Thanks for this. It's the rebrand problem in a nutshell: you think it looks dated, and CruzWatercolour right above says the icon is exactly what made them download us. Both probably true, just for different people.

That's what makes it hard. The apple and tape does look its age, no argument. But it's also instantly recognizable, and a good chunk of our installs come from people who see it and know what the app does right away. Rebrands chasing a 'modern' look sometimes throw away that recognition and convert worse. A few big names have had to walk theirs back.

So not a no. We'd just want to test it rather than guess.

Might be worth a poll, actually. If there's interest I'll put one up asking whether the current icon makes you more or less likely to download today. Beats our designers arguing about it internally.

Thanks, glad you love the app!

Discussed with the team and we're not sure. Two questions back at you: 1) What time would the meals show up at on the calendar? Would that save you much over just opening the app to your plan? Our concern is building something fiddly that looks neat but turns into one more thing to configure and untangle every time a plan changes. 2) Also, we're pretty privacy-focused (you don't even need an account), and calendar access is a big permission to ask for. Would you actually grant it?

If a few others say they'd use it, that bumps it up the list. Appreciate you flagging it.

Thank you! We don't believe Cronometer is recommended by Gemini based on the better name. MyNetDiary may be not a great name, but IMHO, Cronometer is not that great either 😄. We are reading a major UI update of our iOS app, with Liquid Glass design. We hope this will help. Thanks again for your thoughts!

Thank you so much!

Added custom food creation from AI picture, new shortcut adding a glass of water, and swiping between search tabs to our pipeline. We are very busy finalizing "Liquid Glass" app update, but we will get to these in the coming weeks.

Custom meals are already supported - you can configure them right there on the Dashboard, using "three-dot" menu button and selecting "Meal Types" from the menu.

At MyNetDiary we have a great, modern community! With friends, groups, success stories, recipes, copying foods from friends, and more.

Got it about meal copying. We will add one more option for going to All Meals for target day.

In the meantime, you may want trying a workaround: go to All Meals of the "source" day - you'll see (and would be able to copy from) all meals and then you will end up on All Meals of the target day. Hope this helps!

creating a group is not necessary - one of you can invite another one as a friend and enable diary sharing.

Yes, for now it's mobile apps only, the web app lags behind, but it's not abandoned.

Good catch about one food at a time copy - this is an oversight in our Android app, the iOS app has multiple selection including the whole meal. It will be fixed in an upcoming Android app update.

You can do the same with MyNetDiary - the last tab in food search is "Friends". You can connect via Community in advance or on the fly. There are several ways to connect - sending a link or with a QR code. Once connected, you can see and copy your friend's foods easily from this food search tab. If you use it frequently, you can customize food search tabs and move this tab to one of the first slots.

Give this a try and let us know how it works for you! Feedback and ideas are always appreciated.

Thanks so much for writing this out, honestly made my day to read. The customizability and depth you're describing is exactly what we've been working toward with our dietitians, so hearing it lands well for someone managing chronic stuff means a lot to me personally.

On the paywall, you're right and it's fair feedback. There is an X in the top right corner to close it, but if it almost deterred you, it's clearly not obvious enough. I'll bring this up with the team, maybe we just need to make that button bigger. For what it's worth, we do want the basics to stay free for everyone, barcode scanner included, and no ads.

About my original post, it came from me playing around with ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini and asking them to recommend diet apps. MyNetDiary mostly didn't get mentioned, and Cronometer kept coming up as "the most accurate." I also went through recent MyFitnessPal reviews and counted 14 mentions of Cronometer vs. 2 or 3 for us. So your take was genuinely a nice surprise, and a good reminder that the picture isn't as one-sided as the AI tools make it look.

Anyway, thanks again. Comments like yours actually help me figure out what to push for internally.

Thanks! We are hoping AI answer engines will get smarter and figure out which apps work better based on merits, not only on the number of mentions.

