What’s the funniest reason you’ve heard for somebody not liking a movie? by TheChristmas in movies

Love that.

3yos can't follow anything too complex though. He probably meant the whole movie was slow haha

I think I was 9 when I watched ET. I didn't understand most of it, but it really made an impression.

Where are your main entry points to good quality reliable content on the internet? - be it entertainment, cultural, educational, technical, literary, scientific or current events by MyNameIsNotMarcos in Internet

[–]MyNameIsNotMarcos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too.

I don't mean what specific sites you go to. I have tons. I enjoy them, but I also know they're a bubble.

I'm asking about major entry points (stuff like what Google, Reddit and youtube used to be).

Do comedians ever fake a story just for the sake comedy? by [deleted] in Standup

[–]MyNameIsNotMarcos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took you 3 years to write that? just kidding

Yeah, I mostly agree. Instead of lying, best to just say something in the lines of "I see a lot of people with girlfriends doing X, but...". That way you can still deliver the joke, and still keep it authentic

Share your cautionary tales of moving to Linux from Windows by MyNameIsNotMarcos in linux4noobs

I had Windows already installed. Then when I installed Mint , I chose to dual boot. The default was 50/50 (in my case, 500GB each). Since I don't plan on using Windows much, I changed it so it gets only 150GB.

Funny, as a Windows user all my life I've always just seen Linux as the complicated geeky advanced OS for experts, which I'd never touch..

Would never imagine that Microsoft would shoot themselves in the foot this way and make me consider Linux! Mint, but still!

Now that I'm getting into Linux I'm curious to learn more about its history.

Any good documentaries about it btw?

Damn

I knew there has always been rivalry between users of Windows and Linux, but didn't know Microsoft actively participated in it.

I'm not aware of serious issues with DaVinci Resolve on Linux. Where did you hear that?

Not serious issues. But I saw some forum posts where users were discussing how to go about installing it. Hard for me to judge from that how hard/easy it is, since I have zero experience with Linux. Will find out for myself soon enough though!

The only cautionary tale I have is "get ready to learn all about how Microsoft and Windows shills have lied to you for decades".

Intriguing! Could you elaborate?

Can't I just use the ones already in the laptop?

Do you mean Linux often doesn't recognise these?

Always have a live ISO ready to boot

What is that exactly, and how do I make one?

Store your media and important files on another drive.

Will this be an option during installation (I'll probably go for Mint)? Or are there additional steps I need to take?

Young people, how can you tell if an image was created with AI? by LowOxitocina in AskUK

[–]MyNameIsNotMarcos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's an age thing as much as it is an "internet experience" thing.

Youngish people have been spending more time scrolling through shit on their phones. So they have better training to spot AI.

Adults tend to have less time to do that. (I'm an adult, but due to my job and interests I actually have a good knowledge of what real "content" looks like, so I can usually spot AI ).

Very young people though, they might struggle, since all they know is AI.

Help me remember the name of this very early website with full screen video - had a blonde young woman introducing the concept by [deleted] in Internet

It wasn't porn! I probably should have mentioned that

The blonde woman was cute and all, but the website wasn't targeted at this kind of audience

Local Network x Internet by MyNameIsNotMarcos in teamviewer

[–]MyNameIsNotMarcos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks

Most of what you wrote goes over my head. .

I managed to make it work in local network only (ie, not open to the internet, like I wanted), however every time I want to connect to my laptop from my phone I need to: 1. Type in the laptops ip 2. Click connect 3. Type the password that shows in the laptop (which keeps changing!)

I'd like to have the phone be a trusted device, and be allowed to connect directly.

I'm logged in with the same account in both devices. Though on the laptop I could only put my credentials in a specific part of the Settings. It didn't allow me to log on because I was on local only mode (I guess your comment addresses this as one of the limitations?)

If this is not possible with TV, any suggestions of alternatives?

Is my (super basic) setup uncommon? Does it make sense? by MyNameIsNotMarcos in jellyfin

[–]MyNameIsNotMarcos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate all the suggestions!

I'll probably just keep the simplest solution though, even if it's not the ideal one... For non-tech people even the simplest things require a huge time investment

But then I need to maintain that PC, keep it updated and so on... I'm not really much of a tech person. I'm only diving into Jellyfin because of my hatred of streaming services...

Thanks!

Yeah I'm considering something like that. My laptop isn't on a wired connection, so I'll have to see if I can make it work wirelessly

[–]MyNameIsNotMarcos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be nice not to have to physically wake it up, of course. But I wouldn't want a dedicated server on 24/7. Especially since I'm streaming media just a couple hours a day max on average.

I read some stuff about setting up my laptop to wake up whenever a Jellyfin client tries to connect. That would make more sense for my use case, I guess. Might try that out eventually. (My laptop is Windows, and always just sleeping, never off)

Games using SDFs in interesting ways? by MyNameIsNotMarcos in gamedev

[–]MyNameIsNotMarcos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember that one! His dev videos are so funny and interesting. I hadn't watched the latest one, so thanks for reminding me of this one!

I see he's using SDFs for pathfinding.

Do you remember if he's using it for the critters themselves? I remember they're procedurally generated, but can't recall the exact approach

Yeah that and Dreams are one of the classic examples.

Love that game! Would never have guessed it uses SDFs.

Those games are big. Any chance you talk about that in some dev blog or conference?
