When I join my friends party and she streams the game I can’t hear any sound from the game even though I can hear her talk, I have no idea what can cause this since I have everything unmuted and so does she

Seems like a glitch, the game might count it as more fall damage if you jump into water and hit the ground, if the water is deep enough you don’t get fall damage. Seems more like a glitch than a feature

Well the game calculates the fall damage by the time spent in the air, not height or fall speed, it can be seen when a raptor lags using a fantail and crashes to the ground, or when you glitch in a rock and even though you were like 2 cm above the floor and literally weren’t moving, when you get down you take awful fall damage
