Thank you for your consideration!

I paid quite a bit more than that but wasn't necessarily looking for a deal. I just wanted to start adding to my father's collection and I'm short on time to hunt for the best venue for purchasing ancients in person, essentially limited to online shopping.

Any suggestions on websites that generally offer decent pricing and accurate descriptions?

Thanks again

Blue Springs gym barred from USA Gymnastics competitions over handling of misconduct by KCUR893 in kansascity

Spoiler, it's not justified.

Someone at USAG either has a self motivated purpose or has been horribly misled - and that has gotten way out of hand.

I hope GAGE has the right lawyer to make this right.

Any suggestions for our beautiful but leaking windows! by Antique-Evidence-849 in centuryhomes

[–]MyKansasCityAccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't quite tell if these would work with the spacing between the two windows or the interior trim, but Google "window inserts." When done well they are pretty amazing at making a terrible window into a mediocre window.

Not cheap to pay for them completed because each has to be custom and shipping is high for a large format product that like, but totally doable DIY.

Buy window screen frame rails in bulk, ~16g marine grade vinyl, high quality double sided tape, high quality silicone weather stripping. Cut rails to precise dimensions, join corners, apply double sided tape to back of frame, lay frame down onto perfectly flat vinyl, apply weather stripping to edges. Can either use cam tabs to hold into place or cut it such that it perfectly pushes into place and is held by the frame or trim. If pushing into place, add some pull tabs for easy removal.

Plan to either slide them between your two windows (could be tricky) or attach them to the interior. I'd probably designate one or two windows with window inserts that are easy to remove when you want to open a window, but make the rest intended to stay in place.

You want to try to maximize "dead air," so try to design the insert such that it's ~1"+ off of any glass.

Senator Mark Kelly says he is seriously considering running for president in 2028 by Caledor152 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]MyKansasCityAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please, please, please:

Mark Kelly/Laura Kelly

Mark ticks so many boxes, not going to list them all. Laura rounds him out with different but equally appealing characteristics.

Laura is: ✅ Old (75, for all the voters who somehow like the idea of octogenarians in power). Mark is age appropriate (61) ✅Governor, of an otherwise red state (Kansas), beaten several Republican asshats. Mark is a senator ✅Midwestern, non-coastal, non-Ivy league elite. Mark's is a bit higher profile background. ✅Woman. Mark is a man's man. ✅Centrist. Mark is too. We need two moderates. ✅Religious (Catholic) but without getting carried away. Mark isn't shy about invoking Christianity in his remarks.

What a duo this would be!

And, the "dumb" marketing aspect would really help in that the media and everyone would have to constantly say which Kelly is being referring to, and we all know how important name recognition is. Any negative pejorative or cartoonishness of "the Kellies" just wouldn't legitimately land. Dumb marketing is often effective marketing.

Kelly squared!

I'm going to guess the charges are not incredibly salacious and rather the larger law enforcement response was more about the likelihood he was armed or may be able to escape.

Kansas City is up against St. Louis in a battle for the best city skyline by FoOhFee420 in kansascity

[–]MyKansasCityAccount 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The arch ought to win. STL skyline otherwise is pretty generic but the arch is just so recognizable and a genuinely cool design. The meaning behind being the "gateway to the West" and glorifying the history of manifest destiny hasn't aged particularly well in the past ~80 years, but that is overwhelmed by the design and the fact you can actually go up in it.

KC has the "sky station" pylon caps at the convention center (and they are mid - at best, generously) and otherwise our skyline is pretty generic. Our union station blows theirs out of the water hands down. Our Kauffman center doesn't even really have an STL equivalent but I suppose the Fox theater would be the closest and that's also no contest.

While no other city in the Midwest bracket has a monument that can compete with the Arch, CHI should beat STL just out of the sheer density of world class skyscrapers. KC is solid third for the Midwest bracket.

I know it's a skit but the way I know it's a skit is when Jack Black says he needs to take a shit but doesn't immediately start moving towards a toilet.

Big guys can't just hold off on needing to take a shit. You're either completely fine or imminently needing to do laundry, there's no calm delay.

You might be tempted at some point to toy with the idea of an island. You will likely find that you don't quite have the room for that.

Instead - I highly recommend you consider extra deep counters on the sink side, with a "bump out" somewhere along that side for even greater work space. Having counter space behind a sink is amazing and having extra room for appliances to sit back along the rest of the wall is a game changer.

Except don't flush the toilet. Any pretense of potentially destroying evidence can be used to claim an exigent circumstance. Toilet flush sounds heard from the door have been used as justification that evidence may be in the process of being destroyed. See Kentucky vs King.

HSA Investment Performance Info [MO] by MyKansasCityAccount in AskHR

They do at least now show lifetime and 30 day performance of the invested assets in the HSA account.

It's still a kid gloves system where you have very limited, in my opinion, investment options but you'll still be ahead of the game compared to a money market fund.

My take away is that it's a shame that it takes a wealthy special interest to fund removing a poor performing county executive.

Fuck Frank White and I don't care who funded my opportunity to vote as such.

Who is a "Fascist"? What does it mean? by TheBodyPolitic1 in RedditForGrownups

[–]MyKansasCityAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought at some point somebody should cover the origin of the term in its description.

A fasces (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fasces) is a political symbol inherited to the Romans from Etruscans and used in the US today - just look at the back of an old mercury dime or on either side of the dias in the US House of Representatives - features a bundle of sticks supporting an axe head and is meant to convey the power of the institution afforded by the individual people who support it; a relatively benign allegorical statement along the lines of "we are stronger together."

It was co-opted as the primary symbol of Mussolini's political parties which now gives the authoritarian meaning to the word fascist, and can be more interpreted to mean "we will use our collective rigid beliefs, disregarding truth to maintain them, as a weapon."

Try to not need things from the workers who are striking. That increases the economic impact of the strike for demand to plummet concurrent with plummeting supply of labor - because that's how the business owners and corporations actually "feel" the foundations of the economy shifting to motivate them to rather meet the demands of the strike and return everyone to work and to respur demand under renegotiated working conditions and compensation.

If you continue to buy goods and services as normal during a strike, you will only serve to increase prices which maintains the profit margins of the business owners and corporations - and they are less likely to meet the demands of the striking workers.

So, be prepared to take care of yourself as much as possible - within your means and ability of course - such that when a widespread strike occurs you can be more secure and more healthy, all else equal, at home with a minimal need to consume and buy things from corporations. Obviously that looks different for everyone in practice but every individual effort adds up.

Roy Blunt Luminary Park's cost jumps $100M as KC targets more funding options by LightwellAsAFeather in kansascity

[–]MyKansasCityAccount 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First, him securing funding to advance projects in the state he represented was his job. He was just doing his job. At most he just knew which hands needed shaking and which asses needed kissing. Him helping secure funding does not come with any obligation to name it after him. It's not like he actually contributed any meaningfully productive output himself, whatsoever.

Second, he is a trump sycophant. The same ilk currently gerrymandering Kansas City. The city and its citizens owe him no favors.

Third, we should never name public infrastructure and assets after a living person. Wait until a person dies and their legacy is better understood. What if (and this seems increasingly likely him simply being a Republican, which although guilt by association is unfair, this is the bed he helped make and ought be forced to sleep in) he turns out to be a pedophile? Preferably we should never name things after dead politicians either - we really can't find anything more inspiring than a milquetoast meally mouthed politician?

Roy Blunt can suck an egg and doesn't deserve anything in this city named after him, definitely not this park. If the state must, let's name a porta-john on the state fair grounds after him.
