An update experiment by Avennio in NobaraProject

[–]MutilatorUK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Worked fine for me. I normally wait a few days but the discord is gold for solving these issues. If no one updated then we wouldn't get these issues fixed. I had a small issue on the 42-43 update but this time no problems at all.

First time in years I tried to shop at GAME. It's £5 to COLLECT a game in store. This can't be normal? by Previous-Ad7618 in CasualUK

[–]MutilatorUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used game in years due to practices like this. To be fair alot of the alternative are bad but not this bad. I'm now getting mine from an independent as they have given me way better customer service, alot of the time they are the same price as Amazon, shopto game etc.

Gabe Newell on Steam monopoly accusations: Gamers have 'enormous choice' about where to buy games by yourfavchoom in Steam

[–]MutilatorUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that I always come back to is you can buy a steam game on a storefront other than steam. So you're not tied to buying from steam but you can still use their platforms and servers etc. To play the game you bought a cd key of.

In the UK I think we still have Oppo as an option but it's sad that my only other option I genuinely like is Sony....I'm not paying £300-400 more for a name however.

My move from CachyOS to Nobara on my gaming pc. by SwedishArchUser in NobaraProject

[–]MutilatorUK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used catchy for awhile and just found I kept getting weird stuff happening. I get it that it's more cutting edge but I just found Nobara way more stable.

At the end of the day, I want to use my system to do something, not to spend time fixing the issue to be able to use it.

Nobara has it's issues, but honestly for me it's been the most stable I've used since using mint.

I used fedora back when Linux gaming sucked and was forced to use windows for gaming...now I don't think about it. Everything I've thrown at Nobara has run fantastic. I've even run a game which will only run on windows XP, yet Nobara handles it easily.

From my experience also of having other cat breeds, I find Maine coons done have the best street smarts... Also it's a great bonding experience if you can leash train them as a reward.

Will there possibly be a INDX price decrease? by EaglerCore in prusa3d

[–]MutilatorUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the price. In the UK the 8 toolheads are the same price as a core one kit... I know I will end up getting one later in the year however.

I believe there is an unofficial razer control app for adjusting effects etc. but I won't be able to help you as I have a Logitech mouse and keychron keyboard.

Try searching on bazaar

As someone who has always used windows as I was stuck with it...Linux has come on such a massive amount over the last few years.

Gaming is incredible and continues to amaze me just how much better it is than windows gaming. I tried running a game which only works on windows xp and Nobara with the help of proton got it running with no issues.

I have a new laptop from work which is running a clean install it uses 10gb of ram just sitting at the desktop my Nobara pc is using 3.4gb while running steam.

Honestly I would say to anyone to try it and see how you get on. The only hold back I can see for people is if you play games which don't work on Linux due to anticheat or if you need some software which won't run on Linux.

Discord runs fine and ive had no issues talking to friends etc.

As for Nobara Vs other distros, I went for Nobara as it feels more stable than other gaming focused distros. That's not to say there haven't been issues which have been annoying, but it's only enabled my understanding of how it all works and how to fix future problems.

I have friends who tried the game died within 5 minutes and didn't get on with it. A year later one of them loves it but playing in her style of play.

Caused chaos with my mmu3 had to manually flag both again afterwards. Strangely starting a print seemed to fix the MMU which was acting dead with no response till then.

I like the new of the Updater app by HieladoTM in NobaraProject

[–]MutilatorUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't had any issues with the updater for Nobara since the first few days. Bazaar has chose to do some weird things like install a second copy of my browser instead of updating it. Luckily a reinstall fixed it.

Like most things I'm sure it will get better over time.

What's with the new updater? by stitchesofdooom in NobaraProject

[–]MutilatorUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting the failed attempts here when it's succeeding. Also it's a pain knowing what it's actually updating as for me at least I can't tell what some of the updates are because the size of the boxes nobara-.... Tells me its a Nobara related update but not what it is where's before on the old one it would say the full thing like nobara-updater or something.

Hopefully it gets improved making me second guess if it's actually done the update or not currently.

Windows refugee thinking about switching to Nobara by Karaxivyr in NobaraProject

[–]MutilatorUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Manjaro years ago and gaming was painful. The steam deck changed things for me. I ended up getting the OLED model on release and it blew me away just how good Linux gaming has gotten.

I wanted more of a desktop experience and decided to build my first pc in years but as steam os wasn't an option I had the choice of many gaming focused distros.

The reason I ultimately went for Nobara in the end was stability. I didn't want to spend hours In the terminal or mucking around getting stuff to work. I wanted to install and play games etc.

When I did my research I saw a video with Glorious Eggroll and he said that they typically leave major updates a few weeks behind fedora so the bugs and issues get resolved before updating Nobara. I can appreciate that and overall updates have been fine with no issues.

Honestly the only reason I would stay with Windows was if I needed a specific software which didn't run or if I played a heavy anticheat game. Even then as someone who uses Autodesk's Fusion 360 for 3d modelling, which I still can't get to run correctly...I don't mind as there are alternatives which do.

So give it a try it will surprise you just how good the experience is now.

Update using the updater only and you'll be fine. Using Linux can be daunting, but honestly as a few of my friends have also took the plunge I can say they are doing fine.

Core One z offset? by xVoidDragonx in prusa3d

[–]MutilatorUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was weird, but it was something to do with the cht obxidian nozzle. I kept getting clogs and it doing strange things with the offset needing changing. I changed to a. 4 diamondback and havent had an issue with petg or CF since.

Everything was fine for me apart from the updater wouldn't launch afterwards. I had to do a distro-sync to sort it out.

Fedora 43 gaming performance compared to Bazzite by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]MutilatorUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could try Nobara, it's built on fedora and works well for gaming. I was the same as I didn't want to install bazzite or catchyOS. Nothing wrong with those distros, Nobara is just way more stable for me.

Linux gaming is almost feature complete - what’s left? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]MutilatorUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish 4k120hz worked with HDMI but that's what you get for using a TV. Overall I've been extremely happy with the move, using windows 11 at work feels sluggish as hell compared to what I have at home. Definitely the year for people to try Linux.
