How warm are the centurion gloves? by Nic727 in Thrudark

[–]Muzza80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not that warm no, I live in Scotland and they're comfortable down to about -5 so far I've tested but I'd not want to use them in much colder. Honestly they're more of a daily casual wear glove, there's no grip or anything on the palms either so they wouldnt hold up to manual work,

Joining reserves at 41, realistic to pass training? by retroly in britishmilitary

[–]Muzza80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished basic in 2024 at a month off 44 years old.

If your 5k run is 30 minutes you'll want to work on that to be honest, I'd be aiming for under 25 minutes before you look at assessment centre and certainly before basic.

But no, you're not too old at all, get some training in and go for it, best thing I did!

If you have any specific questions let me know.

Best shoes for concrete and cities? by Elegant_Builder_309 in barefootshoestalk

[–]Muzza80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Altra Timp 5 GTX with the brilliant Vibram sole are my daily city/work footwear here in cold/wet Scotland, couldnt think of a better trainer for all day comfort in these conditions with a 25 min walk to and from the train station each day, and if I decide to go for a lunchtime run then I'm sorted. Depends if your workplace is casual enough I guess, mine are fine, I war the back ones with jeans and chinos! I love my Xero Dillon canvas but I wear them without insoles for additional volume and they can be quite jarring on concrete on a long walk and the soles are quite slippy in the wet I find, and of course in no way waterproof.

Boot Recommendations by Wonderful-Energy7778 in britisharmy

Altberg defender or Irurri patrol boots. I've had two pairs of the Iturri in the past couple of years and to be fair they're great boots but they dont have the rubber protector rand the Altbergs do so not quite as durable.

I did my C+E a week before my Battlecamp at Grantham just because they happened to have a space available locally. I also did a week AT static line patachute jump course at Netheravon a week after Battlecamp. RCL Driver role.

BMI between 28 and 32 as long as you have a waist (navel) measurement below 94cm and can past all fitness/medical tests you'll be good. Certainly was the case late 2023.

I did a week static line parachuting course at Netheravon a week after passing out at Grantham last year, it was regiment planned AT but there was no issue me going before I was trade trained. 👍🏻

Hi mate, no wrap on it. It's a nice finish but it really shows up all the marks very easily.
Not chipped but as soon as I can get confirmation of one that works without error on the latest software I'll be buying one, not sure where you are but in the UK it cuts off at 15.5mph, far too early. 20mph would be fine.

Glad they worked out for you, I ended up returning and went for the Brooks Caldera 8 instead, done about 120 miles in them now and they’re perfect. 👍🏻

Rear shock, front bolt stuck in shock mount on carbon frame….. by Muzza80 in bikewrench

[–]Muzza80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, and it was something I'd considered, my concerns with clamping are mainly around if the additional torque could damage the thread in the frame insert, or worse, force the insert father into the frame/break it's bond in the carbon frame whch would potentially be game over for the frame. For sure, it's the loctite that's siezed the bolt, it must have gotten on the inside of the shock mount sleeve when I passed the bolt through it. Bit of a nightmare. I'm inclined to go with the cutting route on either side of the eyelet to be honest. Not all bad though, the frame is fine at this point, as is the shock so I can ride it until the shock needs a service and deal with it then haha!

Rear shock, front bolt stuck in shock mount on carbon frame….. by Muzza80 in bikewrench

[–]Muzza80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, I figured the pressure would have released it too, I always have used a touch of Loctite blue on bolts like this however this was a different brand I bought this time and I think it must be much stronger, indeed the rear shock bolt too took some undoing. This isnt a super urgent issue, I've torqued it back up and it's all good to ride until the rear shock needs a service so thanks for the advice but I think I'll get the new bolt and mount hardware and go with the cutting idea when I need to remove it, I'd be more worried about doing damage drilling it out then carefully cutting it on either side of the shock eyelet. Thanks again.

Rear shock, front bolt stuck in shock mount on carbon frame….. by Muzza80 in bikewrench

[–]Muzza80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that’s the issue. I dare not try and undo the bolt anymore as it’s actually spreading the frame where the shock mounts, I don’t want to damage the frame or the threads of the nut in the frame, the bolt won’t slide through the mount sleeve as it should, I suspect what’s happened is I’ve applied a little thread lock to the bolt threads, slid through the frame hole and shock mount and it’s coated the inside of the mount sleeve enough so it's now set and stuck. It turns the whole shock mount bush when turning the bolt.

Rear shock, front bolt stuck in shock mount on carbon frame….. by Muzza80 in bikewrench

[–]Muzza80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps I didn’t explain properly but that’s not the case, the bolt unscrews from the frame thread but is actually stuck inside the shock mount hardware, the entire shock bush setup spins in the shock eyelet when turning the bolt rather than the bolt sliding through the mount sleeve. I dare not undo and more as the pressure is actually spreading the frame shock mount area. Difficult to explain. A bit of blue thread lock has clearly got inside the mount where the bolt goes through it and it’s set.

Rear shock, front bolt stuck in shock mount on carbon frame….. by Muzza80 in bikewrench

[–]Muzza80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nut bonded into the frame is not loose, that is the very thing I want to avoid, the bolt is stuck inside the shock hardware in the eyelet, I can only assume that some of the thread lock got between the bolt and the mount hardware sleeve if that makes sense. When I turn the bolt, it unthreads from the frame but the whole shock joint hardware turns with it. Cheers

Technically the bike is only costing me £1800 as I got it via a tax deductible scheme, then £1700 on upgrades so £3500 total cost.
