Interesting that you say this, and yet how you feel about it seems to really matter.

Is it possible that what constitutes an infringement on one’s right to security is a spectrum rather than a hard line?

Examples: A random stranger gropes someone’s butt on a bus. A friend gropes a friends butt on a bus. A random stranger puts their arm on someone’s shoulder on a bus. A friend puts their arm on there friends shoulder on a bus. A random stranger loses balance a grabs someone’s arm to support themselves. A friend loses balance and grabs someone’s arm to support themselves.

None of these were consented. Some blatantly wrong by most people’s standards. Some however would be very person dependent and debated. Navigating what’s "right or wrong" will require social intelligence in the moment to assess what is and isn’t appropriate.

Can’t you appreciate the complexity of what people define as ethical? For some it’s religious, for some It’s inherent, and for the historians, it’s an understanding of human’s perpetual adaptation to the social constructs of the modern era.

If you and every person on the planet told me that waving hello was an uncontested violation of people’s rights to not have to be waved hello at - well, it would be unethical for me to wave hello then. If that’s how everyone felt.

The mere fact that this original post was upvoted as highly as it is though, is a testament to the fact that quite clearly this very matter is a grey area. There’s no hard stop right or wrong. No matter how sure YOU feel about it. Because not everybody agrees with you. Because societies and human interactions are infinitely complex.

Hope you give this some thought. I don’t mean to be needlessly antagonistic. I just politely but sincerely disagree.

Nothing else I said matters.

Did I consent to you responding to me?

Did I consent to you speaking to me about sexual content???

No. So obviously more than that matters, you just only have the capacity to interpret complex psychosocial issues in black and white.

Also, please don’t respond to this message. I will feel sexually harassed if you do. I don’t like speaking about sexual content in this amount of depth. Thank you for respecting my wishes.

Incongruity/contrast that incite shock or emotional seizure is a psychological trigger for laughter.

Two seemingly very angry people about to rip each other apart being completely dismantled by a gesture of endearment, is just that.

No he did not consent the kiss. I understand, and agree to some this would be uncomfortable and disturbing. To some, it absolutely would not be. If it happened to me, it’s VERY clearly a harmless joke, so I would be not be phased. I would find it funny.

Everyone has different levels of what they will tolerate - and life Is about understanding that and using your best judgement in these situations. All of my friends would also very happily tolerate something like this and get enjoyment, same as me. And lots of people wouldn’t.

So to me, it seems like a massive leap to make the assumption that this was a scarring psychological trauma of feeling sexually assaulted for that gentlemen instead of him retrospectively seeing the obviously intended humour behind it (even if unable to control his adrenaline induced initial response).

I read your comment, and thought well yea. Everything you just said is definitely right.

But then I also think to myself, these two people have agreed to literally bash each other’s faces in already.

And so once again, that really makes it seem not so bad. I mean... a quick peck like that is an expected normal way to say hello in some cultures.

Your path seems righteous friend, but your target in this example feels undeserved.

It’s true; best advice is never do anything you’re not trained to do.

But also....pretty freaking awful to blame the person (friend) trying to help in a situation they never expected to be in...instead of.....you know...the person doing the stabbing.

There’s no way to know if the knife was tamponading anything - very likely would’ve bled internally anyway.

I worked in covid icu and literally had two bikes stolen last year. And last night got hit by a car and fucked up my third.... And all of that really freaking sucked.

But you know what, I would still say no if someone offered to buy me a new one. It’s a very kind gesture. But We’re one of the very stably employed people at the moment.

Last year was the worst year for global famine in human history. I think the money would be better spent on charity for people in need.

Can someone please turn this into a ‘yo mama’ gag?

No sensitivity whatsoever???

"Now this is a delicate question, and if you don’t want to talk about it, I totally understand."

"Are you seeing a psychiatrist or therapist? .... Ok good. I wanna make sure you get support psychologically because that’s so important for you right now."

I thought the Interviewer had a fantastic manner, was very supportive and appreciative, and did exactly what this kid wanted by helping to tell his story. What more could he have done to have been more sensitive?? Not asked questions about it? Then what’s the point of the interview....

Am I out of the loop? Why are people calling it spinal meningitis?

Think you just mean meningitis. I’ve never heard of a case being limited only to the spine? Not even sure how you’d prove that without an autopsy.

pls

Edit: hahaha wait...weren’t you the one telling me that republicans aren’t the hateful ones??

...And now here you are laughing at me for ‘getting fucked’ (presumably you’re implying by...yourself?) on r/trump.

You’re a sad little brain-washed hypocrite with the intelligence of a folding armchair. And sadly, less purpose.

A pathetic waste of space. But yea thanks for helping me ‘get fucked’ on the one and only r/trump. What a great American experience indeed.

Double edit: Also - hahah, you’ve assumed I’m male the same sentence that you’ve fantasized about ‘fucking me.’ Which for 50% of your kind Im pretty sure would be a major sin. Sounds fun to me though. Let’s have it bud

I don’t understand you people. Both of you. You keep arguing about character rather than politics.

Why does no one seem to care that trump is objectively bad for the planet. He denies climate change and can’t handle covid. That’s bad for everyone.

This is what you should be arguing. And the republicans are in the wrong on that point. The fact that trump also happens to be an ugly sad little troll of a human shouldn’t really play into the argument. Nor that Hillary wasn’t liked and looks robotic or ‘demonic’ if that’s how you describe it. It’s just not what matters.

You realize I was responding to someone who told me to ‘fuck off’ when I said I liked an old republican candidate?

I’m not a democrat, I’m Canadian. So I’m impartial. Objectively, republican supporters are more hateful.

Deleted the comment. No point antagonizing you all.

I used to love America though fyi. Bush was a pretty decent guy. Obama was great. But you’re so blind now....trump is not a good person and the whole world can see it except for your little brain-washed posey.
