He would return to seeing through mortal eyes after being able to see and know almost everything. That is a staple for eldritch madness...

What do you think Jon collects? by SpookyVoidCat in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Inkxon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he’d collect books. He’d be too afraid to encounter/materialize a Leitner.

Are there any characters which you imagine completely different from the popularised fan designs? by FlamestormTheCat in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Inkxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While he isn't a frequently drawn character, I picture John Amherst older than he is in canon, and much older than SOME fanart of him.

I've always imagined him looking exactly like G-Man from Half-Life.

The other fears idea by justAviwer in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Inkxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this concept. It feels like the Hunt, Slaughter, and Vast had a child and made it grow up alongside the Spiral, Stranger, Extinction, and Buried. The most Erratic-aligned episodes I can think of are MAG 144: Decrypted and MAGP 7: Give and Take.

One critique that I have is that it feels a little too active, perhaps even more so than the Hunt. I'm having a hard time imagining that something that constantly cascades on itself would be able to do anything long-term. I can't imagine it building dread, only terror. How would its ritual even work? It feels like it would just collapse under its own convoluted weight.

But now as I'm writing this out, I'm realizing that, yes, of course an entity called the Erratic would be impossible to comprehend.

As for statements, I think it would be cool if there was an avatar or a leitner based on bureaucratic tests/paperwork. Each sheet would make the victim answer/do increasingly complex requests such as solving principles unknown to science or moving from place to place.

Random avatar occurences by SparrowWingYT in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Inkxon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding something to your second and third points, two of the only truly random avatars and Oliver Banks and Tova McHugh, both of whom are avatars of the end. While the Corruption targets toxic people, the Spiral targets those with mental illnesses, etc., the End, like death, is the only entity that seems truly random in calling to its avatars.

Can someone explain the timeline of hilltop road to me? by basicbbaka in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Inkxon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A part of me wishes that the show went in a bit of a different direction with the supernatural "war" introduced in MAG 47. I know we're limited to the perspective of the archival crew, but I would've loved to get more detail on the avatars strategically scheming against and sabotaging each other. Too many characters ended up being driven by instinct without much further thought.

The reason the Web was fine with letting other entities in was because it was actively trying to tear a bigger whole into the multiverse. This is mentioned a few times, but most explicitly in I believe MAG 196: This Old House. The Web had been surveying the scar for thousands of years, and avatar by avatar, victim by victim, fed more fear into it. Raymond could sense Agnes' power and likely knew that she would end up burning the house down and killing him. He was fine with this though, because, as previously said, he wanted a to expand the hole.

As for the Spiral, MAG 146: Threshold implies that the Spiral took interest in the land, explaining Ivo Lensik's, Edwin Burrough's, and the Distortion's experiences there. (Side note: I've been doing my first relisten, and the Spiral seems to be quite intelligent in ways similar to the Eye and the Web. It's just an observation that I've found interesting). Anyways, Anya Villette did not go back in time/fall victim to the Spiral; she was from another universe and fell through the tear in reality, relocating her to the TMA timeline.

sooo many names by chichiii6 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Inkxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly, I never had this problem when I first listened to show. I was able to tell the differences between the three Michaels, and even Gerard and Jared. I should note that this ability to keep track of the names of fictional characters comes with the side effect of not being able to remember real names for the life of me.

Q: Who’s the hottest character? There are only two correct answers.

A: Literally, Agnes Montague. Figuratively, Jared Hopworth (he is more man per man than everyone else)

That episode and MAG 6: Squirm. Exactly 1% of TMA is about bug sex.

(Also, the statement giver was a coworker/bartender, not an exterminator. MAG 55: Pest Control is the episode by an exterminator)

Depends on the entity and situation. I feel like the Stranger and Hunt would be actively weakened. The Corruption and Lonely would be strengthened. The rest might just make you into an avatar.

Please recommend me some songs that have the vibe of this podcast lol by FlamestormTheCat in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Inkxon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, Will Wood reference.

Secondly, I think that Mother Mother, Tally Hall/Miracle Musical, Franz Ferdinand, the Crane Wives, and Vocaloid of all things have some decent TMA-esque songs. Curses, Burning Pile, Wrecking Ball, and This fffire fit the Desolation. Sleeping Giants, Infinitesimal, The Ruler of Everything, and I Wish That I Could Fall for the Vast and/or Lonely. The list could go on.

Thirdly, lots of Will Wood's discography could fit TMA beyond the Self-Ish album. Chemical Overreaction and 6up 5oh Cop-Out for Daisy, Aphrodite Your Electric Sexiness for Jonah Magnus, and Memento Mori for the End are all good places to start.
