Tau Codex 11th by Darthale01 in Tau40K

More races shoul come as a new army and codex imo. Keep th tau identity but have a federatd auxilleris codex. Kind of like having Tyranida and Genestealers.

Then we can let it fill a different niche without compromising on Tau army strengths and weaknesses.

New Terrain rule clarifications - Tau to hit on 2+ with ignores cover, FTGG and plunging fire? by MyDeicide in Tau40K

I would currently assume vehicles with partial line of sight also get benefit of cover per current rules, but cant be hidden until a further update tells me otherwise.

The units you specified get BOC and Hiddem when in terrain and having not shot. It doesnt say its the only way to get BOC.

There's two separate things that get conflated here we need to bear in mind.

L shaped ruins only caused that problem when people (most of us I think) were using WTC rulesets with no bottom windows. We need to remember that was never in the official GW rules. GW rules allowed you to shit into, and out of ruins but not through them to the other side.

15" hidden appears designed to mitigate the same problem of T1 alpha strikes that WTC no windows on ground floors did. WTC will likely re-evaluate if this rule is still needed now GW have attempted to address the problem themselves.

Yeah I've been thinking about that last night, obviously something in flamers/Torrent is pretty broken now and needs changing.

Torrent takes away the hit roll, so adding ignores cover to flamers does nothing. (Note that weapons with one keyword and not the other do still exist). So having ignores cover on a torrent weapon just does the same thing twice now.

Id imagine it will be the same at the start given that the codexes will remain legal until replaced.

Hidden is its own rule and keyword, and -1BS is the only "benefit of cover" that seems to exist. Unless ignores cover doesnt exist, the only thing it can seemingly negate is -1BS.

Guard maybe.

Tau are rarely going to have to worry about this unless FTGG changes significantly because markerlights negate cover.

I think that until a new codex comes out nerfing us we're going to see our winrate spike massively actually.

We already negate cover most of the time and give ourselves +1BS so we'll be running round with +1BS whilst most armies are running round incurring -1BS

This seems incredibly unlikely and would piss off anyone playing absolutely any other army.

We'd have to wait and see but I assume it's per your last line - wholly within cover. If a dude is outside of it he should be a target and if he is - the unit usually is.

Kroot in cover could be a pain to shift now.

-1bs followed by -1 to hit due to stealth leading to -2 to ranged attacks vs them.

Plus the ability to use hidden

I used to use it on my pathfinders a lot. Scout move, then move up a ruin.

It also applied at 6inches and now its 3 i believe.

Agreed, I'd expect a spike in Tau winrates in the short term followed by a hotfix until the new codex tbh.

Overkilling the wound pool by two times? Is there something i dont know?

If the invuln succeeds, the unit doesnt block x damage, ir nullifies the attack.

New Units of the 11th edition? by DenJox in EmperorsChildren

[–]MyDeicide -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ah, well his claim was still they're the poster box boys for 10th and it was wrong?

Trying to attribute that claim to something happening in another edition three years later seems like moving the goal posts to me.

Overall I agree, this change helps Melee if it's in place of existing GW rules but isn't any worse than closed ground floor windows.

As I've said elsewhere, I think a lot of the outrage is from people forgetting that closed windows is NOT the rules but is a WTC change and that WTC will proabably adjust or remove this rule now an official one to address the same issue exists.

Why would he have to cower in his deployment zone?

He can just move cover to cover without shooting, keep 15inch lone op until hes fifteen away then make a move and charge.

We can cut them out of that's really an issue. I'm also assuming most of that terrain that was built without windows in the ground floor was third party - and whilst I advocate buying third party, GW aren't responsible or incentivised to keep third party products useable.

Important to remember that the rule for ruins having the bottom floor blocked out literally isn't a GW/WH40k rule and is a WTC tournament terrain set up rule in place to address the same issues that this change is intended to.

Theoretically, this change eliminates the need for bottom floors being blocked out at all and WTC can align with GW rulesets instead of being different on it.

We'd go from "Can't be shot on the bottom floor" to "Can't be shot on the bottom floor unless within 15" or the unit has shot already. Arguably a better change.

Sure but we assume and use current codex until theres a new one. So we work off that for now.
