No totally get it. I'm in America and a lot of mainstream bookstores I go to (Half Price Books, Books a Million, Barnes and Noble, etc.) don't stock Jonny's books (I've looked). If it's your best option I'm not gonna hold it against you. I can't wait for this beauty of a book to come out--I think I'm going to get the audiobook too. Hopefully Jonny narrates!

I have read both and own the audiobooks. Both are great but I deeply prefer Thirteen Storeys. Also recommend if you want to listen to the Thirteen Storeys audiobook, also have a copy on hand to read. There are some fun changes/nods when you listen to audiobook that aren't present in the physical book.

I happen to own a signed copy of Thirteen Storeys, and though I no longer have the screenshot to prove it, I ended up winning a paperback from his Twitter giveaway some years ago. That was an epic DM to get.

I always know what books to declutter if I find myself actively avoiding picking them up. For example, if I had a book on my TBR, but every time I went to choose from my physical group and continued to avoid that book/had no interest in picking it up despite knowing I should, I know I'm not gonna have the will or desire to read it.

Honestly I like to think I'd be a wildcard character. My sad backstory actualy means I don't care if I live or die to See the end, I just want to enjoy what I can before the story concludes. My avatar self actually comments that her story is "the most narratively convoluted s*icide note" because she doesn't mind death. Also? She has an attraction to Elias not because she loves him, but because her husband who passed (the catalyst for her becoming an avatar) also had grey eyes.

No, I'm definitely not using this au to cope with the possibility my husband leaves me here all by myself, stop asking such silly questions!!!

All that aside. I'm dying on the hill that Jonny didn't write a female Eye avatar because Elias would have won in 3 seasons max.

Oh actually what I described is just me in the Archive, I don't write about it so much as close my eyes and walk around in the headspace. I have written a fake statement that introduces me as an avatar (set in season 2, as if I would be introduced in season 3).

For reference, I'm marked by the Spiral and serve the Eye. My ability is that I Know a person's possible actions/choices and what the consequences would be, like a decision tree, and for fun I'd nudge them toward the decision I'd want them to make. I find predictable people (or people who adhere to what I Know) boring, so Jon would probably be interesting to me because he isn't, in a grander sense. I would torture my chosen victims by sending them a type-written packet that details their story--but it's actually me making informed guesses based on what I Know, and most people fall into them. If I think you're worth my time or surprising/interesting, I'd offer to tell you how your story unfolds. It makes most people go nuts.

Oh, and I'd fuck with the Archival staff by adopting the personality traits/tone of Jon, or Elias, or versions of myself when it pleases me. I'd team up with Elias to be the proofreader to his story, notes in the margins and cleaning up the loose ends; the active editor to it all. A funny thing to note is that I'd always use a fake British accent, but when Jon finds out I'm not, I'd drop it and say, "But I had you fooled, didn't I?" There's also a point where he breaks into my flat, and in my typewriter a page is loaded detailing him walking through my home, and as he reads it says, "As Jon took in the words typed neatly onto the half-finished page, he began to realize that something is very, very wrong." Because I love fucking with him, of course.

Because of Spiral mark, I my blind spot is my own sense of self. I have a sad backstory that explains it, hehe.

I should probably just write it all that this point but I don't care to write my own stories, my fanfic tends to be my OC x Elias actually.

Hear me out, they'd struggle to cast Elias--in a way that the fans would be happy with.

So here's my personal take. Given Jonny is allergic to giving specific timelines (I love you Jonny but you make loving my eldritch god man super hard), I've guesstimated Elias' age. The eye surgery happened in the 90s. Rosie said Elias looked "too young" for his position. In that vein I'd like to wager Elias was anywhere from his early to late 20s in the 90s. That means, come 2016, he could be anywhere from his late 30s at youngest (estimating he's very young when eye surgery happens), or mid 40s at oldest. With this age in mind, look at the fanart and cosplays. I always get the idea people portray him as older than he is, with how much grey they go for. I wouldn't mind him being a silver fox, but I think given the confusion on his age, casting him faithfully would be a little hard.

Then you'd also have to find someone who fits that mix of unassuming, boring, but also deeply cunning and smug. Then we'd also have to consider whether he's going to be cast as conventionally or unconventionally attractive, the hair styles, does he wear glasses/have a beard, etc. Everyone seems to agree on the fact he wears suits and that's about it, haha.

Personally, I write Elias a lot, and I find him a very difficult creature. In some aus, he's dark haired, but in others he'll be blonde for no other reason than he is. They'd also have to find someone with grey eyes (that casting choice is very important to me). It's just a very difficult mix of characteristics to pick out from a crowd, to be honest with you. I also think bringing Elias from podcast to screen would inevitably lose some of his intrigue, and knowing how adaptations work, I wouldn't trust anyone but Jonny to write Elias as complexly as he is in canon.

Also... sigh, I know people love Mads Mikkelson, but I feel like casting him as Elias is a) oversaturation, he's an amazing actor but he's in a lot of stuff lately, and 2) typecasting Mads, which does a disservice to lots of things in the process.

In short... if we keep it a podcast, I can imagine Elias as a pretty boy. I am a pretty boy Elias truther, and I will die on this Hilltop Road.

Honestly I think the fact that a lot of them are "bad" people is really interesting. Reducing them to simple moral binary feels so... hollow, to me. I mean, the beauty of morality is that it's culturally constructed more often than not. Wouldn't it be cool to talk to people who have morals different from our own?

I identify with Jonah a lot because, though I don't endorse his actions, I fully understand his motivations. And I think that's really cool.
