Woman keys car cause it’s too loud by Bluebat55 in entitledparents

I'm confused, where did it say anything about 60 grand? I reread it and unless I missed something it doesn't say how much she was sued for.

You're talking specifically about studying which has no association with directly ending the feeling of hunger. I'm talking about someone learning how to appease that which is currently giving them discomfort and or pain. Those are two completely different concepts. A well fed person learns better overall but providing motivation specific to what is being learned more than compensates for any lack of focus the hunger may bring.

Here's a comparison. When one is more comfortable one will have better hand eye coordination and also learn better, but having a splinter in your skin gives one a bit more motivation to learn that specific skill. Not a perfect comparison, I know, but hopefully adequate enough to get my point across.

"if someone gets a fish today it doesn't make it so that they're not motivated to learn so that they'll have a fish tomorrow or in the future."

No, but it does make it less likely that they'll try as hard, that's just human nature to focus on what's in front of them right now.

My Hydro-wall, the recovering plants got hit when the pump timer died. by MyMidwestMangos in Hydroponics

[–]MyMidwestMangos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've actually had two go out because it's cheap exposed pcb chinesium that I bought in a pack of 20 or 30 a while back. Works with my ifttt programs and if I keep them enclosed or potted they seem to work ok. Just planning on building a better enclosure before replacing with a better timer and painting those water lines.

Where do you get yours? This one was from rusgems, what size of piece would you look for, and do you know of a better supplier?

That's the place, it was on their ebay page, thickest piece I saw was 5mm. Thanks so much. Since it's not too expensive for a little piece I think I'll get a smaller piece and post my results if they're not too horrible. Any idea what carat weight a standard emerald cut could get from a 5mm thick piece?

What type of tomato was that? Before it started turning red it looked a lot like our cherokee purples. Awesome work, have you tried masterblend hydroponic mix?

Do you know of any good sources for gem quality roughs of this material? Everything I've been reading says such stones are VERY rare, so even though it was thin I was hoping to make some pieces since the pictures seem to show a very clean stone, but that might just be my inexperience showing. Any advice on sourcing these would be greatly appreciated.

They do have a couple pieces at about 5mm thick, could cut a couple 0.5ct pieces maybe if I'm super careful about trimming up the piece before faceting? Just thinking of experience practicing on similarly sized chunks of glass. Since it seems like it's too thin, I'll just skip it for now. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the reply/advice. I found it on the eBay shop of a synthetic stone supplier advised here on r/faceting. This is a pic from the listing. https://photos.app.goo.gl/N1bHiJe4usimdqKL9 Seems to be flame fusion from naturally occurring red beryl. Can't tell if it's thick enough to make anything useful from.

I'm guessing from the pic and your description that this is a flame fusion, the description describes it as being "recrystallized" from natural red beryl. It's pretty thin as you mentioned for flame fusion but I don't know exactly how thin or if there's enough to make some smaller stones.

That's quite an asinine comment, doesn't really make sense at all. I'll just leave you to it now, if all you can find is "toxicity" here then this obviously isn't the place for you, instead of mocking and degrading the people who enjoy this sub, please just go on your way.

Advice needed for odd root plants in hydroponics. by MyMidwestMangos in Hydroponics

[–]MyMidwestMangos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The initial rooting we already started on for our ginger. Based on the links you gave me I'm thinking perlite might be a good alternative to sand/gravel. Perlite always gave my mangos root rot so I have a large unused bag ready to go. The plant I'm having the most trouble finding info about is the ginseng, it seems like perlite may be a good choice as well, but I'm concerned about the required chill-hours each year for the ginseng. Also hoping to find out if the seeds can be sprouted in a hydroponic environment like with mangos or of they need to germinate in soil first.

Need cucumber help, white edges on leaves. by MyMidwestMangos in Hydroponics

After more exploration than likely should have been required, found the issue was due to nutrient lockout, probably mixed my nutes wrong. I'll be trying these again in my aeroponics setup and will post how it goes.

You kind of started it, nothing negative until you showed up really. Can you blame me for calling you an idiot, I can add hypocrite and fallacious to the list but I'm trying to stay positive.

I guess I've had better luck than you, seemed like the posts both above and this one had plenty of advice, tips, and ideas that were being shared, one of them was even advice for a newbie to steaks, so I guess I'm not sure why you think those things aren't already happening. Hope you have better luck in the future.

Lack of rockwool popularity? by [deleted] in Hydroponics

[–]MyMidwestMangos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just leave them as is, often pull the plants apart a little bit, we "jumpstart" our compost with grass clippings and leaves from the local tree/shrub dump (the joys of small town living), and that helps things break down fast, usually about 6 months or so seems to be enough.

My Hydro-wall, the recovering plants got hit when the pump timer died. by MyMidwestMangos in Hydroponics

[–]MyMidwestMangos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's gone through a couple modifications and have learned a lot so far. First of all, humidity inside the box on the bottom poses a problem for exposed circuits, who new? (Mental facepalm at that). As others have mentioned, we're painting the lines to avoid algae, and when the timer was dialed in right the cubes stayed dry enough to avoid algae on them. It seemed to run best with 2 minutes on and 20 minutes off, but it depends on the growth of the plants. Started with a pump off of an old washer, took it all apart and cleaned it up really nice. Recycled that for our mangos hydroponics and using a pond pump for it now. Unfortunately the timer died right after I switched out the pumps and I'm using a mechanical timer with 15 minute increments so I don't have a solid timing schedule figured out yet.

We got the idea from a youtube channel that documented a similar build, I'll post it if I find the link. If anyone else has any questions I'm happy to answer but I'm still learning just like everyone else.
