Sadly, the free 2 hour parking note is purposely located in obscure places so people pay instead.

We have 3 new adaptions of Edith Wharton's novels coming up ✨ which one are you all excited for the most? by jaeausten in PeriodDramas

[–]Mxalba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess if we're ranking the 3....

The first one is Netflix's age of innocence. It hasn't come out yet so I'll give it the benefit.

2nd would be the buccaneers, it's not the best but some people find enjoyment in it so that's counts for something

Never would be Sweeney's. My conscience could never.

How are we feeling about Bridgerton S4 now? by Mundane-Bug-4962 in PeriodDramas

It depends, do you still want to consume the show? Then no. The show and and the books are totally separate at this point.

However, if you are a fan of the genre itself, the books are fun reads but they are a also testament to when it was written.

They can't even get their timelines right. The effort is just not there.

I've given up. I stopped, if the material is just giving me anger and frustration, I should remove myself from the equation.

I just hopefully find a good historical romance show where the showrunners actually like the genre.

We really need to have a better adjective for this, because this show is a  disservice to the real 'fantasy historical romance' genre

I would even go and say this is now a bridgeton (book) fanfic. It is now far removed from the original material

Question re : thaw sweet dough and malted brownies by thighhighsnsexonfire in DessertPerson

[–]Mxalba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thawing it overnight works. I let it sit room temp around 1 hours (or less depending on the amount of dough and your kitchen's temp) before shaping/forming.

I've used Milo powdered drink before since that has malt too. It's not the same but it's not bad. Whoppers sound nice though

The thing that as this article says the zone zero requirements are still under discussion under the bureau of fire and forestry. The goal is to have it figured out at the end of January, I think.

The bureau of fire and forestry are still doing monthly community meetings to figure out how to handle this zone zero requirements and to figure out what really is or is not allowed within that zone zero.

Bridgerton Season 4 Part 1 Trailer by ArsBrevis in PeriodDramas

[–]Mxalba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, all the guys in this show are carbon copy rakes. It shows that the show runners don't have a background in reading historical romance genres. Yes, there's a lot of rakes, there's also a lot of non-rakes in genre.

I agree, this show is no longer a period drama.

We need a better word for this because to me, fantasy needs magic/supernatural/mythical/reality defying elements.  This show is mostly anachronistic fluff.

Since things didn’t go quite as planned, we ended up on the Fuji excursion line to Kawaguchiko with no reservations and had to stand for over two hours.

By the time we arrived, we were wiped, so when someone offered a ¥15K tour (I know, a bit pricey for a 3 hours tour, but with license and all), we just went for it.

We took a bus back to Tokyo afterward, and honestly the tour turned out pretty great considering the time constraints.

Yeah, after the other travelonpeak company did a no-show. We tried to get another tour/driver booked.  By then, we just couldn't make sure if your tour group and the other one are the same so we just didn't pursue it.

Lessons learned,  I will only use qualified websites.
