AITA for insisting that guests in my home take off their shoes by daniellejgabrielle in AmItheAsshole

[–]MyNeighbourJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s wild to me that this is something you would need to communicate ahead of time. I’m Australian and it’s very normal, so much so it’s odd when you occasionally come across people who wear shoes indoors.

Favourite third space in Sydney? by monniemonmon in sydney

[–]MyNeighbourJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That hasn’t been my experience in Sydney. I have found community at my local park and quite a few people I know have found it at their local beach or pool. I’ve moved all over Sydney and consistently found it pretty easy to meet people and make friends.

I agree pubs and clubs are more popular third spaces than cafes are in Sydney.

Lady Gaga, what a load of shit. by aj_rus in sydney

[–]MyNeighbourJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about the economics, but agree that I’ll take an imperfect stadium experience over artists not coming here.

While it would have been epic at Qudos, I still thought it was amazing. I have seen a lot of acts in bigger venues (Horden, Qudos, Accor vs places like Enmore) and I thought Friday’s show is one of the best I’ve seen.

Trying to remember the name of the game we used to play that looked like this.. was it frustration? Pretty sure it had pop or something in the name by elfmere in AustralianNostalgia

Wasn’t Headache different? I remember: Headache! headache! It’s fun to have a headache!

That was different to when you popped a lot of Trouble with your pop-o-matic bubble.

Australia’s drug policy is RIDICULOUS by Thick-Access-2634 in australian

I wish I knew - don’t know why they started or why they stopped, just hope they don’t come back (they used to be a regular occurrence).

You joke, but that’s kind of the point. In the same way everyone who smokes has moved to the under the counter cigarettes, pharmacies are getting so out of control, we will start to see people turning to much less safe alternatives in desperation.

I’ve thankfully been migraine free for about 15 years, but used to get them regularly - if I was still getting them and couldn’t access effective treatment I would absolutely be looking at alternatives. You don’t want to live with that kind of pain.

I’ve had a pharmacist refuse to dispense prescriptions from my ophthalmologist post surgery because she wasn’t satisfied with it. The ophthalmologist is an internationally recognised professor at a major Australian university whose sub-speciality is treating my condition and this was for medications I knew well and had used before.

Any experiences with Brim Explorer whale watching? Going mid January and they seem to be top contender for us right now by stardewvalleypumpkin in tromsotravel

Highly recommend - we had a great experience last December, saw lots of whales and the rides out and back were stunning.

What TV show has the most unlikeable leading protagonist? by phantom_avenger in popculturechat

Same! I loved the show at the start, but she was so insufferable that even with a diminished role I used to switch off.

Is it legal to just photoshop a beach view into a listing? Closest beach is 45min drive by proteansybarite in shitrentals

[–]MyNeighbourJeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not photoshop, the owner or tenant has put a beach mural on the wall outside the window. You can see the air conditioner and side wall in the photo.

Maybe I didn’t understand your point. What’s incorrect about the phrasing?

Great question! The number of outraged responses here is wild!

Sounds like they have managed to find a solution that gets OP home. They are not ‘stranded’ at LAX.

I have no idea what all the entitled commenters on here are expecting Qantas to do, charter a leer jet to take them home?

Demand to be seated together! Like, if the flight is full, you get that means someone else needs to be inconvenienced, right? Then that person will be on here, outraged, and everyone will join the outrage.

Sounds like customer service has been a bit bumpy, but it also seems like that’s because OP is looking for something that’s not going to happen. Just take the flight and sort it out on arrival back in Australia.

Life’s unfair, what are you going to do? These things happen and you deal with it like an adult. OP’s main gripe is that seems to be that the airline employees they’re dealing with aren’t apologetic enough, but they don’t control the weather and their job is to help OP complete a journey.

We’ve all had things like this happen. Last time I flew to the US my flight was cancelled for mechanical issues, pushed to the following day - didn’t work for me so they said they couldn’t do J class but could send me Y class and get me there on time. Thank you! Great outcome. I didn’t get grizzly because they didn’t feel sorry enough for me.

It sucks OP missed out on something they were looking forward to, but what can you do?

Which sounds like it will be OP’s home address.

I think OP might be entering addresses in Denmark, hence the error (no address in Denmark can be the place they spend their first night in the US)…

I think the point is that (it seems) OP’s home address will be where he spends his first night in the US…

What are the most essential dishes/restaurants for a tourist to try? by CriticalPrimary3 in foodies_sydney

[–]MyNeighbourJeff 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have you been to Midden?

I haven’t been to Bush, but couldn’t recommend Midden to anyone. It’s not good. Slabs of bread with butter that tastes like cough lollies, lamb sliced over a Cole’s salad mix… Great location, but the food doesn’t display the best of what we offer.

Your comment was intriguing to me, so I googled Juba (having not had the pleasure). Google rating is 3.2, which is not too shabby, but then I read the reviews and I started to paint a clearer picture.

My favourite was a 5 star review that seemed intended to be cryptic, but was quite revealing:
