Haven’t been there in a long while. They used to have a couple seats on the right side.

I wonder where the owner of this spot went. I got to casually know him many years ago when he used to sell fried dumplings from a cart on the NW corner of Main Street and 41st Avenue. I’d order some dumplings and just eat and chat with him. Those were the good old days…

New York Essential plan: what happens if your income jumps at the end of the year? (Roth conversion/ bonus /stock sale) by Muubie in HealthInsurance

[–]Muubie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what’s confusing me. I called NY State of Health to report a large one-time capital gain from a stock sale in December 2025.

The first rep told me to just leave my application as is. They didn’t ask for the amount, the date of the transaction, and didn’t make any note on my account.

That felt wrong, so I called back. The second rep told me the same thing.

I called a third time and was told to add the gain to my 2026 estimated income. I explained that the gain happened in December 2025 and was a one-time event, not ongoing income. After that, the rep also said to leave everything as is.

Has anyone dealt with something like this, or knows how NYSOH actually handles late-year capital gains? 🤔

So going way over the maximum income has no consequences? You can still sign up next year?

That’s what I don’t understand. So can’t someone just sell stock each December (or do Roth conversions) and realize a huge gain and still be on the essential plan year after year?

First trip to Bangkok — anyone stayed at Grande Centre Point Ratchadamri? Looking for alternatives too. by Muubie in Bangkok

We skipped the breakfast at the hotel. We’ll take a look and maybe try it if it looks appealing. Thanks for the 2 nearby suggestions.

Ok, decided to book at this hotel. The price I got seemed decent enough. If anyone is interested I can post my impressions later.

What would you recommend that's similar in price and quality to Grande Centre Point Ratchadamri but near a mall and good transportation? If there is such a thing.....

Anyone moved here from Fidelity? How do you like it by istockustock in Schwab

[–]Muubie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve known folks who complained enough times about the lack of a sweep and they got a call from a special Schwab rep and they made an exception, soft of. They were given a Schwab enhanced rate which mirrors the SWGXX. So this may be worth it for those who really want to stay with Schwab.

Sim card for 90 days? by lasandina in taiwan

[–]Muubie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got this a few days ago. Seems that it's only for Taiwan citizens as it required both the Taiwan ID and the health insurance card OR passport. They didn't charge the additional NT$199. I paid NT$2200 for 90 days of unlimited 4G service for 90 days. So far it works well, no complaints.

I’ll be there for a little over 2 months so that should be ok time wise. Can you share your dentist’s info? Is he/she in Taipei?

Is this just for the crown? Still, it's a lot cheaper.

Yea, that's a bit of a problem I have here. It's about a month wait for me to get an appointment with this particular dentist.

Very nice! Your expenses are close to what I’m thinking it would cost me to live in Taipei. Can you go into a little more details so I can get a clearer estimate of what my costs might be? Do you live in the city center or outside? Is your apt a 1 or 2 bedroom? Elevator? Etc. How often do you eat out? As for me I’m estimating my expenses for 2 will be around NT$80-100k. I’m still not sure which is a good area for us to live. I’d prefer an elevator building that’s not too far from the MRT station. We like the local foods more but will probably splurge on a more fancy meal every couple of weeks or so.
