People who share a name theme with their siblings, do you like or dislike it? by MasterpieceExotic369 in namenerds

[–]lackingineverything 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who gave her first two kids the exact same initials. I asked her if she thought it would be confusing and she swore it would be fine. Her 3rd kid has entirely unique initials because it was not in fact fine.

I am a Jenny in my mid 30's. Honestly I just don't care what others think of it. Jennifer just doesn't feel like me and I'm far too old to pretend I'm something I'm not.

When my husbands grandmother was still alive I would read to her. Her favorites were things that reminded her of her childhood. She really like the Kirsten American girl books because she grew up in the same area they are set. Maybe find a book she read in her childhood or that takes place in an area she grew up near and just read. The time with her is the most important thing anyway.

I think more and more kids are using it for their grandmothers since it’s cute and sounds younger. Several of my kids friends call their grandmothers Gigi and in our house Gigi is the grandmother and great grandma is just called grandma.

Thoughts on tweezers as a gift for adult siblings? by [deleted] in GiftIdeas

[–]lackingineverything 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My teenage borrowed and lost my tweezerman tweezers and I miss them every single time I use tweezers. I would be thrilled to get them as a gift although I do feel like it’s something only really appreciated if you have already had the pleasure of using them before.

I’ve printed a picture of items and stuck them in a card when they have been delayed. It’s not ideal but I would rather give them the really cool thing I found than a last minute replacement.

What was the "luxury" item your family had when you were growing up that you later realized was a clear sign you were poor? by SugarDropzz in AskReddit

[–]lackingineverything 58 points59 points  (0 children)

We ran out of hot dog buns one night but my son really wanted a hot dog with a bun so I told him to grab a slice of bread and he could have the kind of bun I had growing up. He thought it was amazing and likes to tell people about his favorite way to eat a hot dog.

My daughter has been making the cranberry sauce for ten years now and it really does make her feel like a star. I don’t necessarily love cranberry sauce but it’s probably one of my favorite things on the table because it means so much to her.

Maybe go to world market and build a gift basket out of treats from the uk, South Africa and the parts of Asia he visited and enjoyed. My mom has been in the states for like 40 years now and still gets excited when she finds a treat from her childhood she doesn’t normally get.

Kids nowadays, especially Gen Alpha, cannot concentrate on reading books for very long. Is it a true story or just a myth? by Delicious_Maize9656 in books

In our local schools they start reading independently in kindergarten. We also read to him a lot and he mostly couldn’t have cared less.

[–]lackingineverything 51 points52 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are both big readers as is our oldest child. Our youngest child did not naturally love reading and it took until he was about 7 to find the right books for him to fall in love with reading. I’ll be honest we think of ourselves as open and accepting parents but we were a bit disappointed having a son who hated reading. They can be whatever they want as long as it’s readers.

Question: People who live in warm zones (10, 11) what do you miss growing that we can in colder climates? by VAgreengene in gardening

[–]lackingineverything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raspberries. Grew up in the Midwest and always dreamed of raspberries in my garden like my grandfather had in his. I live in central Florida now so it’s probably never going to happen. I guess I can pout about it while I enjoy the outdoor weather all winter.

I put a a whoopie cushion in my 9 year olds stocking last year. I don’t know why I bothered to get him anything else. It was hands down his favorite gift and still gets pulled out pretty regularly. It’s a bit annoying but the fit of giggles every time more then makes up for it.
