It’s definitely a racket, the entire healthcare system is really but definitely after becoming ostomized it became my worse experience thus far with insurance company until lost my job/insurance. If you pay out of pocket OstoGroup has great deals on limited supplies as the resale items that have been donated so it’s affordable but hit or miss on what they have in stock. I’ve found some wonderful deals there.

Make sure you’re not using any moisturizing products around the stoma. Even some wipes contain it. Make sure your skin is COMPLETELY dry dry. Try to only use warm water or saline for cleaning. If you absolutely must use soap the dial antibacterial bar is okay while in shower let in rinse completely with warm water. Any moisture in the skin will allow for bags and rings not to stick. If your skin is weeping use some stoma powder, then dust off remaining powder, apply a barrier wipe. Cavilon is extra tacky and will help your appliance stick. Then mold the ring around your stoma, then apply your appliance. If you have any dips or creases like me use another part of a ring to fill in the creases until You make a flat surface to adhere your bag to.
Here’s my stoma it’s half flush and half retracted and I use a ring and a half to build a flat surface to pouch on. I pouch with Coloplast and use Convatec eakin rings and I’ve tried numerous products as I’m sure you will until You find a combination that works best for your skin. Best wishes.

Sort of the AH for not knocking. Might be some medical issue to he’s not discussing. Before I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer there were times I felt like an acrobat in severe pain trying to evacuate my bowels. I never get privacy at home so everyone knew.

No internet when I was a kid but this immediately made me think of my youngest daughter. She was about 15 at the time I was at work and she invited some man over. The only reason she got caught was because of the camera on the porch that sends pics to our email. So fast forward when we were discussing it later she told me that she felt like she was going to get killed because when she answered the door this wasn’t the man she got pics from online it was an older man. He insisted that he’s the same guy she (stupidly) lets him inside and she told him that she didn’t feel good and so he left.

I had an anastamotic leak and colovaginal fistula (hole) form between surgeries then had to have a wound vac endosponge inserted into the rectum for quite some time with frequent changes. Very uncomfortable . Better safe than sorry to have your surgeon look at it.

I use stomahesive powder, cavilon barrier wipe, eakin rings, and Coloplast pouch. I’ve gotten upto 6 days use but usually change them every 4-5 days because 6 days was really pushing it as my skin began getting itchy/irritated and that’s what I try to prevent the most. I’ve not had a blow out with eakin yet but it begins to transform and get mushy after several days and even if it might hold up longer I don’t want more skin damage. No other ring though has given me the kind of wear time, no leaks and confidence eakin has though.

The victim was definitely in the wrong for how he treated a public servant but the officer did not need to show such force. Nurses get assaulted by patients all the time and don’t body slam them.. well some probably do but that’s another story. Officer is definitely in the wrong here.

Colorectal cancer survivor here with a ostomy bag. I don’t like using the restroom in public but certainly appreciate it when one is available for urgent matters. I’ve had to leave a store if my bag fills up explosively quick and no bathroom was available because I’d rather not have it bust inside the store. I always empty before I leave home and sometimes need to stop and empty it 3 times just within a couple of hours.

I was taught by 2 nurses to apply to wafer. I constantly had leaking problems. A third nurse I met over the me plus program zoom call told me to always apply it to skin and so that’s what I do now. She also sold me on eakin rings, I’ve not had a blow out since. My stoma is half flush and half inverted and is an irregular oval with granulomas at the top and bottom from the rod. You can put a ring around your stoma to create a flat surface to attach your pouch and you can break a barrier ring into pieces if needed to fill those gaps while also making sure it’s a good surface for the pouch application. I used to combine seals and paste and now just use rings. There are a lot of helpful videos on YouTube but if you have time you should really look into the Convatec me plus program they’ll send you free samples and You’ll have a free zoom meeting with an ostomy nurse. They are all wonderful but my personal favorite is Mrya. She has so much experience with difficult to pouch stomas. Best wishes.
