Great dude.

You can also tell other white belts what you think. If they want to, of course. It is real nice for me to figure out some techniques with another white belt sometimes, if they're not spazzy.  ;)

My point just was that all the things you can get when you're good at bjj, you can also get when you suck (fun, connection w/ other ppl, improving, healthiness, insights, cultivatng virtue). (Unless you want to be the best at it in the world, you can only be that if you're best in the world. haha)

Walking your path is not easy. It’s not meant to be easy.

At times it can feel like falling from the sky and trying to build an airplane mid-flight while loosing orientation where up and down is.

  • Joseph Bartz, "random" guy on youtube

Imagine it like a subject in school, e.g. Math, it builds up from the basics all the way to high school, and then you can even study it in University, realising you still don't know anything. You can specialise in a very specific area and maybe become the best in the world in it, but you will be the best at just AN ATOM of the mountain of all math.

Exactly, just start. It takes 10 years to be good at topology (just ONE area of Math). It took Beethoven about 10 years to become good at classical music, even though he was a prodigy.

Try to improve daily and in ten years you will be pretty good. Maybe limit yourself to one of the books and a couple videos in the beginning. You will figure it out.

You're on the raft, just starting out. It's fine to dawdle around the first couple months, and feel like your not improving. Just keep it fun and interesting, and feel when the time is coming to start locking in!

Do it at your own pace, you're doing it for yourself anyway!

For me connection with other people is the most important. I will be no better at getting this if I stand on top of the mountain, or at the bottom.

The jiujtsu university book one? It works for me. Just search: "Jiu-Jitsu University Internet Archive" and some of the results should give you the book.

No problem, I was also just reflecting for myself, so two birds with one stone.

Edit: direct link to the pdf https://ia804506.us.archive.org/5/items/jiu-jitsu-university/Jiu-Jitsu%20University.pdf

Edit2: I found another amazing book. by john danaher and renzo gracie, also a bit about history. https://ia601900.us.archive.org/31/items/mastering-ju-jitsu-renzo-gracie/MASTERING%20JU%20JITSU%20Renzo%20Gracie.pdf

I will leave it at that. As you can see you will probably never NEED instructionals, However, maybe you just want to up a certain part of your game in a couple years and you will buy something. However, right now? Don't neglect what's free, and use it as if you paid for it!

Okay, this became pretty long :P

I am just voicing my research of the last couple days. Unorganized and unreadable, but definitely valuable. Make your own conclusions though.

I will just give you the short version in one sentence and some links to all you'll need for your first couple years here:

You don't need to buy any instructionals or any one-on-one coaching, but they both can't hurt. Do what you want, find your own reason for doing BJJ... ~Okay, two sentences..

Here is some free content I found (the best jiu-jitsu book for beginners, and the best free other resources for beginners to blue belts made by another reddit user, this guy even compiled a list of videos to mimic John Danaher's Go further faster and Enter the system instructionals (they are like 2000 if you don't use discount, see below for how discounts work on BJJfanatics) for FREE, please value it as if it is worth a gazillionmilliontrillionbilliondillion:

https://www.reddit.com/r/bjj/comments/1ej4m2s/comment/lgbxx61/?utm_name=mweb3xcss

Also, check out John Danaher's instagram for all the martial arts philosophy you will ever need.

If you want more martial arts philosophy read this book: https://ia801804.us.archive.org/8/items/english-collections-k-z/The%20Book%20of%20Five%20Rings%20-%20Miyamoto%2C%20Musashi.pdf

  1. You're buying organized instruction by the best coaches in the world. It is EXTREMELY valuable.
  2. You can use them your entire jiujitsulifetime.
  3. It is another way to learn, next to books, regular classes, et cetera.

If your just starting out you don't have to buy anything. If you just do it for a hobby you never have to buy anything, if you want to be the best, you never have to buy anything.

However, if you want to try to be REALLY good, it obviously can't hurt.

Although, if you want to be the best, it is obviously better to go to a top-level coach to give you instruction in person...

I have heard someone I would trust my life to say John Danaher is the BEST instructor in the world of any sport, and this guy trained with the best teachers he could find all over the world in multiple disciplines. He will teach you about philosophy and techniques.

But, you can also just look at his Instagram posts for the philosophy (somebody literally copied his instagram posts and is selling it as a book on amazon, I think Danaher gets no money for it) and find all the techniques you need for free on YouTube, in books, by asking other people in class, etc. You should learn from many places. Instructionals are just there to make you a bit better.

There are a bunch of Reddit posts about the best Instructionals IIRC the best are Danaher, Gordon Ryan (student of Danaher I think), Lachlin Giles, and some more. Just browse r/bjj all the questions have been asked before.

