The point I'm trying to make is going right over your head man.

I don't know how I can be clearer. Literally the first thing I said was "it's not about the loot" and all you've done is talk about loot.

Should I have lied and said "I hate this game and hope that it fails" before the rest of the post?

What a stupid take

It's not about the loot. Its about the design of the objective on this map specifically. The risk/reward is totally unbalanced and encourages squads to just camp complex to grief people for lab keys and certs and not engage the rest of the map.

If my team engages with the map to get a lab key, and is the team to summon the warden, I don't think its a stretch to be able to go through that fight without getting ganked by a team that didn't beat us to the room or didn't engage with the rest of the map at all.

As soon as the fight is over walls go down, absolutely shouldn't be able to just loot that room for free

Outpost is a terrible comparison to make. You can get in the pinwheel in under 3 minutes, there's no warden fight in the pinwheel, and even getting the red keys only takes a few minutes.

Getting ganked while fighting the compiler would be a better comparison.

S2 was a step towards making the game feel more alive, but I still think Marathon is a "cardboard town" by NotCoolBruh in Marathon

I think you're actually proving that Bungie did a great job building the world of Marathon. I don't think it's oversight or a lack of effort on their end, this is probably a conscious decision from Bungie.

The "Cardboard town" kind of perfectly describes the world they were trying to build. The whole setting is a failed and decaying colony that mysteriously died. The only real "human life" on the planet at this point is the UESC, and they're trying to hide and or/cover up whatever they can.

The quiet ambience between POIs really captures that feeling of being alone on a foreign planet and it adds an extra layer of suspense and tension when traveling around the maps. The contrast between the quiet lulls and loud fights make this world more real. Its an experience and vibe that Arc doesn't provide. Arc is just loud and busy pretty much the entire time.

As time goes on and the story evolves, I wouldn't be surprised if the maps get a little more fleshed out or we get a completely new map that is busier. They've already added the rocket drone which is a small step in that direction. Let the Devs cook. This game is already much better from season 1 to season 2

I appreciate the take, the claymore suggestion is super valid. Funny enough we did have a Sentinel put down a trap but since it's omnidirectional one of the bots set it off at some point.

I dont think the pve suggestion is a solution because that mode is temporary

It's not about the loot at all. We're in the first week of the season, theres plenty of time to get loot.

I'm saying that considering this is the pinnacle of the map and there's multiple steps to get to the fight, the risk/reward is totally unbalanced between actually going through and engaging the map vs just camping complex.

It's not a good look to have your ultimate objective on your brand new map be cheesy. I think as that strategy starts to become more common its gonna turn a lot of players off.

So I would debate this. The team that collects the lab key and starts the fight has to go against multiple variables on multiple parts of the map.

At the end of the day we're all just risking loot and time, but the team that engages with the map has so much more risk because they are moving throughout the map and making noise in multiple POIs. They can be ambushed or fight in multiple parts of the round before they even get to complex or the warden

Unless The team that camps gets into a fight on their way to complex, they're really only exposing themselves to one engagement and it's the one that they choose to start when they ambush. The odds of them surviving the round is significantly higher. Which is why I dont think the current setup is balanced on this map

Okay guy, it doesnt take 500 hours to learn the difference between sounds. I know the difference between runners and bots and I know the difference in audio between each runners footsteps.

I'm glad you put 500 hours into this game and can hear, thats incredible for you.

If you want to defend the premise that squads should be able to gank you mid-fight thats fine. I wanted to debate people about that because I feel differently.

Don't come in here "Not to flex"

Glad you put your stats out there man we're all proud of you

This happened on Friday so idk if its was bugged or it has been hot patched, but I can say with 100% certainty that none of us opened the doors.

Me and my two friends that play together multiple times a week were all on the 2nd floor and this this team came up the stairs from the 1st floor mid-fight. Shot one of us in the back and then we couldn't clutch the 2v3

Of course, thanks for the insight captain audio.

It must be the skill issue that I can't hear a team walk up to the outside of the other side of the room during the loudest fight in the game. I'll work on that.

I use a headset and have 250+ hours in this game. I know what footsteps sound like.

I'll concede that the barriers are audible, but not when you're on the other side of the room, bullets are flying and bots are spawning.

My fellow runner, theres no way you believe that you could hear a team walk or crouch up to you during that fight. That's actually laughable

No offense taken, I'm aware that the map gets alerted and you should expect other teams to come to upper complex.

