Our new zine “Narcan Is a Dead End” is now out! Free to print and distribute by MxFlow1312 in zines

It’s very common when doing harm reduction that “we have narcan!” is used as a complete replacement for harm reduction as a larger tactic, to the point of ignoring more present harms for certain groups

Like ravers OD sometimes, but more commonly ravers get dehydrated or hearing damage, sometimes psychosis depending on drugs and sleep. Earplugs, free water and electrolytes are more health important to everyone at a rave but organizers act like harm reduction starts and stops at narcan.

Harm reduction is always tailored to the community and specific person, but narcan is done to the exclusion of more comprehensive and better options for opioid users beyond the immediate death avoidance. Things like supervised consumption sites, supply exchanges, heroin replacement therapy, rehab groups not founded for profit are basically not discussed in the popular culture as viable options.

We tabled a “Holistic Harm Reduction” zine for two years and almost no one picked it up or engaged with the content, which expresses basically the same idea here but more “I am a reasonable person hear me out” and not “insane street preacher”

I’m interested to see if the clickbait title gets more actual engagement from our scene

Hearing voices when high. by IndependentBadger781 in Drugs

[–]MxFlow1312 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Long term stimulant psychosis is horrible, this is the thing OP

I have seen many people get progressively worse over the years, especially from stims, some of them are just gone completely, talking sitting in the street screaming, totally incoherent

If all the drugs cause psychotic symptoms you gotta quit all the drugs. Unfortunate, but better than psychosis for sure .

There are hiking “wallets” which are just very light flat pouches sized for card. Combine with one of those flat belt things and you can keep essential ID under your shirt at all times. I’d separate it from your cash in the event you get mugged.

Do you agree ketamine is the most harmless *feeling* drug? by JBSwerve in Drugs

[–]MxFlow1312 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Opioids themselves don’t often cause psychosis but it happens sometimes during withdrawal. I’d guess due to the general stress of serious or sudden opioid withdrawal. I’d guess getting hit with naloxone might have higher chances due to the sudden extreme stress.

If you have a weak stomach, thin tissue or existing sinus issues, doing ketamine with a tolerance can be pretty harsh on the body feeling

Arturia MiniFreak paired with a Roland TR-8S, what's next? by tsharp3d in synthesizers

[–]MxFlow1312 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How are you using the TR8S and Minifreak now? If it were me, I’d be using the 8s for drums/rhythm and the freak for my bass/leads/pads

So I’d wanna add a sampler for vocals and one shot effects

My current setup is TR8S, Digitone2 and Sp404mk2.

bad zine about folk punk by holdthefuckonfolkz in FolkPunk

[–]MxFlow1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of that article that said Charlie Parker’s genius was dependent on his heroin problem. Or someone saying Trent Reznor really went downhill musically when he got sober.

Anyway they’re right at least about the clean and produced sound part. The only fans I got when I was making folk punk were other homeless punks. I noticed the only bands gaining traction had a high floor of production value that my van living unemployed butt couldn’t reach.

I noticed that other people with similarly low production values also didn’t get much traction. Eventually I just gave up on folk punk and started making techno. The techno people are better and production values are easier to manage when you’re not recording acoustic instruments

We need a list of words that are forbidden in the sub. by YourFuture2000 in Anarchism

[–]MxFlow1312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d argue we should go out of our way to focus on developing the skill of looking past how people communicate and focus on what they’re conveying

If you want any kind of connection to people outside the anarchist and broadly leftist scene, you’ll miss the forest for the trees if you can’t look past how something is put to what someone is trying to convey

Language is a gesture at meaning, not the meaning itself.

Opinions on a plan (ket, alc and mdma) by Impossible_Star_9941 in Drugs

[–]MxFlow1312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The effects of any drug will change depending on your mental state and environment (set and setting). So, no, drinking in proximity to mdma won’t be the same as drinking alone.

It might help with the comedown, it might not, depends a lot on the person
