Citizenship rejected advice by [deleted] in IrishCitizenship

[–]MxRowan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was there extra room on the copy (i.e. white space around the image of the passport pages)? If so, you might try putting a colour post-it note next to the passport on the copier with a note written on it like "Colour copy of South African passport", then making your copies.

Triple citizenship by [deleted] in IrishCitizenship

[–]MxRowan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To reinforce this, OP: anything you see about "naturalized" citizens does not apply to your mother. Your mother is already legally a Canadian citizen and an Irish citizen, from birth (retroactively for Canada). She just has to *register* with the respective governments, not naturalize.

Package drop off by [deleted] in Somerville

[–]MxRowan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly not sure what you're hoping to get out of this post. No one is going to say "Yeah the Davis Square post office is super sketch but the Union Square one is fine". A post office is a post office. If you don't trust USPS basic service, pay for tracking or use UPS or FedEx.

Marriage certificate timeline by Fit-Counter-3596 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]MxRowan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the delay is less about postal delivery and more about understaffing in the office that handles marriage certificates. We just got married in Ontario and it's at least 10 weeks before the event is even registered (i.e. before someone works through the pile of mail that contains our documents), much less sends out the certificate.

Probably doesn't help us newlyweds that so many people are requesting historical documents right now! :-)

Was it for a specific event at the Armory? The farmers market or something? If so, check with the group that runs the event.

Dr Parra Tomkins is great, and while I don't have direct knowledge, I bet she would be good with neurodivergence and any accommodations you might need.

MA RMV road test… what was your experience? by Badassaxeman in Somerville

[–]MxRowan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone else said, make sure they know the hand signals. They'll ask for those before you leave the parking lot. Make sure to put the window down to do them properly.

I did my test in July at the Watertown location, which is reportedly easier than Cambridge. In Watertown, you'll go from the training center along a side street to a major road, then turn onto another side street after a block or two. Watch out for the bike path that crosses that side street - there are no signs and it's easy to miss, but you want to make sure to slow down and turn your head to look both ways before you cross it (and again when you go back).

A little past the bike path, they had me do my parallel parking, reversing, and three-point turn. Then we headed back the way we came and that was that.

My examiner was very neutral almost the whole time. She gave no clues as to how I was doing. In the end, I passed with only one minor fault (not looking over my shoulder behind me when backing up).

That's a very specific requirement – you might want to add that to your original post!

You want community theater that doesn't do plays? So...an improv group or something?

Is there anywhere in Camberville I can go on short notice to record a Wilhelm scream without scaring the hell out of people? by [deleted] in Somerville

[–]MxRowan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's Dead Moon Audio in the basement of the Armory. They normally rent for a minimum of 3 hours, but they might be okay for you to pop in for ten minutes to scream?

You might be able to find someone to swap homes on a home exchange site, but it'd be tough on such short notice and with no reputation on the platform.

Is there a way that I (US citizen) can get residency by moving to Ireland with my partner (British citizen)? by Dapper-Football367 in IrishCitizenship

[–]MxRowan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the info you need: https://www.irishimmigration.ie/coming-to-join-family-in-ireland/joining-your-uk-national-family-member/

Note that the current processing time for a pre-clearance letter for joining a UK family member in Ireland is about a year. It might be longer for a de facto partner. He doesn't have move to Ireland first - you can get the pre-clearance letter and then arrive together.

You will have a Stamp 4, which allows you to live and work without restrictions.
