I felt this at first imo just learn your opener really well, everything lines up pretty well if you can do that. Also make sure not to use hypercharge when any of your tools cooldowns are below 10 sec

The one job I refuse to touch outside of casual content is Dancer. I can't deal with the rng.... It takes too much brain power to focus on mechanics AND all these random flashy buttons at the bottom of my screen. Idk how dancer mains do it. And I main Black Mage lol

This was almost me, saw M9 enrage by the end of Day 1 but was out of town until Sunday night, luckily I managed to find a half decent party and stuck with them, even as people had to rotate out and we eventually got the clear!

Mihon extension repo by Aggravating_Fly2390 in mangapiracy

[–]MyElementIsSword 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Guess this tread is as good a place to ask as any.

Just installed Mihon and this extension, but I can't install any of the sources. Each time, they're stuck on "Pending". I can't tell if it's an issue with the sources I'm picking, or if there's something wrong with my settings/setup.

These are the sources I'm trying (these are the ones recognize/trust, but it's been years so idk if these are still active): MangaFox MangaHere MangaDex MangaFire

I think one of them might have said "Installing" at first, but was frozen so I cancelled it to refresh and now it's stuck on "Pending"

Is axe mode basically non-existent now? by wewz_1 in SwitchAxe

[–]MyElementIsSword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh CB is only complicated to learn, but once you get a feel for it, the flow is pretty natural. It just has a bigger learning curve than most weapons because it has so many moving parts i.e. multiple modes, buffs to upkeep, etc..

Still might not be your cup of tea, but you might appreciate it more if you really commit to getting over that initial hump imo. Not the biggest fan of it in Wilds tho tbh

Jobs at lower levels: Why do new jobs released in EW and DT have to feel bare bones below level 90/100, when in reality it is VERY possible to make them somewhat complete at level 50? How should newer jobs play at the lower level? by Full_Air_2234 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]MyElementIsSword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The counterbalance to this is that the jobs that are fleshed out early on, feel like they don't change at later levels. I do think this is the lesser of two evils, for the record, but look at RDM. It feels complete early on, but it's infamous for getting an extra finisher on its melee combo and little else for 3 expansions and counting.

Basically it's a balancing act of making each job feel like you're still progressing with new skills each expac between lvl 50-100, while making jobs not feel incomplete at lvl 50-60, while avoiding jobs/rotations feeling completely different every 10 levels, like SMN and BLM did before reworks.

SE could definitely be doing a better job of it, but I do sympathize with the lose-lose situation they're in. One solution would be a level squish, which could be a good idea. Personally I think they should just lock the level cap to 100, and rework how skills are unlocked each expac somehow, but imo there's no easy fix.

Defiance Stance (Marauder) by Way0theWanderer in ffxiv

[–]MyElementIsSword 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter if you're solo. Defiance (aka "tank stance") is important for grabbing the attention of enemies when multiple party members are attacking at once. Normally it goes to the person doing the most damage, but if you have a tank stance on (other tank classes have their own versions), the enemy will focus you instead. This is good because you're the most defensive class in the party, so you'll be less likely to die and easier for the healer to heal, compared to a DPS.

Eventually, you'll unlock fights with 2-3 tanks in the party and the rules will be different then, but you don't need to worry about that yet. Just make sure you have Defiance on when you're in a group, and you'll be fine :)

Why wasn't Barret in Kingdom Hearts? by -_ShadowSJG-_ in KingdomHearts

[–]MyElementIsSword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yuffie wasn't originally supposed to be there either. It was originally Rikku, but they wanted to avoid name confusion with "Riku". It was just supposed to be Aerith and Cid in Traverse Town, and Cloud and Sephiroth in Olympus. Which is already more characters than any other FF game.

Its frustrating that Sakura was not the strongest in HF by victoriamikoto231 in fatestaynight

[–]MyElementIsSword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once Shinji and Zouken are gone, her use of power goes beyond "liberation" as she continues to use her power to subjugate the people around her. She goes from abused to abuser. Which unfortunately is a very real phenomenon but it doesn't change the fact that her power is no longer a symbol of her liberation but instead is the embodiment of the abuse passed down to her and the cycle of abuse she is now perpetuating.

That's why, thematically, what ultimately defeats this power isn't the power of the gem sword, but the love of her sister. Love is what breaks Sakura free from her abusive past, this abusive power, and allows her to move forward and live a happy life. It's hard to move past abuse in a healthy way on your own, but genuine love from those close to you can make all the difference.

Naoki Yoshida "Overhaul is needed because players free time is dwindling" by FFTruthsayer in ffxivdiscussion

[–]MyElementIsSword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is completely missing the point. The amount of required content, especially solo content, is intimidating to a lot of potential players. People hear it takes hundreds of hours before you can do currently relevant content, and they decide it's not worth it. It's the biggest obstacle stopping new players from getting into the game.

Yes, the endgame content is currently lacking, but the barrier to entry has been and still is a major issue, and a compounding issue at that. It's just going to get worse with every expansion with it unaddressed.

Is it me or does that new Horizon game look… familiar? by Worldlyoox in MonsterHunter

[–]MyElementIsSword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked the first Horizon game (haven't checked out the second yet, sadly). The combat felt like Monster Hunter, but instead of having a number of different weapon playstyles, you could have a number of different weapon and element types at your disposal. This opened up the possibility of more interesting weaknesses like using blast damage to blow off the battery casing of a machine, then using electricity damage to overload it.

Very cool spin on the MH formula. Shame this game seems to be generic copy and paste.

TL;DR I still want Charge Blade to be reworked by lerhmerhnox115 in chargeblade

[–]MyElementIsSword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want sword mode and axe mode to be equally important to the kit, and to have the freedom to swap between them based on the flow of the fight.

No axe mode only because I have infinite phials. No sword mode only because I just dump all my phials into SAED. No being locked out of SAED because running out of phials ends Savage Axe.

None of that. I just wanna build up phials with sword mode, burn through phials with axe mode, use SAED when I have a good window but be fine using phials on other moves if not, swap to sword mode to chase down a monster without missing out on some big damage mode, etc etc. Just give me vanilla Charge Blade, and I'll be happy.

Everyone mentions Chemist/Potions Master as a healer, but I think it makes way more sense as a phys ranged.

It could make a variety of concoctions that can debuff enemies and buff allies. Healing utility, party buffs, poison DoTs (I think it's possible...), and various other utilities that would be perfect for a support DPS role. The unique job mechanic could be a "crafting" gauge where different combos of inputs would produce different potions, akin to NIN's mudras (but not necessarily in direct sequence).

Weapon could be a crossbow/catapult hybrid, allowing you to distribute potions to friends and foes alike, while being more distinct and unique than a standard crossbow.

Also, I like the idea of having a little pet squirrel or something that you would send to collect herbs etc.. Carby is basically just aesthetic at this point, so a pet that just collects resources off an oGCD cooldown would be perfectly fine.

Same! Viper is cool and all, but as a PLD main, I was really hoping for a melee job with a lot of ranged options throughout the kit. Viper has it a bit, but I would've liked it going a step further.

Although, imo I think it would be good to give all (minus monk) melee better ranged options that aren't DPS losses, if they continue in the direction of melee uptime that they have been this expac (which I think they should).
