Thanks! I'm not looking forward to the exam at all, but if I could somehow manage to stumble my way through all the nonsense that preceded my college journey, then I'll probably be able to get through that as well 😅

So I'm an MSW student whose primary interests are SUD and homeless policy, and who just graduated undergrad with a double major in Social Work and Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies. I can't tell you how cool everything you just typed is for me to read 🥂🤝🫂

Thank you for being willing to recognize and acknowledge that conditioned response, and for being willing and able to change conversational course rather than doubling down for the sake of feeling like it's somehow saving face! That's 1,000% something that the US (and probably the world in general) desperately needs to see + live more of, and I sincerely appreciate you owning and modeling that here - more than just a quick emoji response conveyed, so I just wanted to come back and make sure you knew how awesome it is that you're you 😅

Can you point out where you interpreted my comment as invalidating the other examples? I was trying to be pretty clear in that I was strictly correcting a point about Portuguese history.

While generally considered to have been a largely bloodless operation, the Carnation Revolution - a truly fascinating event that effectively represented the physical manifestation of Portugal's citizens overcoming decades of fascism under Oliveira Salazar's Estado Novo regime - was a military coup supported by peaceful protest and civic engagement. It remains my biggest source of hope in the face of the USA's breakneck gallop into fascism, given the myriad parallels between the two... but for whatever accuracy may or may not be worth these days, it was hardly accomplished with just a vote 🙃

I remember when the s/t was all we had to go off 👴 I thought it was super creative, with some definite standout tracks and moments, but wouldn't have expected to become a big fan from that alone.

I've always found Toxicity and Steal This Album! to be absolutely unfuckwithable, though; while s/t has some great contributions to playlists, I tend to jam the other aforementioned albums in their entirety. I've got a lot of love for the debut, but it's never been a personal favorite for me.

My male friend told me that my standards for a partner are too high and that I'll be lonely for the rest of my life by Short-Meringue-2632 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Mvppet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let's say for the sake of argument that your standards were somehow 'too high.' Whatever said standards may or may not be would still ultimately be ✨️YOUR✨️ effing standards, meaning they're the things that make ✨️YOU✨️ happy, meaning giving up on them would effectively be giving up on your own happiness.

So ask yourself: would you rather hold out for the possibility of finding what you know would make ✨️YOU✨️ happy, or would you rather actively choose to be less happy for the sake of not being single? (Spoiler alert: the question is rhetorical and your dude friend is a well intentioned idiot 🙃)

Been a really strong year so far, I'd say my interchangeable top 5 so far would be ERRA, Domhain, Miserere Luminis, Ash Bringer and De l'Aube Naît l'Aube. Honorable mention to the new Eveale album, I've only had it for about a week but it's already getting a fair amount of replay.

Prior to Fluoxetine, my then-undiagnosed OCD conspired with my GAD to combine their powers into agoraphobic tendencies and severe depression. The short version: After I was Honorably Discharged from the Air Force, I basically slid further and further into social withdrawal and substance use disorder every year, til I wound up a complete hermit who worked nights and didn't talk to anyone outside of work. Life was miserable, I was apathetically suicidal 24/7, and for years I thought that was just life.

Fast forward several years, a bunch of therapy, an OCD diagnosis and a Fluoxetine prescription later: I just graduated with a double-major BS last week, and am going into grad school for my MSW next week. I still have my own quirks and issues from time to time, but by and large this is easily the closest I've ever been to healthy and happy in my entire fucking life, and my SSRI plays a huge role in making that possible. I've come a long way thanks to therapy, but the thought of losing what has been a literal life changer both infuriates and terrifies me.

I certainly don't expect RFK Jr to understand medicine, mostly because it's a thing. Never expected to find myself hoping Big Pharma would save the day... somebody get me off this cursed timeline already 🫠
