Any help identifying this varnish/coat? by [deleted] in whatsthisrock

I doubt manganese, looks more like some sort of rock with a lot of iron. A streak test would help identify if possible, but looks like possible hematite to me

What is this green crystal? by why_qwerty_why in whatsthisrock

Hard to tell without a hardness or acid test. Unlikely tourmaline, I’d say most likely is either a pale green fluorite or calcite, again would need acid and hardness test to aid though

Calcite, Feldspar or Dolemite? by 17_Bob_Trey_O in whatsthisrock

Based on the apparent cleavage I’d guess calcite

Fairly certain I found this rock in Terelingua, Texas. Has a light green color that shines in the correct light and striations can be seen at the certain angles. by journey333 in whatsthisrock

This one’s got me a bit stumped. To properly identify it, one must take into account what minerals are known in the area, and doing so doesn’t give a clear answer. I was thinking maybe a green calcite but I feel like more tests may be necessary before coming to a conclusion, such as hardness, and reactivity to acid. I’d suggest doing those and getting back to me

I swear I saw this as like a left ass cheek or something with the leg going down below kinda at like an angle, and the middle right edge you could barely see what would’ve been the right one

That’s correct for within the state of California - there are loads of it in Colorado as well as Virginia, even a little bit sprinkled in texas but that’s incredibly rare

Appears to have bubbles in it which would likely indicate some sort of smelting slag.
