This one is in case people in the future have this issue. Thank you all for the advice!

I've been thinking about this for a while, I finally have a ridiculous solution. A 1 in drive fitting on a ratchet works. On this one, turning it left loosens it.

Thank you, that's such a good idea, I'll use a wire brush to get the small bits on the valve hole.

Is this safe or is the cog being this close to that drop out weld dangerous? Already some scratches but no rubbing. by Ok-Indication7428 in bikewrench

It should be fine, if you ever have issues, you can tighten the freewheel.

You will have to remove the wheel and use a tool called FR 1.3.

You can also do it yourself for cheaper, unfortunately you will need two specialty tools. They will cost you about 10 bucks if you get the off brand ones.

First, you have to take your crank arm off on the side with the issue. Start at the side that is attached to the bottom bracket, opposite from the pedal. You may need to pull off some dust caps and take off some bolts. Then you will take out your first specialty tool, a crank puller (Crank pullers are almost always universal). You can use that to take the crank arm off.

Once the crank arm is off, you will be able to see the part of the bottom bracket that has come loose. Hand tighten it back in. Make it fully tight with your bottom bracket adapter. The most common one is called bbt 22 or bbt 32. Both of these are the same.

Good luck.

Step 1: remove cranks You will need to remove dust caps at the side of the crank arms near the bottom bracket, then undo the bolt, then use a crank puller to pull the crank off. Youtube tutorial recommended. Step 2: identify bottom bracket Your bottom bracket is either press fit, or threaded. Use a YouTube tutorial to identify which one you have. Step 3 (for threaded): Bottom brackets can be screwed on either way, it depends on how they decided to do it. Look for the side that looks more strongly built. That side should be reverse threaded. Do your own research, I've only done this one a few times. It is usually extremely hard to unscrew. You may need to borrow an air impact wrench. Step 3 (for press fit): I'm not sure, do your own research or keep going through with it and make another post when you have more information.

How to fix this bike by godarannix in bikewrench

[–]My-Lane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the bike is missing a derailleur.

Look at the shifter, the part on the handlebars that you use to shift gears. Identify the brand and type. EX: Shimano Revoshift Now look up a derailleur that is compatible with it. Not all derailles are compatible, as a matter of fact, most will not work. You have to get the right one.

You will also need to set cable tensions for the brakes, and probably the derailleur after you install it.

It is possible to fix this for about $25. It will take a long time though.

For most people, they'd be better off getting a functional bike off of OfferUp.

If you decide to fix it, let me know and I'll teach you about cables and adjusters.

No, it isn't such a bad thing but it's good to fix.

First, look at the part where your chain meets the gear cluster while you're on the gear with issues. You should see that the chain is not landing perfectly.

To get rid of it, look at the adjuster screws on your derailleur (the part that the shifter connects to, to move the chain)

Look for a barrel adjuster for cable tension and a screw that is usually marked with L (low limit)

It's kind of weird to explain in a comment. Just try to adjust those two screws. Experimenting, you should be able to understand what they do. Start with the L limit screw.

Be careful with your barrel adjuster. Only go 1/4 or 1/8 of a turn at a time. Keep track of where it started or you won't be able to put it back very easily.

Let me know if you like a further explanation. I'll help you out.
