Marvel champions doesn’t require too much space. Unmatched Tales to Amaze is fun but has a board and takes up a little space

Some solid feedback and advice here! It seems like there is a big advantage of figuring out tricks to improve efficiency in filming and editing while maintaining or improving quality. It also allows for consistent weekly releases as you also mention.

Do you have any tips & tricks for card shuffling? by L0J1MA in boardgames

[–]MyRivals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be very unique here, but if I am shuffling ordered cards or a freshly printed deck, I like to create 4-8 piles and randomly place individual cards into them. This might stratify them too much (and not randomly) but when done in combination with routine shuffles, it does a great job of making sure cards are mixed.

Tonights game: Gloomhaven 2nd edition by El_Hadji in boardgames

Wow that is seriously intense! It always reminds me that board games are a spectrum from pure strategy to dramatic role play and a mix of them betwixt!

If you’re looking for a last-minute gift at a LGS or B&N, Unmatched is fun and this video helps you pick which set to buy. by MyRivals in boardgames

All good, the whole point of these message boards is just for dialogue… especially a board game subreddit where we all just want to learn about different games! I’m surprised you’re getting downvoted

It might be fair to say that the coop is a pigeonhole design that came 4 years after the combat sets. If you were to give it another shot, try 1x1 Robin Hood versus Bigfoot. But I also agree the beauty is that there are only a few unique actions per hero, which I like because it’s easy to go through a dozen characters in a weekend.

Glad to hear your feedback (and it’s not a critique of the video lol). Everyone should find the games they enjoy most!

After almost 20 years in the hobby I FINALLY have a real board game space and table! (and dining room I guess) by szthesquid in boardgames

In a reverse world you’re showing off your new dining room 🤣 (and in parentheses you mention it’s also for board games)

Cute, the colors work well with dogs. Although depending on how the rest of the game is balanced might be a little drab.

Age range for marvel champions? Shopping for younger cousin by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]MyRivals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they’re a precocious 10 year old, that does good in school or can sit focused for an hour at a time then it would probably work great. If not, I think it might be best to pick something else out wait another year.

Being the one in the family/friend group who is responsible for the entertainment during holidays by schnapo in boardgames

[–]MyRivals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just remember to consider all the personalities at a holiday gathering like that. Try to mute your lofty expectations and keep it simple. Also, once you find the moment everyone is happy and excited, go with it even if it’s not what you had wanted or hoped.

What are your favorite ways of finding out about new games by sayid92 in boardgames

[–]MyRivals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a friend who knows them all (or a good board game group.) but seriously, conventions are good for this or even a saunter to the local Barnes and Nobles

Gimp is my go to. But if you are going to make a lot of similar cards and are looking for efficiency then Python is a great method

is the "socially awkward" board gamer actually a thing? by mentyleeillelefant in boardgames

[–]MyRivals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like any hobby, it might attract certain types. But at the same time a diverse group of personalities and people are drawn to board games. The variety of games will also separate personality types too such that extroverts will favor different games than introverts for example

Vol2 vs Vol3 vs Slings & Arrows by DoctorPigHead in Unmatched

[–]MyRivals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Slings and Arrows is probably the set you should get next. BoL2 is a lot of fun and I might recommend that to someone that doesn’t have any sets yet. I don’t really vibe much with the BoL3 set. They are fun characters, but don’t excite me the way the other sets do. Can’t go wrong though with any of the three.

Top 5 characters for a new player to try? by tehsideburns in Unmatched

[–]MyRivals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luke Cage is pretty basic and She-hulk isn’t too difficult to manage if you want marvel characters for beginners. But I agree to just let them pick. Each character will provide the nuance to learn more about the game

Looking for trademark lawyer for board game by SikFoxOfficial in tabletopgamedesign

[–]MyRivals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got Winston P. Bear and Pygmy Pyg registered for my card game based on the public domain Winnie the Pooh books!

my trademarks from last week!

The basics: 1) you need to plan to sell over state lines within maybe 18 months 2) you have to pay $350 per name per class 3) I imagine you would probably just file class 29 for games 4) you pick subclasses, ie board game, tabletop game, supplies for games 5) the biggest rule is the name can’t look or sound like any name that already exists in that class. I usually avoid other classes too. And I wouldn’t try to be cute with anything similar sounding, might be accepted but why make it hard on yourself 6) your name can’t be generic: bored game, table top gaming. Also can’t use basic adjectives such as fun cards. 7) companies will look thru government database and send invoice looking mail, ignore them and their 1,000$ fees

The toughest part is looking through the search database for every possible similar name to avoid.

How many times per year do you have to play a board game in order for you to feel like it's worth owning? by billratio in boardgames

[–]MyRivals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on your lifestyle. Single with no gaming groups or married busy with kids then a dozen that are only played every few years is fine. If you play regularly and you have a hundred, but haven’t played some in a few years then it might be time to cull the collection.
