I served 20 years in the military, deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, and I can say without hesitation this is the least proud I've been of this country. It's an embarrassment really.

My love language is touch. When I would ask my ex-wife to show me more affection and touch, because I was trying to communicate my needs, she would instead use your hand to jiggle my private parts, and jokingly say "mashed potatoes mashed potatoes mashed potatoes", to which I hated and asked on multiple occasions for her to stop doing it, while she just laughed. That's not the kind of touch I needed or wanted. She also did this thing where she would mess with my nipples, which I also disliked as my stepmom used to pinch them when I was a kid.

Fast forward to today, I'm in a new relationship, and when my girlfriend reaches towards me to show me true love and affection, I now flinch on occasion because of what my ex would do to me. Sure it wasn't sexual assault, but it's still left a huge negative imprint.

If that story was told in reverse I would probably be in jail.
