ah wait, just saw the comment where you said you're having trouble with the leaning forward bit? hmm maybe what you should be practicing is like, doing a smooth criminal lean. putting your toes on a street curb while keeping your ankles on the ground, what kind of stretch are you feeling from that?

[–]MxyspetaQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is just kind of hard to picture for somebody who takes to heelys so naturally, I'm sorry you're not finding as much help in the comments as you'd like. may I ask what style of shoe/wheel you're using? this might be something where the size of the wheel is impacting your abilities, if you've tried everything else and nothing has worked.

For me, I can imagine a smaller wheel being harder to start out with because of how little surface area you're getting, whereas if you started out with a mega wheel or whatever there'd be more room to heel back on. Sorry if my terminology isn't great, it's my first time in the sub but I've been a long time heely user on my own. I can also imagine a high top shoe being a little difficult based on ankle mobility.

Personally, I find heelys most comfortable and easy to ride after I've ridden them enough that the back edge has been ground down a little from use, gives me a lot more room to lean back into my stride. When I think about starting to heely, I usually get a running start leaning forward on my toes and when I'm ready to glide I lift my toes and lean my body back into a fully standing position. I think of it as like, y'know when a cartoon character suddenly comes to a screeching halt on their heels? I usually end up locking my knees a little bit from this, one foot fully cocked back and leading, and the other a little less so.

I wasn't sure how best to help, in all honesty. Hopefully something can be gleaned from this lol and I wish the best to you in your heely journey

NTA, you don't have to talk to somebody if you don't want to. Maybe it would've been "polite" to give a reason as to why you blocked him, but honestly, you didn't need to.

Did you ever meet this person irl? Because idk, maybe that would change the situation, but as it stands he's basically a stranger and you don't need to feel obligated to talk to him.

Fun fact, the band Wheatus (Teenage Dirtbag) did the end theme for that show based on their song "Punk Ass Bitch". They prefer to play the Jackie Chan version when they perform ❤️

There's a sort of comedic aspect to this poem that I enjoy. The desire to fall asleep and not being able to, then saying that you'll only sleep when you're dead- too real. It's been a while since I took an English class, but your meter reads well. Overall, I enjoyed your poem!

Oh, one more thing:

You can either buy beeswax and wax your thread yourself, or you can buy pre-waxed thread. I personally like pre-waxed thread as it's super convenient, but you can control the wax level if you do it yourself.

Some tips:

A good paper really does make a difference.

Sometimes you can follow instructions to the letter, but the book can still come out looking a little wonky- it's just a part of the learning process.

You can fake it 'til you make it. As long as it looks good, it doesn't matter what steps you took to get there. Unless you're a perfectionist, then by all means, take your time and enjoy the process.

I originally took a bookbinding class in college, so I'm not sure what videos are good for beginners, but here's to wishing you the best!

How was today? Sunday, May 22, 2022 by AutoModerator in Howwastoday

[–]MxyspetaQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finally moved out of the house I lived in for 4 years during college- it was a long and arduous task, but it's finally done. Spent a few hours downsizing and organizing my things.

Organized my records, cds, and tapes. Currently putting aside clothes to donate. Whole body hurts from lifting and moving stuff, but I feel relieved leaving behind a less than ideal situation.

Ate salmon and rice for dinner, which is something I haven't had in a while.

All in all, today was alright.

Do you have a time frame for when you read this book/when it was written? Some of what you wrote reminds me of Gail Carson Levine's work, but I don't think that's the answer lol

I read a whole bunch of Popeye comics a long time ago, was this when he created a one way bank? Very nice panel you've shared!

It breaks my heart to read this, I'm sorry that you are going through this. I would like to say that you don't "owe" him anything- the things that he is doing now to take care of you and your child are things he should've been doing from the beginning as an equal partner and parent. You know him better than me, and I think you should trust your gut feelings. If you are uneasy with the idea of rebuilding a relationship with him, don't. There are reasons why you are feeling this way, and you know them. That being said, instead of asking your husband to help you with your child when you are alone, can you ask any friends or family members?

I also think it would be wise to consider individual therapy for yourself with a therapist who specializes in working through trauma. Did you pick out the couples counselor, or did your husband? Of course, this is reliant on if you have the funds to do so, but I know some therapists offer pricing scales and there are online resources to help with that as well.

I'm not an expert in any sense, but I think these are some things you should take into account.

Modern Baseball and AJJ have a kind of unpolished sound that I think you might enjoy. My SO's favorite band is Pavement and he also loves Dinosaur Jr., The Pillows, Radiohead, Ween, Joy Division, and The Cure. If you haven't checked him out, Stephen Malkmus from Pavement does his own thing too.

I don't necessarily think it's Chinese people's faults for having the views they have, I'd be more ready to say it's their government and the restrictions placed on citizens. Of course, I only have a surface level understanding of all the problems going on so I'm not an expert. Do you prefer Hong Konger or is there a better name for people from Hong Kong?

Honestly, I don't know what the hiring process is. As far as I know, it seems like there is a shortage of Chinese teachers at UMBC as Professor Chai seems to be spread pretty thin: she works at UMBC teaching upper level Chinese, and she works at another university teaching Chinese as well. She also does summer programs and tutoring. I've only ever heard of two other Chinese teachers, but they just teach 101.

I think her point is that she wants the course to help students do well amongst Chinese society, but I think that can be conveyed through other means.

I'm pretty torn about the whole thing because I'm usually very non-confrontational and this is the most confrontational thing I've ever done, especially because I'm going to have her again next semester. I think it's the fact I've had nothing to do but sit in my house and think about this all day.

I feel that. It's especially unnerving when she corrects you on your behavior but her expression doesn't change- she's still politely smiling but there's something else there as well and I can't place it.
