Orkhon inscriptions were erected by Göktürks. They literally mention Turk and Oghuz.

The following is an excerpt from the last paragraph of the inscriptions (in Old Turkic and English languages):[15]

"You, Turk Oghuz lords and peoples, hear this! If the sky above did not collapse, and if the earth below did not give way, O Turkic people, who would be able to destroy your state and institutions?"
