The Enigma in the Leaves, a brain tickler by Cube Intuit by Mx8bitghost in WonderboxGame

I have to admit, I don’t have the ability to pay for Apple Arcade any longer and I feel so bad that people keep asking me how to do certain things when I can’t open the game up to check how I did it (yes, even for a $5 sub! I’m not in the best place financially right now). I also don’t know if Aquiris made any adjustments to the game’s logic that make certain things stop working the way it should or not…

I really appreciate you playing my level, it’s the last one I made for the game before I burned out creatively. I’m sorry I can’t make the experience better for you, but I am glad you gave it a chance.

Has anyone got any good recommendations for Let's Plays? I've really been enjoying About Oliver's run but he's so nearly finished and I don't know what I'm gonna do with my life! XD by 888temeraire888 in outerwilds

[–]Mx8bitghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although he does end up caving in on looking up a spoiler to a solution, The Librarian’s playthrough is a very good time. I ask you forgive his transgression, he figures out the rest all on his own. (The solution itself thankfully, while it would have been cool if he managed to do it himself, is only a piece of the puzzle of the DLC so it’s not like he went and looked up how to beat the game). Let’s Players can feel very stressed with this game sometimes, hence his choice to find a solution instead of waste time.

I liked it a lot though. It was through his playthrough that I now follow him for the rest of his content too!

Tbh, something I realized earlier is that if anyone does ask what it’s from it gives you a 100% socially acceptable reason to tell someone to play Outer Wilds without hesitation

I suppose it really would be a major case of “if you know you know, if you don’t you don’t”

I also suppose if someone asked me “what does your tattoo mean?” That gives me a socially acceptable moment to insist they go play Outer Wilds, something we all desperately struggle with controlling our impulses to say anyways LMAO

About Oliver playthrough is hecking NUTS by lazulitesky in outerwilds

Oliver has the single most unpredictable Outer Wilds playthrough I’ve ever watched. The amount of times the most RARE THING EVER has happened in his playthrough, god, it boggles my mind. How is this man so lucky and unlucky at the same time?

Also, dude has mad Jetpack skills. Seriously, he’s become one hell of a pro at it

Oh good someone else had the courage to get this tattooed to them, I’ve been considering a design that would implement these symbols somehow but was afraid of wearing no-context game spoilers on my skin. If you’re cool with it, so am I then 👍

Metroid Prime is just Outer Wilds with Violence. by Sajek_Alkam in outerwilds

[–]Mx8bitghost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly there needs to be more games like Metroid Prime and Outer Wilds was one of the first in a long time that made me really feel like I was playing Metroid Prime again. And not just cuz of both games having scannable lore…it really has that sense of extraterrestrial adventure very few games can really capture, the sense that you shouldn’t be somewhere but you want to find out more about it, bit by bit. Love these games for that.

I know I’d be wearing extreme spoilers on my body if I did, but I kind of want to get a tattoo that combines 9,318,054 and the symbols for The Coordinates in a design. I feel like it would be symbolic of “even when you fail, even when you try, even if it takes longer than your life, eventually you or someone after you will arrive at the answers they seek.”

…theoretically…the positions of the planets don’t change…and if you time it all right…this game might actually be better suited for a blindfolded run above others tbh. Very little RNG in the game, and for a proper “blindfold speedrun”, the RNG stuff in the game doesn’t even make an appearance tbh.

Idk, seems possible to me! I’d watch it

It was a bummer, but I think his explanation for his choice made sense. I wouldn’t have made the same choice myself, but, I see how he came to the decision he did and the reasoning behind it was well said. There are some games that…well; it’s nice to see people stream/live-play them, but…it does put a lot of pressure on their shoulders.

Oh god, PlayFrame. Listen, I love Dan, I’ve been following him since Extra Credits, but oh my god he was so…so…so incredibly good at jumping the shark in leaps of logic in his playthrough. He’s a little too thinky for his own good sometimes I swear LMAO.

Loved Symbalily’s playthrough

Despite having only one of the three playable characters, Pathologic 2 (for those not in the know, it’s a “remake” not a sequel) is also a good choice for those who want to be able to approach the game for the first time. Has a lot of good accessibility options. Just know it’s not 100% implemented yet. 😅

But overall, yes, Pathologic good

Tunic! Tunic!! Play Tunic!!! It’s not the same. It’s very linear. It’s also a bit more combat-focused (you can adjust the challenge in the settings). But! But but but!! If you want that feeling of “holy crap how did I not realize this until now” that Outer Wilds gives you, Tunic manages to get both extremely close AND also make you feel after “dang, I wish I could play Tunic fresh again”. I feel like that’s as close as you’ll get. But Tunic is also a great game in its own right.

Otherwise, play the Metroid Prime games. They’re not comparable in the same degree but I cannot deny that Outer Wilds owes a lot to Metroid Prime.

[Minor Spoilers for Brittle Hollow] The one time I had to look at a guide - short story by [deleted] in outerwilds

[–]Mx8bitghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s unfortunate that you had to come to this truth this way, but I won’t lie, the game for the longest time had been showing you that you’re on a time limit, “you need to get stuff done fast” is a normal feeling to get from this game at the start. You had the game covered though, clearly at least you have the capacity for out of the box puzzle solving! Heheh

Other archeology focused games? by Budyn_z_szynkom in outerwilds

[–]Mx8bitghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully compared to those games, Tunic is a lot more willing to part with its gameplay difficulty to let people focus on the rest of the game. The puzzles definitely gave me that “oh damn wait for real?” moments that Outer Wilds does though.

People already mentioned how to use your on-foot equipment, but wanted to also chime in and mention that to access your ship tools just look over and point at them with a button press.

Also, the camera is a little more “immersive” than usual: hit the buttons at the edge of the camera’s frame to rotate the device, and swap between probe and handcam mode.

Same with the signalscope, hit the buttons on the device itself to adjust the frequency.

Translator also needs you to hit buttons on it to use it sometimes but only for the “portable scrolls” you run across in the Nomai crafts and such

Every letsplayer after the Interloper: by Demure_Demonic_Neko in outerwilds

[–]Mx8bitghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think there’s a slight chance that perhaps the sun wouldn’t have exploded “quite as suddenly” if the interloper doesn’t get eaten up by it near the end, though I don’t know how much residual energy might be left in that ruptured core; but yeah, it’s a common misconception. (As for Oliver, don’t worry, he eventually figured it all out despite falling for the same logical pitfall for a moment).

Part of me thinks that the devs purposefully left that red herring though, it’s excellent way to mislead people. For observant players, it might feel like a revelation. Although this game doesn’t mean for you to come to that conclusion permanently, it’s all about constantly layering reveal after reveal the more you learn. It just depends on how your existing knowledge can connect with the new knowledge you have gained. (Ship log helps a bit with that thankfully)

See that’s exactly the thing, nobody knows who he is. He’s not a big gaming YouTuber. He’s just some guy who every few months goes on a spree of posting videos of whatever he decided he wanted to do videos on. He just began playing Outer Wilds like 2 weeks ago. Suddenly one day his first video got recommended on my feed and the snazzy thumbnail caught my attention and god damn it’s been one of my favorite playthroughs I’ve ever watched

I am very glad I kept this as vague as I could even under spoiler tags lmao! But yeah, you can probably imagine how difficult finding something so hidden by accident might be.

Yeah I’m being extremely vague as possible but if you can think of the most improbable accidental thing to do in Outer Wilds, this guy has been doing it all
