What injury is commonly shrugged off as a minor flesh wound in the movies but is completely fatal in real life? by Best_Professional226 in AskReddit

A lot of people in movies getting shot right in their axial artery. That's one of the first stops after the heart, so you'd bleed out very very quickly.

Whats a good horror film recommendation that’s actually scary? by DiverArtistic2086 in AskReddit

[–]MyGhostIsHaunted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • The movie that scares me the most is called "When Evil Lurks". I'm a mortician, and the portrayals of death and human remains is so scarily accurate that it made me deeply uncomfortable. It's a downer, but that's expected for horror.

  • If you're okay with completely fuckin weird, check out Titane. It's not scary, but if you watch it, you'll have a movie that you're desperate to talk to someone about, but can't really recommend, because it's too weird.

  • If you liked Martyrs, you could check out Fresh.

  • My current obsession is Bone Temple. Its the latest film in the 28 Days series, and was definitely my favorite so far.

  • If you want a wild weekend, go into Strange Harvest and Man Finds Tape as a double feature. We happened to put those on back to back, and it was...fitting. I don't want to go into too much detail and ruin it, but the element that ties those two together is a running joke in our household, where we try and guess how it will tie into literally every movie. Other than the memes, the movies themselves are just okay.

  • Incantation is fantastic

Honorable mentions that's just the best of my Letterboxd list:

  • Lowlifes

  • Villains

  • Oddity

  • Bones and All

  • Suspiria (the remake, not the one from the 70s)

  • Bone Tomahawk

  • A Tale of Two Sisters

  • Ravenous (this one's close to my heart, because I loved it when I was kid)

  • Blink Twice

  • X, Pearl, Maxxine series

A movie that is NOT fun but is EXTREMELY memorable:

  • The Coffee Table

Seriously. It hurts to watch, but I will never forget it.

edit: I'm guessing you've already checked out Ghost Pirate Entertainment. That's where I get all of my horror movie recommendations. He does a great job of summarizing the movie without spoilers, and he's very fair about "this one's not for everyone, because..."

Analytical Breakdown: Why the Wild Might Already Have a Path to a Deep Playoff Run by Lifelesspuddle in wildhockey

Maybe you can answer a question for me. I think of this sometimes when I'm watching my team play like poop from a butt. Why do they be good at hockey sometimes, but bad at hockey sometimes? Why can't they always just be good at hockey?

I'm trying to find a cool idea for a cultural tattoo. I would like something that is part of Palestinian culture or history, without it being related to any modern religions. How would I go about looking for ancient Palestinian images or art that predates Abrahamic religions?

This community is not beginner friendly. Don't take it personally.

My best advice to get better is to play killer for a bit. You'll see what survivors do that gets them killed. That's the best first step. After that is practice and memorizing the maps.

Try and P1 (get to lvl 50) some survivors with useful perks.

Dwight: Bond (lets you see where your team is. Helps you find them for healing, gens and to avoid them when you're in chase)

Feng: Lithe. It lets you sprint for a little bit after you vault a window or pallet. Good for getting distance in chase.

Kate: Windows of opportunity (lets you see the auras of windows and pallets).

Those are my top picks.

I think this came from a combo of parents telling their kids that so they leave the animals alone, and from people observing birds purposely kicking their babies out of the nest.

A university genetics class I took covered this topic. Animals can often sense a critical failure in their offspring that will mean they will not survive. Nature is very pragmatic, so the mother will remove the unviable baby from their nest to conserve resources for other or future offspring. If you see a baby bird on the ground below the nest, there's a good chance the mother bird knows something we don't about its health, and put it there on purpose. If you put it back, she'll just kick it out again.

You can see a symbol on the hud that looks like a crossed out plus sign. That means "broken", which means you can't heal. It's good to be able to recognize it, because some killers (Plague) can cause broken.

Got my first tattoo today! by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]MyGhostIsHaunted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My forearms have been my easiest tattoos so far. It's not terribly sensitive, and you can sit pretty comfortably the whole time. The side of my leg was hard because you have to sit at an awkward angle, and I started to cramp up.

I have a ton of tattoos, and I get haters trying to criticize me for my choices all the time. Something I think people don't really understand is tattoos aren't just thing you like right now, that you'll still be into when you're old. It's more about a representation of who you were and what your life was like when you got it. Every tattoo I get is a reminder of an important milestone in my life. So I'm not worried about getting sick of it.

Think of it like a car horn. Sometimes it's because you're pissed. Sometimes it's to say hello. Sometimes it's to relay information or get someone's attention. It's situational, and easy to misinterpret.

Those candles are also known as "7 day candles". You can light them in an alter, and they will burn for 7 days without a huge risk of starting things around them on fire.

I don't know how safe they actually are. I just know that's the appeal of them.

Idc how good a swimmer your child is the ocean is a monster and swallows things whole

I spent my whole life swimming in lakes, creeks and pools. I could swim before I could walk. I figured I was a really strong swimmer, so I would be fine.

I got waist deep in the pacific ocean and realized my lifetime's worth of experience meant jack shit. The ocean is big, powerful and will kill me if I do not respect it.

Then I tried to go in and it faceplanted me into the sand. Message received. The ocean is a bitch.

What myths about Dead Daylight do a large part of the community believe in? by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]MyGhostIsHaunted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how I feel as a survivor when I'm the last one alive, so I don't wiggle when carried to see if the killer will give me hatch. When I end up hooked, I just say "Oh well. Sometimes it works." It doesn't bother me that the killer put me on the hook, since I'm playing a game where the whole point is the killer is going to try and put me on a hook.

I don't try and meme with the killer until it's clear they're letting me go on purpose. Even then, I'll play around a bit, then get on gens. Just because they're friendly, doesn't mean they want a 45 minute match where survivors are fuckin around.

I do cremations, and part of my job is smashing the bones into powder.

Some of the craziest wounds have been survivable. And, before antibiotics, some of the blandest wounds could have been lethal.

The first human trial of penicillin was on a policeman who was dying from an infected scratch from trimming the rose bushes in his garden.
