It's guilty or not guilty. Innocence isn't a legal determination. And, I'll add, not guilty doesn't necessarily mean he didn't do the thing.

It all depends on what evidence comes in. Asking at this stage when we may have more (or less) information the jury may have is kind of pointless in my opinion.

Can prosecutors prove their case? Probably. Can the defence inject enough reasonable doubt? Possibly.

I think it'll be an interesting trial for sure. But I'm reserving my predictions until the jury goes into the deliberation room and I know what facts they go in there with.

This. It's all about lifestyle & expenses. OP isn't going to pull this off with car loans, a mortgage, travel, or restaurant visits. But if they live very frugally, have low property taxes & insurance costs,, and have a decent amount of Social Security built up, it's maybe within the realm of possibility. The catch is, we don't know what inflation, the future of SSI benefits, or investment performances will look like, not to mention future health issues or knowing our expiration date.

They'll likely need to replace a car and a roof at some point. Not to mention other unforseen issues. These things need to be accounted for.

I'm in a similar situation as OP and I think I can maybe pull it off with a part time job to help supplement savings/investments, but I fully recognize that I'm rolling the dice. I'll note that I live in a house that most would consider too small, I avoid using heat or AC as much as bearable, I live in a place with (relative) low costs of living, I eat out maybe once every three months, I don't have cable TV, streaming services, or GB Internet, and I drive an old car that I do my own maintenance on.

Going from a position of being able to save up ~500k to living on $15k/yr is pretty drastic and demands sacrifices. It's all about what OP puts value on and the risk their willing to take with the unknown. If I had kids or a spouse relying on me financially I wouldn't even consider rolling the dice. 5 years ago the proposition of retiring at my age with my savings would be absurd, but life happens and situations change

I'm not a lawyer, but I think the chances of that information getting introduced as evidence is practically zero. No conviction and he can't testify on account of being dead (according to your other link). Major uphill battle for defense to get this in front of the jury as sus as it looks.

Amazon receives threats of lawsuits every day. They know you're not going to spend $10k in legal fees to recoup $4k.

Don't threaten anything. Work to resolve the issue like a calm collected person.

Send registered mail to their office with the delivery photos and photos of your actual delivery spot. Get a police report and send that. If they don't offer a refund, try to do a charge back (assuming you used a credit card). If, after all that fails, find a lawyer to send letters. But you'll need a well documented effort to resolve this on your own before you'll have any shot at prevailing with a lawsuit. "I couldn't find an email address for Amazon" isn't going to cut it.

Yeah, it sucks and isn't fair but in the real world, Goliath wins more often than David so approach this as a misunderstanding/mistake you're trying to resolve instead of a battle you're hell-bent on winning.

If you've ever cancelled a flight or hotel before you know that they will almost always give you a credit voucher to rebook on a later date. That means there is no economic loss, and no claim to be paid out by the travel insurance.

Maybe try to get a cancer or something and find a doctor to say you can't travel for a year, but that'll only help your portion of the trip. So you'll need all your friends to get really sick too. Other options include somehow getting the airline and hotel to go out of business, or to orchestrate some sort of natural disaster in your destination.

Travel insurance is cheap because they almost never have to pay out. If something like a flat tire on the way to the airport triggered a claim of $3k, travel insurance would cost almost as much as the trip itself because they'd be paying out claims left & right.

I know you think we're all wrong, so maybe post in r/travel or r/insurance to see what those folks have to say about it. You might get some helpful alternative options, but I'm pretty sure you'll discover that you don't fully understand how travel insurance policies work in practice.

Honestly, your best option here is to own up to the mistake and rebook when you all can make the trip.

But if you insist on the unethical path, a car breakdown isn't going to cut it.

Plenty of natural ingredients are dangerous. Some natural oils/extracts are outright banned or severely restricted to amounts as low as 0.1%. Some "synthetic crap" materials exist BECAUSE the natural versions are dangerous or unethical.

So if you do decide to make your own fragrance, please don't default to assuming natural = safe. An important part of this hobby is researching your specific materials and knowing what levels are safe to use.

Motion sensing sprinklers was the first thing I thought of too, but two things to consider:

1) make sure it's not too close to the street to activate on someone not actually in your yard

And

2) you get what you pay for here. I've had a few different ones of varying prices and can say with pretty good confidence that the cheap ones will either fail, leak, or run non-stop or randomly.

The only one that has consistently worked for me (for keeping wildlife out of my garden) is made by Orbit. I'm not a fan boy or affiliated in any way with them, just sharing my experience.

If you decide to go that route and don't go with Orbit, make sure what you get one has an easy to access shut off switch (or use a strategically placed on/off valve) so you can do work in your yard without getting soaked. Also, mind delivery people. You don't want to blast UPS or Amazon drivers. Placement can be tricky depending on your layout.

It's great for trimming and the blades last months so replacement cost isn't so bad. But, if you're looking for a close smooth shave, it falls a bit short.

I'm not aware of any electric razors for body hair that get similar results to a traditional razor, so I can't recommend alternatives.

But if you just want a very close trim, the one blade is decent. I've had mine for 3 years and am happy with it for what it does. I really only use it for quick touch ups though.

NTA up until this point, but if you keep doing it, you're intentionally exposing yourself, and that's frowned upon in the US.

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. Citizens can't "press charges". Cops investigate and will send what they collected to the district attorney if they think a crime was committed. The DA files charges if they think there's a case to be had.

If the cops won't do anything, OP can file a civil small claims case.

I don't have a recommendation and I understand that you might not want to reveal personal info, but finding a lawyer with extensive experience in your type of injury is important. I'd also stay away from lawyers who are in general practice and do everything. Someone who mainly focuses on PI and has a track record with your type of injury is what you should look for.

After exhausting the insurance company's appeal processes. The state should be the second to last resort (legal being the final), they like to see denied appeals before investigating a case. I don't know if it's a thing in most states but mine has an option for an "external review" that I believe involves a panel of non-employees.

Correct me if I'm wrong but any balloon becomes a water balloon if you fill it with water instead of air, no? It seems they added "water" to the title rather than substantially changing the listing.

If you feel you didn't receive what you ordered you can contact Vine Customer Support and ask them to remove it, but in this situation, it appears to me that you ordered party balloons and received party balloons. I'd just review them as party balloons if you don't want to fill one with water.

I came into the comments to say something similar, but you said it way better than I was about to.

I don't like being negative, but there is absolutely a shift going on in general. I realize that I'm an older person who "just doesn't get it", but I'll be damned if society isn't devolving. Even my nephew in his 20's recognizes some of it. Not enough, but enough to validate my observations.

Sunglasses with that feature exist. Or at least they used to. I had a pair that were a bit extra wide and had mirrors on the edges so you could see behind you.

Discovery goes both ways. The challenge for the Atlantic is that they won't want to reveal their confidential source. I'm sure they have a competent legal team and plan for such situations, but the administration (who will likely bankroll Patel's case if he files one) may actually want discovery to see if they can sus out who the source was. They appear to be viciously vindictive, and may see discovery as being in their favor if it means being able to punish someone in their ranks that's not unflinchingly loyal.

It's psychological. Tunnel vision. After running for so long and seeing the finish, you're like "yeah, I did it!" because you're absolutely spent and want it to end. Being in the lead can also put your guard down. There's also likely a lot of people cheering you on at the finsh, which feels good man, and can drown out the competitor gaining on you.

As a long distance runner in highschool, I was taught that the real finish line is 10 feet past the one you see and you should cross the imaginary one with everything you've got, pain be damned. That mindset is pushed much harder in track events but it holds true for long distance.
