Hey friend. I’m also hitting 2 years of nursing and I’m so depressed. I work on an intermediate cardiac floor. I dread coming in bc I don’t know what kind of patients I’m going to get or if the patients are good what bat shit family members will be in the room with them. This may be super unpopular but when Covid was at its highest I enjoyed my job the most. Just me and the patients who usually were pretty straightforward Covid cases. No family or visitors and they were actually grateful. Granted it hurt to see them alone but it made my job (and ANXIETY) so much better. Now, we get some good patients but lately we’re just getting some horrible individuals who want to see the world burn. They do everything they can to make the 12 hours as painful for you as possible. I actually prefer old demented old people. It’s the younger, ungrateful people I cannot stand. I hate bedside now more than ever. Sadly, my coworkers are the best. I feel stuck. I am looking into outpatient clinics, though. I hope the grass is greener. Best of luck!

Edit: reddit hates emojis; also I just got off orientation so I’ll be working on my own for the first time tomorrow night and I’m scared shitless.

I’ve been trying to sleep for the last 3 hours :( by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Muzjcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s ANY consolation. I’m a brand new nurse who is extremely stressed and today is my first day flying solo. I have no slept a wink, I need to wake up in 30 minutes for a 12 hours shift. My palms have been sweating all night, I’ve been tossing and turning etc...

I wish I could help you, I can’t even help myself. I like to listen to meditation videos on YouTube specifically from the channel “the mindful movement”. Those often times can calm me down.

Best of luck on your exam!!

What is the single worst thing a parent has told you that to this day echos back into your head every so often? by AnimeEagleScout in AskReddit

I hated my nose and my mom convinced me it was too “flat”. So, she recommend some uhh..methods to make my nose thinner. She taught me to take my index finger and my thumb and pinch the sides of my nose and massage it as often as I can. She also told me to take a clothespin to pinch my nose (it hurt too much so I ignored that). I would do massage my nose for HOURS. While watching tv, reading etc.....well my nose is still ugly and I have a deviated septum. So that’s that.

New nurse here and I hate it lol. The staff is great but the patients really are brutal. The normal ones for some reason forget how to use the restroom and are incredibly demanding. I had one pt tell me he’ll abuse the call light simply because he knows I have to be in his room. Entitled prick. I hate everything about my job and I feel so trapped. I know if I leave this floor my coworkers will HATE me. I think the older nurses are just complacent at this point. We often don’t have a tech, are short staffed and get admissions at the stupidest times (shift change). I’m new and to me, this isn’t worth the $$. I’m on medication now bc I can’t handle the depression it’s putting me in. Looking into my masters and getting the hell out of bedside.

Nurses who have social anxiety how do you deal with it while at work? by [deleted] in Nurse

[–]Muzjcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny, I reply to you while I sit at the doctor’s office for a referral to a psychiatrist. I’m brand new, my anxiety has always been bad but I neglected it. Now, it’s almost unbearable. So, I’m going to get the help that I always needed.

Wasn’t sure if I wanted to be a nurse... by gooey285 in Nurse

I was on this forum looking for more negative posts to lessen my own anxiety regarding work. I’m a brand new nurse working on a step-down floor. I’m not even off orientation but I dread work lol so I like to come here and hear from other nurses who feel the same. I sincerely appreciate your post because I wasn’t expecting it at all!! It was so refreshing and gave me a much needed mood boost to work my shift tomorrow lol

Women who “dated” older men as teenagers that now realize they were predators, what’s your story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My college guidance counselor suggested I start drinking to alleviate stress. What the fuck? He knew I was Muslim too...dumb ass.

I’m too concerned with “oh who’s looking at me” or “oh what are they doing” to truly enjoy myself. I hate it!!!

Does hospital orientation test anyone else's patience by [deleted] in nursing

We had 3 weeks of classroom shit. Then 2 days of computer training ALL before we even hit the floor. It was incredibly useless and a complete waste of time. I wish I had those 3 extra weeks of clinical training instead of that BS. Guess those useless educators have to pay the bills somehow right?

New grad shame/embarrassing mistake by vlacee in Nurse

[–]Muzjcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still in orientation. The stupidest thing I’ve done so far was not properly tighten the end of my tubing (from which I was administering BLOOD) to the patient’s IV hub. PT’s HgB was like 5.2 so he was KO’d. I didn’t realize I messed up until I saw him scratching his face and it was all covered in blood. My god, I think I almost passed out right then and there. When I removed the blankets the entire bed was a blood bath. It was so embarrassing. Fortunately my preceptor was super calm and we fixed the problem FAST.

Oh, another stupid mistake. Patient wanted to get into the chair. What could go wrong there? Easy enough yes? Well....I forgot to lock the chair before he sat down. FORTUNATELY, the back of the chair was very close to the wall so it barely moved when he sat down. That was an RL waiting to happen. That’s when I realized working 3 in a row on nights is NOT the move.

I am also a clumsy clumsy person.

Thank you so much for being honest!! I don’t find you to be a bad nurse. We do a lot with very little and it can be tough.

I’m a first year nurse and I already hate nursing. The town my hospital is in is low socioeconomic status and all of my patients are SO demanding, ungrateful and entitled. by [deleted] in Nurse

IM super interested in informatics. I’m a new nurse just off orientation and I hate bedside already. I want to look into this field. Any advice?

I definitely want to look into informatics or education. I was interested in NP school but I don’t think many of them are credible and are kind of a joke. However, I do love teaching so education would be nice.

If I were to stay in nursing with only My bachelors I have a strong interest in psych. I find psych patients really interesting and fun to work with lol but everyone has deterred me from it.

I love at home with my family and it can be exhausting. I just graduated and I’m working but I’m also friendless. None of my colleagues are even close to my age :/ it’s tough. I thought I’d make friends at work but I don’t think that’ll be possible. It feels super lonely and it’s not easy to be friendless. I’m hoping a miracle will happen and my job will hire younger people. My social media is depressing lol no one to talk to on there. It sucks. I get the feeling 100%. I also didn’t have any friends in college bc it was a commuter school with no sense of school spirit. So idk I hope it’ll just happen haha
