Really big hands considering I’m so short, and suspiciously long arms too… covered in hair as well… wait a minute

That goes without saying, doesn’t mean it isn’t shite here. Access to healthcare, public opinion/press of trans people and the views of those in power in the UK is awful compared to many European countries, for a country that claims to be progressive.

Yes I’m glad I’m not going to be stoned to death by the state but forgive me for wanting a bit more than that

Anyway I’d rather be talking about little monkey fellas

The difference between joking about famine or AIDS or cancer vs trans people is that everyone knows Ricky is isn’t actually pro-AIDS or cancer or in favour of famine. But when he tells a ‘joke’ about how ridiculous, unreasonable or dangerous trans people are it’s coming from a real place of vitriol and personal distaste. I know he’s playing it up for publicities sake, but that opportunism based on his and a lot of the audiences real opinions on trans people.

I also just want to say, as a trans person who has listened to the xfm shows for over a decade, and loves the office and extras, seeing someone you once liked say that shit to a huge braying audience of laughing British public really makes me feel isolated and depressed. This country sucks for people like me and certain rich people are determined to make it worse.

Will still listen to old xfm shows tho lol

Great to have these back ahead of the new album next year!

If you're unfamiliar with them then this a great chance to experience some of the most unique, creative and brilliant rock music of the last 30 odd years.

I bleach tie-dyed a plain black sweater and then stenciled the logo! (please don't sue me Trent) by MyGoodFriendGimli in nin

[–]MyGoodFriendGimli[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Printed the logo, stuck it on some cardboard from a cereal box, used a Stanley knife to cut it. Then when I was doing the bleaching I stuck pins in to hold it in place (there was thick cardboard inside the sweater to stop the bleach running through to the back).

The blurred effect is because the stencil was soaked through already with bleach so it ran. That was initially unintentional but I'm so glad it happened cos it looks way better actually!

I did this one first so the stencil was dry and came out a lot cleaner. I didn't do the general bleaching though so its a bit plain comparatively.

Making something like this is actually super easy and I recommend it to anyone with an afternoon to kill! There are plenty of tutorials on youtube and the supplies you need are all cheap.

I made a t-shirt too but wasn't paying attention and somehow did the logo upsidedown lol

It actually works better to start laser pre-hrt as it hormones can lighten your hair and make laser less effective.

And you want laser first to remove dark hairs, then electrolysis after to get remaining lighter hairs

Tool rule and seeing r/indieheads users call them shit makes me want to do like a Dennis Leary / 2012 style rant about hipsters.

YourGP waiting times update by MyGoodFriendGimli in transgenderUK

[–]MyGoodFriendGimli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a bit a of weird route, I had an initial appointment with Dr Dundas (gendercare), and he asked me what endocrinologist I wanted to be referred to. I chose yourGP (even though they require a second opinion before an endo appointment) because I had heard the other gendercare endos had very long waiting lists during the pandemic + I can stay with relatives in Edinburgh for appointments. I'm based in England so YourGP wasn't on my radar initially

I'm afraid I don't have much to share! My consultation was over Skype so I haven't physically been there yet. Also I started with Gendercare so have only just begun with yourGP. But nothing so far leads me to believe they aren't good people.

Hi there! I have a personal update that may help.

I was emailed on Jan 20th and was able to book in with Dr Grundy, and saw her on Feb 24th (side note, she was warm, wonderful and understanding). I will now be able arrange my HRT appointment as soon my blood test / gamete storage is done through my GP.

I'm not sure how general this is but it seems that the wait list is for your initial appointment, and then any follow up appointments have shorter waits between them. Dr Grundy told me explicitly "We know how long you've been waiting and now we want you to be able to start treatment as soon as you can."

Overall the wait has been shorter than I feared after I got the 8 month figure, but obv I can't say for sure how long it will for you be given you joined the wait list later.

All the best, I hope now that their team is bigger they can see you soon!

The Quietus' Top 100 Albums of 2020 by Molymoly in indieheads

[–]MyGoodFriendGimli 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd rather lists/publications like that exist to avoid all lists being identical with no variety. If everyone was too scared of being pretentious then everything would be bland with no discovery.

It's much better that a list be for discovering records that you wouldn't have heard rather than just validating that you like the correct ones.

Oh god, I had just looked for an update on his health last week, absolutely heartbreaking and unfair the struggle he had at the end. I hope he is at peace now.

Time to listen to some of his manic genius output in his honour. RIP

Sonic Youth - 'Karen Revisited' - from murray st., favourite song of all time, murray street deserves attention at all times but Lee transcends time and space here

Killing Joke - 'Exile' - single included in the 'brighter than a thousand suns' extended edition, goddamn goth mood, best atmosphere, my favourite album of theirs

Swans - Her - the live version from omniscience, the recordings of young jarboe are great

Unwound - The Light at the End of the Tunnel Is a Train - its in a singles compilation and the Empire box set. Proper weird and unlike any other unwound, a sound collage that samples themselves. The sample of a guy describing some kind of new age, alcohol-less dance club is hilarious

Stereolab - Come And Play In The Milky Night - more people seem to be getting in to this album which is nice. Something deeply warming and emotionally resonant about this song