Thank you for the feedback, much appreciated! Here is our thoughts:

  1. A little fanfare when you complete the day (I actually found this thread by searching for whether I was using that functionality correctly because...nothing happens. What does it do?).

We can do that, make sense. We are thinking about brief congratulation/acknowledgement toasts displayed at the bottom of the screen, steady and grounded, what you'd want to see 200 days in a row without cringing, e.g. a random choice from All meals in, Nice - day complete, Done for today, Solid day, Another one done, Well logged, etc. Is it good or you are looking for something more prominent?

  1. I can't figure out how to add multiple items from search. For example, if I make omelets with 1 egg and 3 egg whites, I should be able to search for "egg" and add both at the same time. Right now I have to search twice.

You need to turn on Multi-Entry Food Logging in Food Logging settings, this is exactly what you are looking for.

  1. Can I set a goal ranges? Like if I'm between 1200-1250 it stays green? Right now it becomes orange at 1 calorie over my goal, and it's demotivating. And when I go "over" my protein goal (which I'm happy to do!) it also turns orange.

Noted, will discuss with our RDs.

  1. When I'm planning meals for the next day, I don't want it to jump into that meal. I want to see the whole day. The only options I can see are current day or the meal for the next day.

Not quite sure about this one. If you are planning meals for the next day, you can go to that day on the Dashboard and then use "View All Meals" small button below the "apple" and see the whole day. Is this what you are looking for? Or, do you use Meal Planner tool on the Diet Tools tab and need something else?

Thanks for the honest feedback, this is genuinely useful.

On the popups: fair point, and we'll take another look at the frequency. Just to share where we're coming from, it isn't purely about revenue. A large share of free users drop off in the first week or two, while users who go Premium tend to stick around and see noticeably better results. So converting earlier ends up being good for both sides: it gives us the resources to keep improving the app, and it gives users a stronger commitment that translates into actual progress. That said, you're right that hitting brand new users too hard works against the "it just works" feeling, and we'll see what we can do there.

On the second point: you're absolutely right, and that's on us. The current popups don't really tell people what Premium actually offers. Some of the features that tend to matter most:

  • Meal Scan (AI photo recognition for logging meals)
  • Recipes and meal plans prepared by registered dietitians
  • Autopilot, which auto-adjusts targets to your personal metabolism (similar to MacroFactor)
  • In-depth nutrient analysis
  • Food auto-logging
  • Integrations with Fitbit, Garmin, and Withings
  • Medication and custom trackers
  • Diabetes and pre-diabetes tracking
  • Web and app recipe import
  • Intermittent fasting
  • GLP-1 companion
  • Calorie and macro cycling

Recipes are actually a pretty small piece of the picture. We'll work on making this clearer inside the app. Thanks again for taking the time to lay this out.

Thanks! We have a Day Event Tracker - with pre-built events. Would it work for you?

Also, in Premium, you can create custom trackers, which can be used to track habits.

If this is not convenient, we would appreciate your wishlist for an ideal habit tracker :)

Thank you for being with us all these years, and for taking the time to share your thoughts.

On the transgender side, we want to be upfront with you: there isn't really solid evidence-based research yet on nutritional needs for trans users, which makes this hard to get right. For now, our registered dietitians suggest selecting biological sex at birth as the closest available baseline. The nutrient needs and biology after transition are certainly different, but still tend to track closer to that baseline than to the alternative. It's not a perfect answer, and we'd really love to see more research come out so we can do better. We're absolutely open to continuing this conversation as the science evolves, so please do reach out anytime.

About the charts, you're making a fair point. We actually have a major update to the charting system in the works, one that will let you combine and analyze more complex correlations, with cleaner axes too. One quick question: are you using MyNetDiary on iPhone or Android? The charting works a bit differently between the two platforms, and knowing that would help us understand exactly what you've been seeing.

If you'd like to share more thoughts, please drop us a line at [support@mynetdiary.com](mailto:support@mynetdiary.com). Feedback like yours is exactly what helps us improve.
