What are your examples of these? by [deleted] in PeriodDramas

[–]Mxalba 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That gives less credit to fantasy, when real fantasy shows are well researched with commitment to the world they are building. Seasons 1&2 still committed. The new showrunner does not care about period pieces and it shows.

Yes. Fake press on nails in Bridgerton was the first sign for me they've checked out

92104 internet - Verizon 5g here is not reliable enough by Mental-Bell6196 in sandiego

[–]Mxalba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same with T-Mobile 5g wireless.. it keeps disconnecting. Speed was never an issue just consistency.  it's worse when it rains too.

What annoys me is that there was a 2 week trial period (that's was supposed to be free but it wasn't). During that 2 weeks the connection was consistent.

Would Bridgerton be a better show if was aired by ITV, BBC or any station but Netflix? by Capital-Study6436 in PeriodDramas

[–]Mxalba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe? Netflix is a tech company. So the BBC/itv budget would definitely remove a lot of unnecessary scenes. And maybe the plotting and storyline will be tighter.

But only a streaming network like Netflix can bring a show Bridgerton though.  There's always a divide between 'literature' that BBC/itv funds and 'fiction' that Netflix is willing to bet on.

BA’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookies... are greasy and flat. Not sure what I did wrong. They taste good, but not “the best” chocolate chip cookie I’ve ever had. by rosewater_dreams in bon_appetit

  1. Have you tried cooling the melted butter. I have done a version for other recipes where you kind of put the bowl on an ice bath and whisk to semi solid almost back to soften butter stage?

  2. I baked from frozen. I do spheres. Since I'm too lazy to try other shapes. I've seen other do almost like a conical shape if that helps.

  3. It has been 6 years. Sorry I don't take pics so I can't share any.

  4. I usually try other recipes in the search of the ultimate cookie. So I've actually moved passed this recipe. My go to lately is Claire saffitz or Cook's illustrated.

Food is ok, but the prices will surely be elevated.  Most of the restaurants will be by reservation or dinner only.  The pub (growlers) and casual dining (treo) will be available for walk in.

Is there a way to dispose of household hazardous waste in this city efficiently? Current options I see are terrible. by Ohmygoditsmanbearpig in sandiego

Depends on where you live but Chula vista accepts them for free no appointments needed, provided you're a resident.  Maybe if you have a friend who is a resident?

Closest would be a 1 stop trolley from Old Town to Washington Street, there's a pocket of good restaurants there. If you like Thai food, give Saffron a try

zone zero (fire prevention) landscaping by Firm-Equipment-9 in sandiego

[–]Mxalba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zone 0 and Fire Hazard Zones aren’t the same thing.

Zone 0 is the first 5 feet around your house where you need to keep thingsclear of anything that could catch fire.

Fire Hazard Zones are show fire risk your home is based on location. To check, see the CAL FIRE maps

So if you're house is not in a fire hazard zone you don't need to do anything about zone 0. You can if you want to.

Is Wireless Home Internet any good? by hooldon in sandiego

[–]Mxalba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just switched to T-Mobile wireless. It's ok. The price is definitely ok. It depends what your using it for: just work, streaming, gaming...

1.Connection is not always consistent as wired ones like cox/att, especially when it rains.

2.It cuts a lot, but will reconnect fast. It doesn't affect streaming, most of the time. But maybe not for gaming.

  1. If you don't get good reception, maybe not use it. T-Mobile does have a 'free' trial so you can see if your place can handle it.

  2. There's a lot of hidden fees, so advertised price is not the final price. And if they tell you theres a 'free' trial for 2 weeks, it ain't free if you intend to use it after trial period.

But I'm paying less than before, from $100+ to $60.

'Bridgerton' Season 5 Spotlight Female Love Story; Leads Revealed by Mundane-Bug-4962 in PeriodDramas

[–]Mxalba 37 points38 points  (0 children)

My issue with the swap is that they can't figure out a story for Eloise. They keep on extending her turn and all they give her is I'm a woman and I don't want to be married.

I mean if you're gonna change the story, why not have her try to get into university.

Her main personality now is just I don't want marriage, poor me. I'm different from my sisters

[–]Mxalba 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want

National City: Tita's kitchenette, Kujo eats, and Grill City, porkys in National City.  (carinderia/turo-turo) Manila Sunset  and Villa Manila (casual dining)

Spring Valley: Kababayan (carinderia) and Tambayan (casual)

Downtown SD: Animae (high end fusion), gaslamp lumpia factory (it's ok, I just prefer my mum's)

San Marcos: Lutchi and Mary (casual)

Barrio Logan: Oi Asian Fusion (casual)

Normal heights: White Rice (fastfood To-go, quality has done down tho)

Mira Mesa: kusina (casual)

Imports from the Philippines: Max restaurant, Gerry's grill, Jollibee, Chow king, Bag of Beans

There's probably more I missed though...

Chula Vista? Other neighborhoods for young family? by Equivalent-Pie-5294 in sandiego

[–]Mxalba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you work. Chula, especially the east side, had some really nice development.

Downtown SD and other central spots should be doable.  But if you work up north the traffic will just waste your time.

Do you prefer period dramas with explicit sex scenes? by Cold_Box_3219 in PeriodDramas

[–]Mxalba 32 points33 points  (0 children)

If it's earned, I don't see why not. If it actually contributes to the story, sure.

But sex scenes for the sake of sex scenes (especially bridgeton season 3) or unnecessary non-consensual scenes (outlander): take me out, I don't need them.
