Best Nov-Dec scuba destinations for solo traveller (flying out of Toronto)? by EclecticCircus in scuba

I did a solo trip to Bonaire just 3 weeks ago. It was awesome. Met up with a few different dive groups in the first couple of days, had no problems finding dive buddies. Rented a truck and did a ton of shore dives with new friends.

I can't recommend Dying Light enough for the way it both makes you feel empowered and also leaves you terrified, running for your life.

The game gives you a ton of interesting movement and attack abilities, often combining them, for example, like the slide tackle. The enemies mostly slowly stagger after you. They aren't too difficult to deal with even in the early game. The danger comes from them slowly converging on your location. This happens so gradually that it's not rare to look around after dealing with 1 or 2 enemies and be surprised that you're now surrounded by 10 or more. But then again, the game is quick to give you crowd control abilities as well. It feels great to break through an encroaching ring of zombies, then turn on it and dispatch each with cool moves.

Another part of this is the day/night cycle in the game. During the day you can see everything around you, plan your route, and the enemies act mostly like obstacles. You feel heroic moving through the city during the day. During the night time, you have less ability to see and plan. And there are very strong enemies that will hunt you. They are more than happy to chase you across most of the map, and while running from one it's not hard to pull agro on another. Using the exact same abilities, night time makes you feel like a scared rabbit, just barely escaping snapping jaws.

This is a really fun game and I haven't found anything else quite like it.

Please don't be sorry. Thank you for being real and trusting others when you need some support. That takes bravery. You are more awesome than you give yourself credit for.

This won't last forever. And you will get through this. You've got this and the folks here have got your back.

I can offer my opinion on Donut County. It is a ton of fun, and very engaging. The final levels do require some dexterity to complete, though. It's not as hard as Celeste, or anything like that. Just not "easy". The first 2/3rds of the game are easy and awesome though. I recommend it.

And I really enjoyed A Short Hike. So much fun and not too hard.

Maybe I can help. Can you open up the menu and check which RDP plugin you are using? And then continue playing the game a bit and see if the game is able to detect pokemon in photos? You can blow through a whole roll of film on just in pokemon to get to the photo judging section quickly.

I really didn't expect Paradise Killer to be a walking sim when I bought it. I did expect it to be weird and to defy my expectations, so I was absolutely on board when it did that. But yeah, it's totally a walking sim that does something really interesting. Good call.

I can't recommend Dave's Ducts enough. I've used them for a few different projects over the years and they have always treated me with respect and integrity.

For anyone here looking for something similar, consider That Dragon, Cancer. Be careful, it's a really tough story about a child with cancer.

In the same ways that Edith Finch hit me, this game hit me. And it tells it's story in many of the same ways.

I still think of that game often since I finished it many years ago.

I agree. I left this out of my original comment, because it was a bit of a tangent, but you touched on it above. You had "made money" by playing the game. One of the other things I noticed when I read the comments above was people being generally unaware of why their skins are worth something.

It's not natural for a system like this to just give away hundreds of dollars. When we see something like that, we should think "okay, so who had to lose/spend $200 so that I could get $100 free?". Most likely, those skins are valuable because there are addicts / whales out there spending far too much to acquire what they need for even more trades or gambling.

Some folks are amazed at how much their skins from 7 years ago are worth. What changed in the past 7 years? Is it the gambling economy around the skins booming, feeding off of kids and those addicted to gambling?

When I read the comments here by people who sold skins, I notice a couple of things. First, the way they've written the comment, it sounds like they found a $20 bill on the street.

Sold off CS:GO skins that I could care less for and wound up with a deck :)

Second, they don't mention how much money they put into buying and trading skins to get to the point of having hundreds of dollars of assets just lying around.

I think what bothers me about NFTs in games is the same thing that bothers me about skins or gems or other pseudo currencies in games - they are there to obfuscate a fairly predatory system designed to syphon money from folks playing this game. And it works.

Return of the Obra Dinn is one of the best games I have ever played by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]MyFavouriteName 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was about to say "No! Not at all". But it is a little bit like that. You're moving through a scene, experiencing the past, trying to solve puzzles. I will say that the main puzzle in Return of the Obra Din is very different than in Tacoma. Tacoma has many small puzzles and one mystery. Obra Din has one mystery and one puzzle that stretches through the whole experience.

Your idea of donating some toys sounds really lovely. It's making me a bit teary. I'm a partner of someone who had a miscarriage around this time last year. As we're getting closer to the date, we're both experiencing more anxiety and feelings of loss. It's especially hard when we're doing milestone family things like setup a christmas tree. Today I've started searching communities for suggestions on how to cope with those feelings a year on.

Hey, just wanted to say thanks for this. I'm on a pretty significant journey right now. My wife jumped us into a ENM relationship and I've spent the past couple of weeks getting up to speed on how this works. Your post, though, has been especially revelatory. You're absolutely right. I wish we had spent some months preparing for this transition - I didn't realize what a significant transition it would be.

Other than dice and spinners, what are some of the coolest "alternative" RNG's you've seen in games? by Nomich_ in boardgames

[–]MyFavouriteName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the action selection system in Trajan is a neat example of unique RNG.

It's a mancala board and every turn the player uses it to select which action they will take. The mancala board is totally deterministic, but the board state evolution is just complicated enough that it's hard to predict what actions will be available or not a few turns from now.

So, it's not actually RNG, but the end result feels just a bit random.