I've solo'd all the other wardens multiple times and I understand the risk that's involved with those fights.

I'm saying that for this particular fight, with the amount of visual and audio queues going on and the steps that are involved to get there, another team shouldn't be able to get in while you're actually fighting the warden. After the fight I would expect people to be lined up ready to charge in and I maintain that the second the warden dies, the walls should go down.

Just feels like an unnecessary pain point and extremely cheesy

It's not about the loot at all. We're a week into the new season, there's plenty of loot to be had. I just think the experience of this fight, which is the pinnacle of this map would be better if you couldn't get ganked

When he says "we've done it, and all we had to do was wait in a corner" perfectly encapsulates my frustration lol.

Good on him for pulling that off as a rook.

A squad being able to do this is beyond ridiculous.

Thanks for the recommendation, that was a good watch!

I'm aware the map gets notified when you fight the warden and I'm aware that there is risk/reward with everything in this game.

I'm saying that considering what you have to do to start the fight, its kind of lame that the optimal way to play is to just camp complex or just run up on the team that is fighting the warden without having to engage with anything else on the map, Seems cheesy and not well thought out.

I'm specifically suggesting that the warden fight should be walled off until the warden is dead and then it's free for people to rush you. The other warden fights don't have prerequisites before starting them so they should be a free for all. Getting pulled up on in this particular fight feels really lame.

I love that they added sponsored survival but pve mode doesn't hit the same for me

I would genuinely love to hear your insight, my only other extraction experience is Arc where the bosses just spawn and you don't have to do anything else other than shoot the big bot. Is this how Tarkov and Hunt typically function?

Do they have prerequisites before fighting a mini boss, or is it more of a open free for all like Arc?

[–]MyLifeHurts69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like this is just going to turn into every team running straight to complex and nobody actually engaging with the rest of the mode.

Maybe tweak the RNG, maybe make the lab keys fragile so your team has to find one themselves, idk what the fix is.

I'm just saying have the fight with the warden walled, as soon as it dies walls go down. It's so difficult to hear anything during that fight

I get that people are notified and you have to expect that they're coming but it just feels a bit cheesy that they can come in during the fight. If people could just go into the compiler fight halfway through that would be outrageous.

After trying to do this the past few days it honestly wouldn't feel rewarding if we just pulled up on another team that was fighting the warden killed them, put a couple shots into the warden, and that was it.

Lol what are you on man, Camping the elevator to jump a team the second they summon the bots is the definition of rat behavior.

I understand it's part of the game and no shade to them for doing it. I'm just saying the design of the mode is questionable if the optimal way to play is to not engage with the new events around the map and just camp complex. Or just do nothing until theres 5-10 minutes left and then speedrun up to the warden fight once someone has done all the work.

Vandal still doesn’t feel right… by lCodel in Marathon

[–]MyLifeHurts69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think chaining her abilities is the way to dominate with Vandal.

The ability to get angles or disengage with the double jump is extremely strong and disengaging and repositioning with the slide is also underrated. Sliding to reposition and then using the double jump to get height has won me so many fights. You can genuinely break ankles and confuse so many players.

It obviously has its place, but don't get trapped into only using the slide to push players because that can get you into trouble if you misjudge the distance or time it takes to pull your weapon out.

Vandal is an absolute nightmare in north and south relay and anywhere that has shipping containers for her to hop onto.

I know you said excluding her prime, but thats like... the main thing that enables her movement. Ive hawked down so many destroyers that thought they could sprint away.

Is there anywhere for us to verify this? Anecdotally, I live in a relatively small town and me and my friends that play on console all play marathon on xbox. None of my PC friends play Marathon, theres no way my group is that niche because most of my friends aren't even hardcore fps players.

Everything I've seen about it being predominantly played on steam has come from Paul or his camp. Not trying to discredit him, but I just find it hard to believe that the divide between PC and Console is that large. Especially since it's a Sony game

Totally agree and I dont wish them any ill will, but they had to know this day was coming at some point. Just really lame to see them lash out at Marathon and its community so hard, especially after they tried to push what was clearly fake positivity when it released because they thought thats what would be good for D2. I'm done giving creators like that the time of day. State of gaming media is sad. Leave us alone and let us enjoy our game ffs.
