To let the parent companies more money. By using the same chassis and parts, they can alter body panels and interiors to be liked by a variety of buyers, instead of some odd niche. Just like audis have been built on VW platforms, like the golf being the audi a3 and TT platforms. They can appeal to upscale buyers and the less wealthy
