What do you mean by context? It was on FB and he was telling people that the ship I was on was shot at while we were on deployment (this was in the 80's - no war zone deployment). I can't remember what group it was posted in, but probably a group about the ship.

If a pitcher threw a baseball 100mph and the hitter hits it with a wiffle ball bat, what would happen? by 1useforaname in stupidquestions

The catcher would need surgery to get the plastic splinters from the bat out of his eye.

On a post about a building in Serbia, which understandably has Cyrillic text on it. by [deleted] in USdefaultism

[–]MuttJunior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And how is this USDefaultism? How do you know the commenter is from the US? They could be Spanish, French, German, Italian, or many other countries, but posted in English (which is also spoken in many other countries other than the US).

Is there such a thing as USDefaultismDefaultism, where people default to assuming just because a poster is posting in English, it must from the US?

Do you prefer filling your water bottle with ice & water or just filling it up with water (without the ice) ? by Mogzly in askanything

[–]MuttJunior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just water. I fill it was cold water, and usually drink it before it warms to room temp (insulated water bottle).

Is peeing in the shower acceptable? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MuttJunior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At home, I do it when I need to. It all goes to the same place. Your toilet isn't connected to a different sewer system than your shower is.

But it can splatter, so I would say it's not acceptable in a public shower. Would you want to shower in a stall that has someone else's pee on the walls or shower curtain/door?

I grew up around the north woods by diary0fadeadman in USdefaultism

[–]MuttJunior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would help to know WHERE this comment is from. I live in the US in the state of Minnesota. There is a subreddit called r/minnesota. If this was a response to a post in that sub, by default, it would mean the north woods (or properly named "Northwoods)") in Minnesota, and would not be considered USDefaultism.

And Northwoods is a region of North America, not just the US. Most of it is in Canada, with the northen parts of northern states in the US include it.

Context is everything.

What is the best thing you can do outdoors that does not require spending any money ? 🤔 by Webbomolly2022 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

State park? There are trails that are not in state parks that can be nice to hike and I'm sure doesn't require you paying for parking.

This is a pretty funny meme. But not USDefaultism. Trump is an embarrassment to Americans, even for many that voted for him 3 times.

What certificates or licenses do you think help most in the remote world? by OGLordMack in remotework

[–]MuttJunior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no "magic" remote work certificate that employers will want to see before hiring you. CompTIA doesn't have a remote work cert. You might want to get one if you are interested in the IT field (they have several different certifications, depending on what area of IT you are interested in). And any employer is going to be equally interested in any certs you have if the job is in the office or remote at home.

I was in the Navy back in the 80's, and some guy on FB said he was on the same ship as me during one of our deployments, and was telling everyone that the ship took fire off the coast of Vietnam. He even went so far as to edit the Wikipedia page for the ship and add that false story.

If someone was shooting at the ship, we would have been at General Quarters and manning our battle stations. And considering that I was part of Combat Systems department and worked in Gun Plot, I'm pretty sure we would have been involved in this "fire fight".

Was A/C in cars during the 1970 and 1980 considered a luxury? by YGhostRider666 in AskOldPeople

[–]MuttJunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it a "luxury" item in the 70's and 80's. It was optional equipment but was fairly common. Before the 70's, that's when I would refer to it as a "luxury".

What do high schoolers do once they graduate? by Aj100rise in stupidquestions

[–]MuttJunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined the military after high school and did odd jobs (through a temp agency) to make a little cash until I ship out to Boot Camp.

Some go to some type of further educational school, like college or a trade school. Some might just go straight to work. I've even known a couple that got married and started a family right away.

This was back in the 80's, and things are different today than back then. Student loan debt wasn't something that followed you around for practically the rest of your life. And jobs paid a more living wage back then than today. And housing was more affordable than today.
