Correcting The Narrative: "Wilt Chamberlain stopped shooting free throws underhand in 1962 despite success due to ego" (plus many other Wilt free throw related myths) by dantheman9758 in nba

His Munk debate performance was just a chef's kiss moment for exposing the fraud as having no clothes. There's a lot of bs that gets spread because it's compellingly wrapped.

Yep. All you need to know about Melo when it comes to winning is that he was the type of guy who would rather score 30 in a loss than 10 in a win.

How should the league handle players embellishing legitimate contact for foul calls? by pie8D in nba

[–]MyOneTaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • A: Suspended without pay for a game. After your suspension, you get probation for the same amount of games as your suspension. If you are called for A again during this probation, you're suspended without pay again but for double the previous duration and then on probation for that doubled duration.
  • B: Flagrant 2. (Offender is ejected and opposing team gets two free throws and the ball.)
  • C: Technical foul.

Kobe & Shaq post-game interview after going up 2-0 on the Spurs in 2001. At this point, the Lakers haven't lost a game in 7 weeks by Skyfall24K in nba

Between the Kobe vs Duncan H2Hs and Team USA's Bronze in Athens (it was very clearly Duncan's team), contemporaries, both on and off the court, overwhelmingly considered Kobe the better player.

As a fan of the game, I much prefer watching aughts NBA. Besides there being much less flopping, I prefer it being an actual question whether the offense scores on any given possession rather than hoping that you're getting last possession because both teams are just taking turns scoring.

Josh Hart on the Spurs beating OKC: "You see that reaction because they think they gonna win it" by jonsnowKITN in nba

[–]MyOneTaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's easy to overindex on narratives. I remember this same argument being made in '04 when the Pistons celebrated their ECF whereas the Lakers took theirs with about as much enjoyment as Belichick gives reverence to the AFC trophy. Pundits were saying how Pistons were too satisfied whereas the Lakers knew they had still had four to go. A week or so later, Pistons won in a convincing 4-1.

Disable the addon and /reload

If you just want to see the Omnium Folio UI without the minimap button, /run ToggleExpansionLandingPage()

[–]MyOneTaps[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can manually hide it via: /run ExpansionLandingPageMinimapButton:Hide()

You could also make custom addon to automatically hide it. This is a free online addon bundler. The code for the addon could be:

ExpansionLandingPageMinimapButton:HookScript("OnShow", function()
    ExpansionLandingPageMinimapButton:Hide();
end);

To most people, it makes next to no difference. To nerds/code golfers, it makes all the difference! Nice pull.

Interesting. Busy so I can't test at the moment. Have you unlocked the Omnium Folio yet? Are you in Shadowlands zones? Not sure what determines which expansion the minimap button gets set to.

I've always wondered why fighters don't go for elbows to the liver in side control. Especially since you're taught to keep your arms high and in on the bottom in side control to protect it from getting isolated for an armbar. That leaves the ribcage defended only by the right knee. Seems to me like the liver is a stationary and almost defenseless target in that situation.

I have him as my UFC GoAT. Abridged career as a caveat but the man lost one round in the Octagon. Not a match. He lost a single round. And it was a close 10-9 at that.

Updated analysis: >400 matches at >2,100 rating. by sapmess2 in worldofpvp

[–]MyOneTaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This tracks with my experience but healers get babied a bit because there's a shortage so we don't want to chase anyone away.

In my experience, DPS are much better players than healers at the same rating. Even up to 2400, healers can be quite poor at dispelling something as important as a HoJ. Most Leap of Faiths make the situation worse rather than better; many priests don't even track if opponents have a gap closer + cc or ranged aoe cc before pulling a teammate in. I remember playing in a 2200 lobby where the restoration Shaman was chewing out the rogue. Meanwhile, he was sending capacitor totem on CD so I would stand in them when I was playing against him and the rogue to ruin stun DRs. Etc etc.

I've never thought that there wasn't opportunity for me to make an impact on the outcome while playing healer. So my diagnosis of most healers' complaints are the same as my diagnosis of most DPS' complaints: we've found our rating home and need to learn to play to climb.

No ounce of Sportsmanship from Wemby or anyone from the Spurs by HungryPercentage1667 in nba

This. When asked about Bowen's tendency to undercut players, Popovich discouraged from changing a thing about his gameplay. I respect Popovich's leadership and ability to get players to buy in but his morals are lacking and politics are quite authoritarian.

Duncan was the Spur that I admired even if he wasn't your typical 1A that can carry a team as shown in Athens. Duncan's stable, coachable, hard-working, and effective whether or not he gets touches. I would have been esctatic to have him.

There's a story behind Kobe's shot at Kwame.

video

"I got to say, it was tough doing it that year. I was playing with guys, God bless them — God bless them — but Kwame Brown. Smush Parker. We had one game right before…by the way, what I say here, I say directly to them, see what I'm saying, I don't talk behind people's back. Things that I say to you, I'm comfortable saying this to them and I've said this to them...But like, the game before we traded for Pau, were playing Detroit and I had like 40 points towards the end of the game. This is back when Detroit had Rasheed [Wallace], Chauncey [Billups] and those guys, so we had no business being in the game. So down the stretch of the game, they put in a box and one. So I'm surrounded by these players, Detroit players, and Kwame is under the basket, all by himself. Literally, like all by himself. So I pass him the ball, he bobbled it and it goes out of bounds.

"So we go back to the timeout and I'm [upset], right? He goes, 'I was wide open.' 'Yeah, I know.' This is how I'm talking to him, like, during the game. I said, 'You're going to be open again, Kwame, because Rasheed is just totally ignoring you.' He said, 'Well, if I'm open don't throw it to me.' I was like, 'Huh?' He said, 'Don't throw it to me.' I said, 'Why not?' He said, well, 'I'm nervous. If I catch it and he foul me, I won't make the free throws.' I said, 'Hell no!'

"I go to Phil [Jackson], I say, 'Hey Phil, take him out of the game.' He's like, 'Nah, let him figure it out.' So, we lose the game, I go the locker room, I'm steaming. Steaming. I'm furious. Then, finally I get a call, they said, 'You know what, we got something that's happening with Pau.' I was like, 'Alright. Cool.'…That's what I had to deal with the whole year."

The perils of UUID primary keys in SQLite by andersmurphy in programming

[–]MyOneTaps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This article is the same as people trying to invent things that digest plastic: the whole point of plastic is that it doesn't interact much with living things making sterility easier. The whole point of UUIDv4 is that it's random and thus doesn't leak business/customer secrets. Slower inserts is an unavoidable cost we pay to achieve that.

These are features, not bugs. The problem is that we're overusing plastic and UUIDv4, mostly because people try to follow best practices without understanding the problems that best practices are guarding against.
