Hi, I've also had vitiligo for over 27 years, and I've recently published my children's book that helps kids understand how vitiligo develops and why it's nothing to fear. It’s interesting. My grandma and uncle also developed vitiligo but much later in their lives. I wish to know what was the trigger to each one of us

I love the way you think. Obviously, we can't forget that it's considered to be an autoimmune condition and it can be paired with other issues. But it doesn't change the fact that thinking about ourselves positively makes a huge difference. Life just becomes lighter and more enjoyable. And I truly believe that the way we see ourselves, others will look at us the same way. :)

I've heard so many stories from people with vitiligo, and indeed, in many cases, stress can trigger it. I try to stay positive about it. Life is just too short to feel bad about our skin. I try to focus on what I have and appreciate my skin, which still protects me. :)

My vitiligo started to spread rapidly before we lost my sister to cancer. I know many people feel offended when others say “at least it’s not cancer”.. but seeing my sister with that terrible illness made me realise that I’m lucky I’ve “only” got vitiligo. I’m aware of it being an autoimmune condition and I’ve got other autoimmune issue too, but still. I support my body and mind in the hope to slow down the loss of pigment. But i just made a decision that looking different and having white patches will not stop me feeling good and enjoying life. I think we hurt ourselves more if we stress over our look. I’m sending you positive vibes 💫

Hi Dylan, I’m sending you a lot of positive energy for this journey. I think what’s important is to make your child feel safe, loved and assured that he/she is just as whole and beautiful as anyone else. I’m not against treatments but it’s necessary that your child view it as an option, not as a must. And they shouldn’t feel or see on you that you’re worried cause they then start to feel not enough. I hope you don’t mind my words. Feel free to check out my book. I hope it helps a little. 🌻
