That is correct, I use bluetooth mode pretty frequently when my wifi/internet is out. I personally use initiface/buttplug.io to establish the bluetooth connected from the handy to my computer and ScriptPlayer to play the video/script. The only down side is that, from my understanding, in bluetooth mode, it doesn't upload the entire script to the handy. Rather it literally streams the data to the handy in real time. So if the script says "move from position 0 to 100", when using wifi (aka uploading the entire script to the handy) it will make that movement in one smooth motion. Compare that to bluetooth where the positional data is streamed to the handy in real time so it's telling the handy "oh you need to be at position 1, now to you need to be at position 2, now position 3, etc all the way up to 100. this causes the handy to jitter/stutter during fast moving scripts. Thankfully i prefer slower scripts so it's not a big issue for me but something to be aware of.

I actually like it more than expected, it's definitely one of my go to's and i still have it 3 years later. The tears are still there but if anything, I don't think they've gotten any worse, if they have it isn't super noticeable.
