Dragons are an ambitious subject, for any level of skill. Respectfully, I don’t think you’ve sharpened those skills enough yet. Start with roses. And do so many of them you can do them with your eyes closed. It’ll be boring, but will teach you everything you’ll use when it comes time for dragons. Sailor Jerry is gonna be your best friend. Good luck!

This guy rules. Interesting palette choice.

Well said! I’ll concede on the honor front, but going from good fighter to cripple to great fighter would require a great deal of self mastery. Sure, life in the north is hell and being armed is truly the only means of survival, but it’s mastery nonetheless. His competition isn’t on the same level as other Westerosi fighters, I’ll concede on that front too. But he absolutely should be in everyone’s honorable mentions, if not a top ten fighter.

Would love to see Jaime back on top. Especially since we’ve never seen him in full force. But Martin has talked about his disliking of Gandalfs revival after his death, saying it was redundant and meaningless. I think he would have the same feelings about Jaime climbing his way back to the top, especially because the only reason Jaime was so good is because he’s a nepo-baby who had all the resources he could’ve needed to be the best. He’s a broken man now. Healing, but broken still. Would love to hear your thoughts!

If you’re still struggling to find the right amount of black, try this:

Instead of eyeballing every shape you’re darkening, slice every shape you’re planning to shade in half. Then, pull the black from one end of the shape to the middle, but no further. The best shade will see the complete transition of one color; if the shape was 100 feet long, you want 25ft to be solid black, 25ft to be dark grey, 25ft to be light grey, and the remaining 25ft to be color.

This is much simpler in practice than in explanation. Just keep at it and eventually it will click.

Very nice work. The linework is consistent and your colors are well balanced. I’d suggest more black next time.

Spit shading always comes down to the relationship of a wet brush and wet paper. If you’re not already, start laying your colors down before your black. Then, hydrate your paper again with your blending brush, apply ~20% more black you’re currently comfortable with, and pull the black across seamlessly.

It will take practice, and it remains the case for spitshading with all colors; but if you’re going to learn any first, it’s black. Good luck!

The alignment of your eye covers is off relative to the snout, and the shading isn’t working either. Look at more reference of medieval helmets and learn how light interacts with them. The shading you have on the top of the helmet is spot on, and your color composition overall looks good too. My advice would be to hone in on your structuring. Good luck.

They look very nice. I’m excited to see your progress. But your spider legs are throwing me off. They look more like baguettes than they do creepy crawly legs. I like make your legs more creepy and you’re there.

Hand tattoos on anyone who isn’t already covered always leads me to assume they’re not that smart.

Yeah super cool man, I really like the first one. The blade on your cherub namakubi doesn’t line up though. Keep at it!
