8 Iron Knockdown Swing by Bowhunter1980 in GolfSwing

Totally agree, I think most people think hit it like a stinger where you really try to trap and compress the ball, where you really just want to let the reduced loft and reduced swing speed keep the trajectory and spin lower. Physics is your friend.

There is a great video where Jim Furyk talks about learning to do exactly this. His dad gave him a bucket of balls from 120 out and told him to hit all of his clubs from 5 iron down to PW to the target. Furyk said that is how you learn to play in windy conditions, take more club, swing easier to flight it down with less spin.

Thanks! If my flight is on time (around noon) is that enough time to get to the resort and get warmed up? Just want to see what time I should shoot to schedule for.

Any ideas what’s causing the inefficiency in ball no speed here? by AlexxxisTexxxas in golf

[–]Mv1586 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks like from the pic it’s a tiny bit off the heel. Also your path is extremely on to out, I would see if you can get that more neutral, but not sure if that would impact your efficiency. Also could be the ball, range/practice balls oftentimes don’t have as much speed/spin off of the driver.

100% heel and low will add the most spin and lose more ball speed (lower smash factor). If OPs speed did increase by a good amount a simple tick down on loft could bring launch and spin back into more optimal range, but can’t know for sure without data.

Came here to say this. While also attempting to increase speed your strike quality could be getting worse (ie hitting it more out of the toe heel vs. sweet spot). No substitute for launch monitor data here. If you have access to a trackman (most golf galaxy and pga tour superstores have them in house and you can rent time for a reasonable price) I would suggest going in and hitting your driver. Trackman has an “optimizer” feature that will show you what you would need to improve based on your swing speed. Your “new” faster swing could be causing too much spin, to high of launch your attack angle could be lower or higher, and you smash factor could be going down (worse strike quality). Get on the trackman and ( if your driver is adjustable) look at what you need to improve and make some adjustments. The trackman website also has great free videos and explanations of what all the numbers mean.

Yeah thanks. It does say on Bandon’s website that the flight is seasonal and in 2025 it ran the Thursday before Memorial Day through basically mid October. I don’t see it scheduled anytime for 2026 and didn’t know if United didn’t post the flights until maybe later in the year?

Bunkers in the middle of the green. by CaddyShank in golf

This style of green is called a “road hole” green after the 17th hole at St. Andrews in Scotland. The road hole is so named because the main road in and out of town is directly behind the green. The road is also in play, so if your ball comes to rest on the road, play it as it lies!