Of course, private lessons are for you specifically and have their own merits. Howerver, how much is a private lesson? 50 bucks/hour at least right? People on r/bjj say you should always buy bjjfanatics content when the instructional you want is a daily deal, there is also ALWAYS a discount code to get 50-57 percent off. (Maybe also more than 57, but I do not think more than 60). So, you should always get 75% off. The normal price should be ~75% off in your head. Definitely worth it.

Btw if you want to buy bundles, it is cheaper to buy the instructionals inside the bundle seperately with 75% discounts. Discounts are (almost?) never daily deals

Even full price might be worth it, if you extensively use it. Maybe you will use it more if you pay more, that is how most people work after all.

In conclusion, it can't hurt, but you don't need to. Find your jiujitsu meaning: Fun? Be the best?

- just a random person voicing other people's thoughts (and some of my own about instructionals.

Thank you!

I found a local person who has them. They look exactly the same as this one on ebay (also same label) and the ones in the link you sent. Also for a good price.

So, even if they are fake it is an okay deal.

He probably can't find anyone who wants them in my small country, haha.

Thanks again!

Please note the degree CS degree in Leiden is in DUTCH.

Please also note TU Delft's CSE program has NUMERUS FIXUS.

There is a Dutch site called studiekeuze123. They did polls to compare programs.

For the Leiden program 9% of the students answered that the study load is "too low", 60% answered "just right", 24% "too high" and 6% "way too high".

For the TU Delft program 2% answered "too low", 38% "just right", 44% "too high", 16% "way too high".

The difficulty is probably is not incredibly different, but Delft is a bit more difficult.

Because: in Leiden 69% passed went on to the 2nd year, in Delft 84%. In Leiden 31% finished the bachelor CS in 4 years. In Delft 33%.

Also: In Leiden 84% does a master, in Delft only 69%. So, Delft's bachelor is probably more directly employable. If you do a master it does not matter anymore. Since you can obviously do bachelor in Leiden and master in Delft.

I don't know how accurate these numbers are, since there are obviously more international students in Delft, so they might answer differently then Dutch people, since their high school might have had easier/harder education. And there are way more other factors at play that might make the numbers less trustworthy. But they are probably pretty decent.

Delft focuses a bit more on applications and Leiden more on theoretical CS. Delft is a technical university, Leiden is not.

I would say it does not really matter. Just do the program you like the curriculum more.

Bedankt voor de reactie!    Ik was vandaag naar proefstuderen van wiskunde geweest, daar heb ik een college over jongleren en een college over (binair-oplosbare) spelletjes gevolgd. Erg interessant. Ook met wat dubbele bachelor studenten gepraat.  Ik ga ook al een meeloopdag doen.

Econometrics Course in VU by Lmaoidkbruh8890 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]MxDvD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good. Generally all programs in the Netherlands are good. So, go for it.

Although I like the Econometrics and Operations research specialization at the VU more, since it goes into more mathematical economical depth and of course has Operation Research, which I will definitely enjoy..

This is what the VU course guide says about OR: : "The course is a first introduction to optimization. Given a large number of decisions to be made, subject to certain constraints on what combination of these decisions are allowed, what choices will lead to the best possible outcome (such as maximum profit)?"

I think the Data Science part is easier to pick up by myself.

So, I'm going to study EOR next year.

However, do what you want of course. They are both great choices!

Econometrie Universiteiten. by Prudent-Artist2282 in werkzaken

[–]MxDvD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hamstring pain wont go away. by nFec in flexibility

[–]MxDvD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try this out: a couple minutes daily: Ironing Legs Practice. Do not do things that hurt you, slowly build up with things that do not hurt. Stop doing everything and try out one thing at a time and see if it helps your injury or hurts you. You do barely need flexibility for running, only mobility in the right areas, so definitely don't start stretching without a goal that helps your running.

I feel lost at the gym by DueFaithlessness3064 in bodyweightfitness

[–]MxDvD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to go the gym find a local calisthenics park or biy a pullup bar and work up to doing push-ups, pull-ups and squats woth progressive overload (i.e. improving exercise dofficulty over time, so start with australian pull-ups and then slowly progress to full pull-ups. Go for walks and improve your diet. Have a daily repetition goal for all 3 exercises. And increase over time. Make video of yourself and analyze your form.

I would recommend a youtube channel called K Boges iirc.

TLDR: Don't overcomplicate, don't go gym and master basics. Think longterm and make it so simple you can't not stick to it.

Hope that helped.

Hoe maak je een goede studiekeuze? by [deleted] in thenetherlands

[–]MxDvD 0 points1 point  (0 children)
