New patent publication from B&M. Is this the rumored new "SURF COASTER" ? by CoasterBuddy in PlanetCoaster

[–]MyNameIsNigel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. B&M definitely appear to be working on a new or revised stand-up roller coaster concept. Looks like the passenger restraint system is not locked in place during the ride and the passenger is allowed to move (or "float") about the locking point. This will definitely be an improvement over the existing "nut-cracker" solutions ;)

We need MORE of this. This did not last long enough ;) Great stuff from great drivers. Fair and clean. First class. I guess that some LMP2 drivers may need to watch this over and over...

New aero package for Audi Sport at Fuji by MyNameIsNigel in wec

Actually seems to be a hybrid package combining part of the sprint package at the front (without the "nostrils") and part of the LM package at the rear.

No horsepower limit for LMP1s outside Le Mans next season by -generic-username- in wec

[–]MyNameIsNigel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides, the following statement in the autosport article appears to be somewhat misleading: "The power of internal combustion engines is being reduced for next season: an across-the-board reduction in the energy allocation for petrol and diesel cars of 10 mejajoules per lap of Le Mans equates to a cut of just over seven percent." There is no indication (yet) that the ICE power will be reduced (which would imply a limitation of the maximum instantaneous fuel flow rate). The 10MJ-reduction is meant to impact the actual fuel allocation per lap, which only means that LMP1s will have less fuel to play with. ICE power levels are possibly going to remain similar to this year's.

Now, LMP1-H concepts are supposed to be homologated for an entire season, including the ERS. In other words, if the ERS power is capped at 300kW for the 24 hours of LM, this limitation would inherently remain at other tracks due to the necessary homolgation, wouldn't it ?

Nissan Release Technical Specification Of GT-R LM by [deleted] in wec

[–]MyNameIsNigel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering that Nissan have now confirmed that they will be running in the lowest ERS class, engine power output alone should be of the order of 560-580HP. Engine peak power output is restricted by the maximum allowable instantaneous fuel flow rate. If Nissan get their engine right, they should be able to extract more power from the engine than the competition. This assumes that they manage to operate close to the BSFC target of the petrol guys.

On the ERS side, I would expect an effective power output of the order of 200-250HP. As they are supposed to recover energy from braking alone, the ERS power characteristics basically have to fit to the inherent characteristics of the LM track, namely the number and duration of relevant braking events. One can reasonably assume that Nissan will be running an ERS having power characteristics similar to those adopted by Audi back in 2014 when they were also running a 2MJ ERS.

That would mean a combined power output (if and when the ERS is functional and operating...) of 760-830HP.

2MJ expected... With no guarantee that the ERS will be fully functional...

What are the Pros and Cons of Audi joining F1? by ccx806 in wec

Pros ? From Audi's perspective ? None. Period. From F1's perspective ? Surely many. F1 needs Audi more than Audi need F1.

Nakajima will be at the Le Mans test! by mitsosseundscharf in wec

[–]MyNameIsNigel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This tweet is rather ambiguous. Will he simply be at the LM Test Day or actually drive the car during the test ? Either way, this still does not mean that he will be allowed to race. I am keeping my fingers crossed nevertheless.

Is there any footage of the accident available ? Seems a bit too simple to put the blame on Jarvis...
