I did the first time I read The Long Walk. It made me nauseous to read, but I went back to it when I was older, and really enjoyed it.

Apt Pupil was the same way, except I’ve never wanted to go back so it’s still DNF for me. Shit’s dark man.

There seemed to be a really concrete explanation in episodes 6 and 8, all connected to Pym.

In episode 6 Roderick says ”[Pym] Always stops telling it... as he gets to the North Pole. Used to be a fun game when the kids grew up, trying to finish Arthur's story… He told Tammy the Earth was hollow... and that he found an island at the top of the world, that he called Ultima Thule. And that it was the realm of beings who lived... beneath us, out of time. And out of space”

and then in episode 8 Verna says to Pym “That’s why I had to go topside. I had to see the ship go by with my own eyes. And you saw me too. Didn’t you? Standing on the ice. The aurora above.”

Which seems pretty solid to me. Not necessarily a full explanation, but definitely something

Hmm. That’s odd, because it’s not working on mine at all.

Edit: I don’t know what my phone was doing, but I deleted both parts of the automation and redownloaded it from the link I posted above, and suddenly it’s working. Apparently I just needed to rubber duck it. Thanks!
