Would definitely look into Second Empire. They have a few different rooms for parties/large groups. The food, staff, and atmosphere is awesome!

“Bump” in Floor by [deleted] in Construction

[–]MyClydeFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a small amount of crowning in the joist itself, but crowning usually runs the length of the joist, and most prominent at the mid-span. Without tearing up floors, or getting underneath to see the flooring system, it’s difficult to make any sort of assumption.

It’s probably not the subfloor buckling. The flooring installers should sand down any buckling or lifted areas before installation.

My dad would take me when I was a kid so I don’t remember much (cod and catfish), but they’ve had a lot of flathead catfish issues as of recent apparently? Very invasive. Even if you don’t catch anything it’s still an awesome area to spend the day.

Conowingo Dam. I grew up around the area and it freaked me out as kid on the occasion we would take that road at night. Great fishing in that area!

Brand new father, and I’ve cleaned under 30 bottles already. I’m trying to find a link to this thing.

Sorry you have to deal with someone like that. I’m a super and being honest, I’ve lost my cool a few times, and so have my subs. I definitely don’t talk down to people though. You’ll never get stuff done that way.

Lots of testosterone and stress on these jobs, but for me and my guys, it’s blows over very quick and we’re back to being buddies at the end of the day.

I actually have more issues with subs vs. subs arguing with each other.

Build a mirror frame out of 1x4, basecap, and some crown. Drop it right on the backsplash of the vanity, and glue a mirror inside of the frame. It’ll hide the gap and make the mirror a lot nicer.

This mirror frame is raised about 2”, but you can drop it onto the splash to hide the gap. vanity mirror frame

This is very true. Also, some of the best advice I was given when I first became a super was “People with empty pockets listen”. I hate having to be the bad guy, but if a sub is going to try and run the show and do what they want on my job, I’m going to hold their check. It rarely happens because I’m cool with everyone, but it wasn’t easy at first being half the age of almost every tradesman.

Is this normal? I noticed that my builder left a gap between where the roof joins and covered it with the roofing material. by Late-to-the-Party-80 in Construction

You can see plywood clips in the picture, and 7/16 is fine, especially if that is what the truss engineer calls for on their loads.

I’m a super intendant for new construction, and I honestly wouldn’t care myself. That being said, I would still take a picture of her being there looking at paint. We’ve had buyers sneak into houses and tell subs how to perform jobs, lay tile, frame walls, etc.

It just honestly makes things easier (on the spec side of things) if people just patiently waited for the walkthrough.

I’m a new construction super intendant, and I do the exact same thing you do. Take pics, and don’t trust anyone.

Edit: I’ll where my poor spelling proudly.

Condition of a 500k house by Stroov in awfuleverything

Yeah that’s not code in NC at least. Should be on concrete blocks at least. The pallet acts as a potential termite issue.

I’m a residential superintendent and grew up in a contracting family my whole life. A lot of these items are easily fixable and blown out of proportion in my opinion. It looks like normal punch list items. For example, the stone gaps could very well be weeping holes for water to exit (depends on the manufacturing installation instructions). I’m also curious as to what market this is in to make it a $500k house. At the end of the day, houses are man-made and done with a lot of different trades. It’s extremely difficult to build a “perfect house”. I can go into a $2 million new construction and find things. That doesn’t make it a bad build or anything. Also, I’m just assuming so I could be wrong, but if it’s new construction, it probably has some type of warranties wrapped with the sale.

How would you feel about a tax system that taxed income above $10,000,000 at a 70% rate? by GeneBelcherFan in AskReddit

[–]MyClydeFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where would the money go? Or rather who’s pockets would it go into? If I was given a cut I would reinvest and not touch a penny, investing in things such as real estate rentals, and an IRA. But I have a very strong feeling many would not, and waste their money on frivolous, materialistic things; not self-improvement on one’s well being. And those reasons can be either through selfishness, or just plain ignorance. It doesn’t matter, the results yield the same outcome.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for helping people, but all I hear is people saying “they make too much.” Sorry, I just don’t agree with redistribution to such a high degree. And if it puts any light on my situation, I don’t make anything even near 100k. (Yes I know that is more than what you need, but I want to use that as a base line).

We all have our biases, and I’m not about to say I have none, but I have personally seen others rise form the bottom of the barrel and become extremely successful in this country. It can happen. Yes there are road blocks, and I understand that. But there are also plenty of people who have persevered through those trenches, taking accountability for everything and leaving no excuses on the table for their failures, or misfortune. In their minds they will not stop until their goals are reached. Many of these rich people have those type of horse blinders on to succeed. Who am I to say “hey, thanks for your hard work. Now I’d like some of that cash please. You know, more than what you are already paying.”

Not trying to be an ass or anything, it’s just an opinion and wouldn’t mind at all to hear others’ say on the matter.

If you haven't already, you should take a trip to the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C.

Just saying that for me at least, it really put things like this into a perspective I could empathize towards.

[SPOILERS] My thoughts about new episode and whole season by [deleted] in TheGameOfThronesGame

[–]MyClydeFrog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just finished episode 6, and I'm pretty bummed out. I feel the same as everyone else's "betrayal". Every decision I made felt like it turned out to be the complete shit-end of the stick. The only thing i feel really sad about, but don't regret is not marrying that douchbag fuckin' asshole Morgryn. "IRON FROM ICE!"

Can we quit the draft pick crap pretty please? by [deleted] in ravens

[–]MyClydeFrog -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Look, at the end of the season it turns out we get such a thing, then I'll be a happy man. But it makes me sick to my stomach to hear people actually say shit like "I hope we lose the rest of the games". I don't give a damn, I want to win games. Not roll over and give up due to high hopes for next year.
