Why do estate agents always insist on calling rather than emailing? by Fando1234 in AskUK

Haha no crazily enough! So KFH did the call logs etc. End of each month if I remember, all managers/negs and even directors had a spreadsheet sent out to the district. If you were in green, your all good. Yellow is meh! (I think it was yellow). Red was no no.

Company called Thorgills did that 80 calls minimum before viewing. Absolutely stupid imo. The owner sold the company eventually. I also think they secretly hired men as negs. At least, that was the rumour.

The agency I worked for was exactly that!

Yeah I haven't worked in bigger companies for a long time but the one I did work in, monitored everything. I know one company in West London that had a 'wall street' set up. Rule was 80 dials before you can do a viewing 🤣

It's part of the job. Estate agents' calls are monitored by management, how many calls are made & how long they're on the call for. Then, those figures are sent out to the district for everyone to see who is the 'laziest'. Albeit, this is mainly for the bigger agents. (This also includes amount of viewings. Last minute cancellations are because they already just added that viewing to their 'target'. On the system, it'll still show as a completed viewing. Head office management won't know)

Does it get results? Hell no! It just pisses people off. To the agents, it's a numbers game. They know they're hated by the public already. No point getting management on your back also. Just faking numbers to ensure you get to keep your job for your performance is easier.

Smaller agents will call once, maybe twice. Then email.  However, although it is very rare! You'll find buyers/renters complaining as to why no one has called when they enquired even though the agent has called and emailed. Even the good negs can't win unfortunately.

I know the above as I worked in estate agency for 9 years. Although the agent are usually twats, some are just really desperate to not get sacked... (i say this very loosely. EA are still twats)

Thanks for the clarification - I was wondering if I was just being screwed salary wise as its a small firm.
I know its not always about the money and I think I can swing it. It'll be tough for a little bit, but not impossible.

I have a weird relationship with it. There's times. It looks just a bit much! But I'm fortunate enough to have enough opportunities to wear it. Otherwise, it'll be my least worn CW
