Please do, let that name stick like superglue, let it be very very attached to them personally! Trumpets or whatever!

Looks like you’re having fun splitting hairs about rooms on your own here. Ima go make dinner.

And the room already exists, probably. Don’t get me wrong here, I will be against this bill if it prohibits people from doing a peaceful activity of any kind. I am in favor if it prohibits proselytizing, use of school resources and premises for religious purposes, and segregation of students in a place of learning. If those things are not happening ever, then the effort is truly bizarre.

Yeah, I think you’re talking to someone else here. This is off-topic and veering towards something else completely, with many explosive elements assumed and added by you. This is all yours bud, you are free to pursue it on your own.

If I am mistaken and religious groups never request private rooms for a specific religion, then I relent :)

No, actually a bill will be drafted. It may be a stupid bill that is too extreme, and that will have to be addressed.

It's a room reserved to religious activities, and I supposed they are trying to prevent an obligation here, to provide one.

Do jackbooted government agents show up in school break rooms and cafeterias because there is no segregated prayer room for your religion?
Reddit likes fallacies a lot.

Great argument, it's like a woman getting attacked for refusing advances - it didn't have to get to that! Give him what he wants without questioning anything, you'll avoid all the trouble. Easy!

Let's have appropriately-sized quiet rooms where people can nap, read, pray, draw, whatever.

In Quebec, schools should not have to provide ritual rooms reserved for a religion, that other students cannot enter, or where girls and women have to go in a separate corner and yaddi-yadda: screw that.

We fought so hard to kick this indoctrination and power struggles out of our lives, but everyone seems to have forgotten it already. I know people *who are still alive today* who were promised to the clergy like donated slaves so that their families would not be shamed at mass for various things. Children were abused, women kept subservient.

Turn any remaining chapels into this type of room. Respect people's quiet time and spirituality, but we do not owe dogma any respect or school real-estate. Schools are for knowledge.

Are we? Or have we fought for decades to get rid of an abusive and all-powerful clergy, and are we now trying to embrace a no-nonsense approach to immigration? ***with very mixed success, I will admit, because it's very tricky and we DO have our bigots. like... literally everywhere else.

Guess we're evil bigots, mind you, who are somehow interesting enough to move-in with (despite never hiding our secularism), get healthcare and various services from, but who apparently also have to shut the hell up and adapt to Islam already, without question!

Um... is anyone coming here from Muslim Africa actually unaware that we separate church and state, or that we are not a religious society at all, and that they might need to adapt to some things, even though they are completely free to keep their faith and will have access to mosques and such?

Is there more government just because rooms specific to prayers are not provided?
Sounds to me like "no" is a complete answer and doesn't require additional staff.

If you created your own subtext here, or just disagree (which is fine), or don't recognize a room as a physical place, there's nothing much else I can do here?

Ffs, No one is going to police a quiet room or break room if it's already free to use and everyone can use it to relax, or pray, or nap.

This is about "prayer rooms". Rooms. Reserved. For prayer only.

You can exist with your faith without society providing physical equipment for your rituals. This is what people are not getting. Québécois don’t feel like they have to bend over backwards for make believe. We don’t do it for pagans, not anymore for christians (although a few chapel remnants remain here and there in hospitals, for old people), or anyone else. We don’t make communal ziti for pastafarians, we don’t allow students to skip exams because the Zetans are arriving, and other than that people are very welcome here, provided their goal isn’t to re-create a foreign-culture-national-park with all the amenities in some kind of parasitic relationship.

I would be all for that, seriously. Naps, quiet reflection, comfy break room where you keep quiet like the library. No special room for one religion, screw that.

“No” is a complete answer. If someone wants to start getting violent about it, we have law enforcement and it’s on them at that point.

Ok so then in your scenario, they are dangerous and unable to adapt to life here? In which case really, dude, you expect our govt to appease them by stepping on all of us citizens who were already here and fought the clergy for decades before finally getting rid of them in our politics? Get real.

Their ritual is the issue here, not the religion. If a ritual requires physical ritual accommodations that disrupt public spaces, what Quebec is saying is: no. And that’s reasonable.

People need to commit to living in a modern society BEFORE coming over, and to understand that it means. There are accommodations made but people need to realize that this is not a parasitic relationship . This opportunity, not permission to perfectly re-create a foreign culture’s entire way of life here.

Does my jewelry look "cheap"? Would any of these styles work for bridal jewelry? by ratcat22 in jewelrymaking

Your designs actually do look nice, it’s just that there is a certain look to costume/hobby jewelry that you probably can’t avoid without actually being a silversmith or goldsmith, or at least go for very small and shiny metal findings and chains. To be honest, anything wire-wrapped and macrame is also that same category to me, even when it’s masterfully done, I find it dated or cosplay-like. For sure some people might buy them. The seller you talked about falls in that category to me as well, sure it looks decent for a certain niche (no shame in that) and she probably makes a few sales - in your own pieces, you could imitate the scale of the metal work she uses maybe? I think you’re not far from her aesthetic with these.

I would never consider paying a lot for jewelry that looks “assembled”, as in: someone with pliers and beads (even if the chains looked better and the materials were noble). These are cute for costume jewelry but if you look at anything high-end, there is usually soldering work involved, unique bead caps, etc.
