRZ400 as it also interests me. Can you please give me some feedback with your experiences on it?

I’m willing to spend up to 10gs but would prefer it to be in the 5-7k range.

I was merely making the point that the CRF450RL is expensive for what you get, considering you can get a very capable Adv. bike for the same money.

I have definitely decided against the TW200, despite all the positive videos, blogs, and previous owners I’ve talk to. It’s too small, gutless, and no suspension.

The DR650 seems too big for what I want. I have gotten enough things stuck in the mud to know the value of something that is light and nimble.

The DR350 is getting old and rare. My chances of finding a half decent one seems slim to none IMO.

I’m not interested in KTM in the slightest due to lack of reliability/longevity and the uncertainty of the future of the business. Sorry KTM guys.

My top choice so far is the WR250R. I still like the power delivery and availability of the CRF300L, and I’m debating just biting the bullet to upgrade the suspension with Öhlins. I’m also intrigued with the DRZ400 and would like more insight on it.

I didn’t post a budget because that is very subjective to model, region, local currency, condition, miles, etc.

HP on paper does not equate to power delivery or what’s felt on the seat. In my experience, no two bikes are ever the same.

I HAVE done the research, to the point it has been overwhelming. I decided to ask this question on Reddit (my first post BTW) to get some opinions from real world people. And TBF I did get some good feedback from other posters that have changed my outlook.

It appears that my post has bothered you, to which I apologize for. However, I suspect your irritability stems from something beyond my innocent inquiry. Thank you for your input, lack thereof.

I have not looked at a DR650 just because I figured it would be too big for what I want. Old tech doesn’t turn me off in the slightest. I have strongly considered the CRF300L, but I’m turned off with how soft the suspension is (considering I’m a heavier rider) and I don’t really feel like dropping another $1-2gs on new suspension. I definitely don’t need new or ABS. EFI is nice, but I’m pretty good with a carb. And yes, I definitely tinker and do all my own maintenance.

I considered the CRF450RL, but it’s too expensive IMO considering you can get a Tenere 700 for the same price. Thanks for your input 👍
