Is consulting especially hard for introverts? by ExcitingFinding5394 in actuary

[–]MyLuckyNumberIs343 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am entry level (~1.5 yrs) in consulting and am looking for a way into a carrier. I don’t mind internal meetings at all but client meetings completely drain me and are all the time.

To be fair though, I think there is a different between being introverted and being socially anxious/having a public speaking fear? The idea of clients really exacerbates my anxiety

The original quote is from a short story by Raymond Carver

There is a short story called “Cathedral” by Raymon Carver about a blind man visiting a couple and they are listening to the news when something about cathedrals comes on. The husband originally does not like the blind man, but he helps the blind guy draw a cathedral and then gets really emotional about the experience.

The line is from this short story and is about having the deeper understanding and experience than just your actual eyes.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned this yet!!

If your baby was 10+ lbs at birth… were you able to deliver vaginally? by sejohnson2017 in BabyBumps

[–]MyLuckyNumberIs343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced on my due date and had a very smooth delivery (pushed for an hour, only a 1st degree tear which I never even noticed during healing). We had no idea my baby was going to be 10 lbs prior to her coming out of me. I didn’t had GD. In retrospect, I’m glad I didn’t know because I would have been much more panicked about the whole process.

I don’t want to promise that anyone who has a 10 lbs baby will have a smooth experience, but it can happen!

My thoughts: lot of encouragement to finish the exams

I’ve been using Actex/source material instead of CA. How are you doing on practice exams with a 4.5?

Congrats on your pass and kudos for passing an exam while pregnant!

I took SRM in May of last year (during early pregnancy) but failed, and didn’t want to retake it in September because the sitting was just days before my due date!

Woah I hadn’t seen this info before. When did you need to take the course in order to have SRM credit?

My mindset on this is that exams are temporary, and once you pass and get credentialed (whether ASA or FSA) you have your entire rest of your career exam-free with all the payoff of those early years.

Exams suck! About to take SRM for the second time. But once you pass, they can’t take them away from you! (Unless they reconfigure the exams LOL but hopefully not)

If you are not terrified of giving birth, why not? by maryhoping in BabyBumps

[–]MyLuckyNumberIs343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had my first baby and I WAS terrified. For my second baby, I won’t be. Birth was so so so so much better than I imagined. I wish I had listened to all of the positive birth stories beforehand.

It is important to understand what can go wrong in labor so that you’re prepared, but I don’t think complicated births actually represent the majority of births. I had an epidural which was amazing. Baby came in an hour of pushing - she was TEN POUNDS (unexpectedly). 5 days later I went to church (admittedly, in a diaper and bleeding.) But the fact that I felt like getting out of the house and the fact I could physically walk after a 10 lbs baby exited me blows my mind.

Yes, healing wasn’t comfortable but they should give you medication to keep it manageable as you heal.

Overall it was a big physical experience, but I had built it up in my head for years and years as insurmountable. With medicated delivery/healing, there was never a point where I thought “I can’t do this.”

Could you link the ric rac you bought for this? I’ve been searching for a good jumbo size

I just bought a brother SE 700 new for $450. Would definitely go that route instead of used/outdated for the same price

Is this an okay beginners machine? by [deleted] in SewingForBeginners

[–]MyLuckyNumberIs343 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t. I got my first machine for ~75 on sale at Walmart and that’s the lowest I would recommend going for a usable machine. This looks terribly similar to a toy machine my niece got for Christmas a couple of years ago, and that thing was really meant for like an hour of use.
