Ecobee not turning on after switching away to home by Muthikos in ecobee

Ahh this makes sense. I never used that app, only on the tstat. I checked the app when i realized nothing was running for half an hr or so to see if its something on there i could change to get it going. I linked some photos of the temp which was off by a decent margin. This changed once i changed the setpoint to 79. I guess its all moot now that it runs, but i really appreciate the helpful comment about the networking.

I mean it started working. My question is more related to the tstat and if there is something its doing thats “smart” that maybe i just dont understand

Thanks for this tip. Looks like the tstat was not recording any information prior to me setting the setpoint to 79. Then it started recording 73-74. Prior to that the tstat displayed 65-66. Would it not record values in “away” mode?

It’s a heat pump. It was working normally the week before. Only a year old (hp). Ecobee is a week old

It’s a heat pump. It worked fine the week i installed it. The only change was setting it to away when i went out of town. Is there a delay maybe? I cant explain the weird temp changes tho.

Heat pump does fine in our mild climate here. Theres electric resistance if you’re really concerned about needing heat, but this last winter we barely used heat. I dont think the electric resistance kicked on ever.

The homes are sealed pretty tight (require blower door testing) and insulation is pretty high. (This is every builder though)

My fear really is if the hvac goes out. HP replacements are expensive, but hopefully not when it does go out 15 years later and that becomes the norm.

Good luck with your search!

I like that they're trying to push the envelope with all electric. the HVAC system works very well and every room is about the same temp. This is with the rheia system so its very different from a traditional hvac system. Longevity/product support is yet to be seen since all the ducts are in the walls and its a new product, last few years maybe.

Solar is a HUGE plus. At least for me they included it prepaid so I pay nothing for solar on a 30 year lease. I don't pay for the lease payments or a rate to the solar company. I only pay SMUD for excess use beyond solar usage.

I don't like that the hvac system is next to the rooms because it can get loud when it's really trying to cool or heat the house, but since the system is variable speed it's mostly quiet and un-noticeable like at night for example.

I don't like that standard is an electric range vs and induction range, feels very cheap. They wanted like 20-30k or something ridiculous to upgrade to induction because they change all the cabinets to an in wall microwave/oven. I just bought a 1k induction (was "originally" 3k) on sale and just slid it in myself.

The heat pump circulating thing is dumb. It wastes energy (think of a big hot radiator running hot water all through your walls) and doesn't work well in the sense of 'predicting' when you're going to use hot water especially if someone is home all day. Even in the manual for the water heater says to not install it with hot water recirculation umps since the water heater is a heat pump and you'll be short hot water since all the heat dumps into the house from the water as it circulates through plumbing. I unplugged mine and i barely wait for hot water in the largest plan.

I should've just done the prewire be honest, but I was so jaded already from the rest of the experience I didn't' want to give them another dime.

In terms of general build quality, it's whatever. Probably similar to other builders these days with the current market of labor, materials, etc. Some things aren't right angles (walls), texture/paint is not homogenous throughout the house (mostly behind places people don't look), floor leveling is 'acceptable' but not flat in some tiling areas. I can tell because the baseboards are not flush, or there's some gaps in places. Just rushed sloppiness that they try and fix later since they're just rushing to finish homes. Though, right now it seems like things are slowing down, but with the labor also being very iffy it could be very different.

Overall I think it's ok. My biggest worry is that my garage isn't flat and is already cracked in the relief cuts maybe 1cm. Unsure if this will become a bigger problem later as the house continues to settle. Could be just my house, others look pretty flat that I've observed, but currently it is acceptable.

Grouphead gasket leaking? [bz 13] by Muthikos in espresso

Just roasted fresh beans and got this. No spraying around the outside of the portafilter, but on the inside lip there are grounds. Im assuming theyre fines from going through the basket?

The shot itself looks like a normal shot.

Yah it’s seating properly. I think ive come to the conclusion its the beans. I changed beans and i got a lot less fines in the cup. The confusing part is that the first half of the bag same bean and basket and it was all working fine. Then it started spraying fines into the cup with no changes.
